Rare as hell! Is it good then? You ask. Yes it is mellow songs acustic guitar and xylophone and some other cool instruments. The vinyl was problably made in less then 100 copies and released on the tiny Baba Cool System label. He lived in a hippie community and recorded the songs between 68-78 and then released this one. http://prognotfrog.blogspot.com.br/2008/04/denis-st-france-1978-acid-folk.html

"JIMMER GLYNN -- ex. rare, original late 1960's or early 1970's U.S. album. For Rock-Psych and Private Press fans, this is a frankly amazing and apparently completely-unknown LP credited to "Jimmer Glynn," who sounds like a solo artist but could be a group. Sound is gorgeous, melodic, post-psychedelic rock in the vein of Badfinger circa "No Matter What" and "Day After Day," Paul McCartney songs like "Come & Get It," early Todd Rundgren and Emitt Rhodes. All tracks appear to be originals except for a cover of The Beatles' "Yesterday" -- whoever Jimmer Glynn is/was, he definitely loved The Beatles and McCartney in particular. Songwriting, vocals and musicianship are all first-rate; a number of the song arrangements are quite complex, esp. for a private press LP that was released on an almost-unknown label, w/ no information on the front or back cover about the artist. Basically, if you're looking for a lost late 1960's Badfinger album, this is it. Back cover in fact is blank white without even song listings (!) Record is numbered "MO 1017," but whether this ever saw record stores is a good question: it may have been something of a private/vanity pressing, or a demo album -- the cover photo is a generic shot of a mountain lake and gives no indication of the irresistible treasures inside. There's no date listed on the cover or record, but sound and cover/label seem to indicate somewhere bet. 1969 - 1972. A really wonderful and completely obscure record that deserves to be rediscovered." http://www.popsike.com/JIMMER-GLYNN-Unknown-60s-ROCK-LP-BADFINGER-TODD-RUNDGREN-STYLE-HEAR-PRIVATE/160693631602.html
Rare Obscure JIMMER GLYNN Hippie Psych Folk
This is an original thick vinyl obscure U.S. Lp on red MOHAWK label #WD-1017, called: JIMMER GLYNN, it is a very nicely pressed produced and recorded hippie flower power folk psych lp. There are 10 tunes, ONE TO ONE / UNTIL TOMORROW / JERSEY HILLS / STORM IN THE NIGHT / YESTERDAY / etc. They do an excellent psychedelic version of this Beatles tune. Like the other tunes, it features terrific electric guitars, and very nice vocals. http://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/260875638506
album "Dreaming The Magic Of Your Maya" - LP2
"Dreaming the Magic of Your Maya was recorded in room number 22, at the Hotel Stella in Paris, over a three-month period in 1967. This was where Ziska and Loren were living at the time. It was a garret room on the top floor of the famous/infamous left bank hotel and room 22 was the best room in the place, overlooking the Jardin du Luxembourg, on Rue Monseieur-le-Prince. It was small, you couldn't fit more than fifteen people in it
The hotel was full of musicians and poets and performes and artists and various colorful people moving up and down in the bohemian world. Friends would drop by room 22 often and engage in spontaneous music making. Loren kept a Sony reel to reel at the ready and recorded all these sessions. Sometimes, when more people showed up than could fit in the room, they would break into groups and to to play music in the park. It was a time of intense experimentation and freedom, of pushing the boundaries. Meanwhile the student revolution of 1968 was fomenting. It was an exciting time to be in Paris...." from artwork http://prognotfrog.blogspot.com/2012/10/princess-flower-moon-rays-dreaming.html

