To achieve this, I played a six-step sequence on the WaveState to play six chord changes, used a simple six-step pattern on the Drumbrute, and played three-note arpeggios on the Moog Matriarch. Inkys Birthday Jam #Bemoreinky Arpeggeric 2024-12-06 | This is my birthday tribute to @InkyDaCaT, who sadly left us in early August. Inky was the heart of the @HardwareJams community. She was a fan of us all, just as we were all fans of her. No matter what livestream I tuned into, she was always there, with a friendly shout of ERIC!!!!! when I joined the chat, then continued on with everybody in the stream about gear, jokes, and life in general.My first interaction with Inky occurred after my first Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge submission back in the Spring of 2021, where I submitted a multi-tracked, fully produced song. She kindly reached out to me explained the spirit of the weekend challenges is to record a jam (not a song) live, as if we were on stage, with no edits, overdubs, or do-overs. This challenged me to rethink my workflow to how to perform live with all of my gear, and I am a better player and arranger now thanks to her.Inky was also the facilitator of the annual Secret Santa Jams at Holiday time and was a major contributor to the annual Hardware Jam Festivals. She made time to check on every jammer, asking how we were doing, and offered a friendly voice if we were stuck in a creative rut and couldn't get momentum. During the leadup to Fest '22, I was having execution problems with my jam and was in jeopardy of resigning (I think the submission deadline had already passed). She told to me not to worry, and that she was in the same position. We then challenged eachother not to be the last submitter.Inky's favorite weekend challenges prompts were to create a jam completely from scratch, where nothing could be pre-arragned, including sequences, and your jam still had to fit within the traditional five-minute time limit.Her other favorite type of challenge prompts were dreamy jams, where she would narrate a long story with many plot twists and surprises, and we had to create a jam around that idea. Usually, the next weekend's jam would continue the saga with more plot twists and surprises, but always with the same purpose, that everyone in the story was delighted with the music we were making. I'm certain that also brought Inky delight as she got to listen to 30+ musicians interpretation of her story during the Monday night livestreams.I regret not having the opportunity to meet Inky in person. I have since made it a goal to try to meet other Hardware Jammers when my travels take me close by.We miss you Inky, the community is not the same without your humorous and witty banter.#bemoreinky
HWJ Challenge for 02-DEC-2024. No sounds are to be pre-sequenced.As this is the 55th anniversary week of the Apollo 11 Lunar mission, I decided to sample the launch audio and use it as inspiration. The sample is five minutes long. The Launch video footage was synced to the jam while making the video. Lost in the Maze - @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of July 12-14, 2024 Arpeggeric 2024-07-15 | This weekend's challenge was to make a jam about what it sounds like to navigate a maze? Confusion, disorientation and hopefully relief, maybe even elation as you find the way out...My jam starts off with the Moog DFAM creating the image of shuffling feet. Then the Roland SE-02 plays a chase sequence to quicken the pace. Throught the piece, different samples of confusion and helplessness call out. Eventually all instruments are sequenced in a wild, tense motif.

My jam instruments are the Moog Mother32, Moog Subharmonicon, and the Moog Matriarch (1st to 3rd audio cables), with the Mother32 providing gate to the Subharmonicon (4th cable), Aux send and return going to the Eventide Space (5th and 6th cables), and the MidiBeam wireless receiver connecting MIDI to the Matriarch (7th cable). The NuEVI has wireless MIDI.
Hardware Jams Challenge of 2024-02-09 Scattered! Arpeggeric 2024-02-11 | This week's jams was the third in a series of challenges centered around eating kabobs late at night after partying, stealing the kebobs from the restaurant, being chased by the police, and ending up in jail with cockroaches everywhere. My jam was inspired to scatter the cockroaches away, as I learn to play the Steiner NuEVI from Berglund Instruments. The NuEVI is triggering sounds from the Roland D-50.

I decided to create a three-jam medley of Technonsia's work in my own style. Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge for 17-DEC-2023 - Festive Arpeggeric 2023-12-18 | This weekend's challenge was to create something festive. My jams starts with the Roland D50 bell patch being sequenced by a Korg SQ-1 (out of frame). Next, the Moog Subharmonicon dances in with a para-rhythmic sequence, while the Korg Wavestate holds a long breath. New, the Roland SE-02 adds some low bass to finish the background tracks. Finally I add some piano to establish the melody.

Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge of 09-SEP-2023 - 909 Daze Arpeggeric 2023-09-10 | This weekend's challenge by @HardwareJams is to be inspired by the Roland 909 drum kit, maybe it’s the wonderfully iconic Ride cymbal, or the snare that has rolled more build ups than a retired builder. Or maybe it’s all about the Kick, the famous 909 Kick, Or that Snare with the ‘snappy’ adjustment. Or maybe you love the 909 hihats, closed or open. Whichever part or parts you love about the 909, take inspiration from the genres it helped sprout, the sounds themselves, or highlighting a specific part of the kit.My jam came out a little different than I first anticipated. I was first working on a 909-based dance beat with the MPC-One but when noodling around with the Matriarch, I came up with a Chord progression that sounded better slower. Hence the jam mellowed into a Daze. Irregular Bars - Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge of Aug 18, 2023 Arpeggeric 2023-08-21 | @HardwareJams challenged to use sections/sequences with an irregular number of bars before they either repeat or move on to the next section. I focused on drum and bass with the Drumbrute Impact and Roland SE-02 then harmonized with a droning sequence from the Moog Subharmonicon with and arpeggiator from the Moog Matriarch. A Piano from the Kong wavestate finshed the layering of the jam. On occasion, two measures of 5/8 are played before going back to the main motif.
Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge of July 7-9, 2023 - Tuning Arpeggeric 2023-07-10 | This weekends challenge by @HardwareJams was to add elements of tuning to the jam. The Moog Matriarch is a great candidate for this challenge since each oscillator can be tuned independently of each other. This adds some interesting and dramatic sweeps of tonal frequencies. I also used the Moog Subnarmonicon to sweep the tuning of the sub harmonics to add some interesting tones.I was also able to generate some stacked oscillators which was the theme of last weekend's challenge.
HWJ Weekend Challenge - Two Box Jam Arpeggeric 2023-06-17 | This challenge features the Roland/Studio Electronics SE-02 and Arturia Drumbrute Impact. I'm only using one 16-note sequence on the SE-02 but it's played forwards, backwards, and randomized. I have two patterns programmed on the Drumbrute but it has the appearance of a third pattern thanks to the randomization knob. I'm using the SE-02's built-in delay and the Eventide Timefactor to ad a little delay to the Drumbrute.

Blank Friday - @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of November 25, 2022 Arpeggeric 2023-04-07 | For this week's jam, I was noodling around with my recent addition of the Korg Wavestate, in particular the Iceland Piano Pad patch since I visited Iceland just four months ago. I layered a little bit of piano on the Roland FA-08 just to add some additional punctuation to the patch. The cascading arpeggio came to my fingers and I decided this would by my jam for the week. There has been trend in piano film scoring over the past 30 years where composers are using minimal piano washed in reverb.