Again credit to discobasso for his growingbinrecords store for the discovery of this VA album from Germany with utterly unknown artists, save the 'other' Alcatraz (not the famous vampire state bldg group), who did a record called "Music Made by Hands". When you listen to this record, ignore the first 2 reggae throwaway tracks, unless for some utterly unfathomable reason you have an excuse for liking reggae (here we can expect a comment below along the lines of, "hey! watch it! I like reggae!"), focus on track 3, a fusion band along the lines of germans psi, lindwurm, zebulon, etc., called "Cheapness Forever" which performs a beautiful grandiose instrumental starting with some wonderful dissonances on the horns and petering out to a very attractive e minor ending. Some popish and folkish numbers ensue, then after the pedestrian rock band "Railroad Track" punishes you at the start of side b, you will be shocked into quiescence by the band Melange and their Trettioariga-Kriget-like progressive hard rock. As I've said before, it's hard to do prog on a heavy metal basis, but these guys perform magnificently. Both tracks are superb compositions in the genre and it's utterly a tragedy this group did not make an album. Or did they? A quick search I did, complicated by the commonness of the band name, was fruitless, but I know there are folks out there who know far more than me about the subject (e.g. Sebastian probably). http://prognotfrog.blogspot.com.br/2012/09/va-unknown-titles-known-titles-germany.html

Here is a rarity ! Band name is Sidharta, track name is Perif '73. This record wouldn't be out of place in the Finders Keepers No No serie of reissues.
A nearly ungoogleable soundtrack single from a nearly ungoogleable 1973 movie named Scoop. Music is 5'55'' of pure heavy/Psych. I believe that Sidharta was a french band but the members were surely influenced by the German Kraut scene.
Any info about this band would be really appreciate !

album "Cosmic Rock" - very interesting private pressing of a four piece guitar driven hard rock band from I think Cedar Falls, Iowa. The style is a brilliant - and completely bizarre - mix of southern hard rock interspersed with an underlying progressive rock foundation. That might sound weird and it could signal a band in musical crisis but the results are truly captivating and ably assisted by a good professional sounding production. Sounds to me like these guys were caught between two stylistic chairs and unable to settle on one particular style. Indeed, the track 'Mask Of Reality' starts off as a typically late seventies prog rock epic but ends one of those long southern rock outros. Sounds like the album was tracked in 1975 despite the 1981 release date. Hot Fudge (HF006), USA, 1981 - http://www.popsike.com
Azurite are a perfect example of why blogging has become such an important resource for serious music aficionados and rarity seekers. Very little is known about this interesting act, though they did form somewhere along the west coast in the mid 70's. The album (of which there are only 500 copies) is believed to have been the band's only recorded output.
Musically speaking, Azurite take equal measures of AOR, hard rock and prog to create a sound that is distinctly their own. Somehow though, much of this record falls short on cohesive creativity leaving the listener with a handful of rather unremarkable songs highlighted by some fierce guitar and decent harmonies. If you enjoyed the self-titled LPs by Gran Max or Karroll Brothers, you might find more to love here than I do. Nonetheless, here it is (courtesy of Olias) in full digital glory! http://robotsforronnie.blogspot.com.br/2008/07/azurite-azurite-1979.html

Very rare and monstruous German heavy progressive psychedelic hardrock with some of the best guitar leads ever on a krautrock album ! This is a killer lp from the start to the end, one of the best !!! Has a more early to mid 70.s sound !
Dschinn Fizz were a hard-edged rock group with a typically German sound and dualing two lead guitars - the German Wishbone Ash, as people said. They self-produced their one and only album in 1981 in a very small limited edition.

"Rancid Poultry came out of the 1980s festival scene, but arrived with some influences out of the industrial movement. Had they stuck around another year or two, most likely they would've been on a label like Mystic Stones or Demi Monde. Good raucous space rock - with some interesting screamed vocals. They had other cassettes, but this is the only one I purchased back then. Comes with a nice booklet as well." http://cdreissuewishlist.blogspot.com/2010/05/rancid-poultry-england.html

As teenagers, Anders Nordh and Paul Sundlin had recorded an album with King George Discovery. In June 1970 they formed the trio Life with Thomas Rydberg. It's almost unbelievable that the group came up with such a mature first album; it's as if The Beatles had started with Abbey Road. It ranged from harsh heavy rock ("Many Years Ago" analogue to "I Want You") to pastoral art pop with jazz chords and sweeping strings ("Nobody Was There To Love Me"). The strength of the 14 tracks will be discovered afresh on repeated listening. In addition to the late-sixties style classy songwriting, Anders Nordh was a very talented guitar player who didn't attempt to imitate others. Both a Swedish and English version of the album were released, although the instrumental backing tracks are identical. http://sgm.paullee.ru/sgm-se.htm

Absolutely a lost piece of masterly australian jazz-rock like Quasar or First Light though perhaps not with the stunning originality of progressiveness of the aforementioned two, certainly not at the same stratospheric level of Alpha Omega. Note the odd ascription of 'australian composition' on 2 of the tracks, explicable by the fact this record was 'made possible' by a governmental grant. Love to know what Bruce thought of that. Most of the tracks are covers of different jazz compositions by Miles, Oliver Nelson, even Jaki Byard and the famous often-easy listeninged Pavane of Faure which really deserves its own star in the musical elevator hall of fame (along with certain Satie gymnopedies). Nothing comes close to Bill Evans + Claus Ogerman's orchestra for jazz renditions of this in my opinion. Having said that, Clarke's Pavane is very fusionally impressive, note at the 2:35 mark the shocking sound of a diesel-powered moog playing the melody behind the horns (-- oh those spacey moogs of the 70s, how they take me right back to those glorious halcyon days when interstellar ion warp drives and fusion reactors were going to take us to exoplanets in other galaxies within a few decades to boldly go where no child has gone before, finding our glorious and god-given future in other planets where perhaps a limitless supply of fossil fuels and edible large animals could be plundered with impunity... but the dreams all ended with the spacey moogs and we're left alone here on this planet that now only has the capacity for 75 percent of the current 7 X 10 to the ninth population along with Adele and Lady Gaga......)
A big standout for me is the solo guitar track Rain of Life written by pianist Byard (famed Mingus accompanist) which truly shows Bruce's skills. Note the wonderful decorative notes played by the brass halfway thru.
I hope here that these rare records can be preserved for posterity... although it may be that posterity won't care for them at all. They may be too occupied dealing with their twin disasters of climate change and resource depletion to worry about rare jazz and prog, but who knows? No one can know the future. Not only the probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics and the indeterminacy of chaos in the mathematical sense, but the social unpredictability of collective human action makes it all the more impossible for prediction (e.g. certain doom is averted through intelligent collaborative action). Who will win out, powerful companies and profit-maximizing with the selfish, apathetic or perhaps ignorant half of us, or the grassroots population that cares to keep a habitable planet for their children? At the moment it looks like 50-50 and most in the scientific community would agree.
I include the liner notes from the rear record sleeve --mostly for a feel for the seventies era:
"I have a real feeling of involvement with this album. It's because I've been close to this brainchild since its conception, during its gestation and now its accouchement. I suppose I feel like an obstetrician on hearing a newborn baby yell. Not that I've had a long wait to hear this one wail. As they became available, Bruce generously kept me supplied with tapes of these items from early mono mixes to stereo, which I've programmed often. But to those who may be listening to this music for the first time I say-- this is no facsimile of another group and its music-- here is originality!
This music is wonderfully imaginative and stylish, creative and joyous. The group is excitingly professional with its musicianship and deft exploitation of modern techniques and devices for playing and recording. Bruce Clarke is a very original man.
He's one of my men for all seasons and he's always been a champion of the now season. Which is why he digs his Harley Davidson 1200 cc superglide I suppose. He's always looked for new ways to express his music -- so he has a mark 3 moog and a vast assortment of amps gear and axes. He's been president of the International Society of Contemporary Music so he's our only professional electronic composer, thus the use of amps and pedals with this group. And it all stands on the Duke Ellington premise, if it sounds good, it's good! Amen to that.
Really what I've been saying is Stratusphunk is ... right on!"

Another installment in the big beautiful bottomless barrel of folk-rock of the seventies, this time from Frankfurt, Germany, mainly sung by a female singer, Margrit Stanzel. She and Dieter Stanzel perform vocals and the latter plays guitars, mandolin, as well as flute (or what sounds like a recorder actually) and percussions.
They are assisted by Roland Schwarzer on guitars, mandolin, harp, voice; Helmut Stichel on basses; Hans-Peter Lamb on keys and trumpet, and Gerhard Pomp on perc.
Note that many of the songs are traditional folk tunes (tracks 2-5 and 8-10), despite this I think they interpret them quite beautifully. There is a lot of variety in the arrangements -- for ex. track 8 (the namesake Wunderwald) is introduced with accordeon and electric guitar, then a piano gently arranges itself around the chords. Unusual for this style of folk.
I include as samples track 3, called "Mein Vater Wird Gesucht" i.e. my father is re-died again, song is about big mistake in reincarnation head office, he is reincarnated accidentally as a T Rex, then is brought back as David Hasselhoff the great singer to compensate. They made this into a sitcom in the eighties on german tv. They alternate scenes between father yelling at his teenage daughter and her boyfriend and T rex eating different stegosaurs. Track 8, Wunderwald, is about german theme park for children relating to beer set in a big brewery (e.g. kids have water park slides into lager, the roller coaster followed the pipes from one barrel of wheat beer and dunked the kids into another beer barrel, etc. It has since closed due to european union hygiene rules and standards relating to swimming in beer.) http://prognotfrog.blogspot.com.br/2012/06/wunderwald-1979.html

By mid 1984 frontman John Youdale had also bailed out, resulting in the recruitment of ex-TAMARISK guitarist Nick May who joined in early 1985. May had released a cassette album titled 'Counterbalance' in 1988. May later joined QUASAR, JADIS and THE ENID for their 'Sundialer' album. Nick May would be announced as joining the reformed KARNATAKA in mid 2005. http://www.musicmight.com/artist/united+kingdom/derbyshire/chesterfield/dagaband

in 1975 the hannover label PAUER released at least two seven-inch-extended-play-records (though the catalogue-numbers TCH 75 0 10 for boorturm and TCH 75 0 13 for getriebe are leading to an obvious deductive reason) with some mortifying if not fancyanating kraut. not krautrock by the way, though both bands are trying to be more rockateering than they really were.
first at hand is getriebe with their ep syncron: three pieces of mayhem kraut, two of them completely outperformed by the third, a lamento on losing a dog and a hymn on finding it again. great. they were detlev schmidtchen (guitar; later with eloy and even more famous with piefke & pafke und die jungs aus der dunkelkammer), olaf schröter (guitar), reza rené mertens (bass), rob perotti (drums), karl heinz sieling (organ) and claus jülich singing. here are their three steps to heaven: http://spurensicherung.blogspot.se/2012/06/and-kraut-again-getriebe-and-boorturm.html

"Not to be confused with another German Tortilla Flat (and some other band with the same name, American I think, or the Dutch hard-rock band Tortilla) this obscure 1970's German band from Aachen are highly praised and ridiculously obscure!
We first encountered them via (what were told was) a copy of their unreleased debut (only issued on cassette and sold at concerts) which dates from 1972. The recording is in fact a session recorded for SWF radio. This is an extraordinary slice of underground Krautrock. It's a mostly instrumental album (approximately 35 minutes of it), with a couple of tracks featuring very strange songs with almost unintelligible (to these ears) German lyrics. The rhythmic structures are vaguely Beefheart-like, delivered by two percussionists, with the lead instruments being flute and violin (the latter presumably by Werner Knauser). The style is highly original, with lots of unusual time signatures, vague classical references, counterpoints of folk and jazzy elements, and much in the way of abstract early Fripp-like guitar work. The only comparison I could give would be Rufus Zuphall, although that's only tentative! A superb and unknown album that deserves a proper release!
The official album FÜR EIN 3/4 STUNDCHEN (that's "For 3/4's Of An Hour" in English) opens with a new version of their eponymous "Tortilla Flat", this time given a more groove along feel, previewing a much more jazzy Canterbury inspired fusion style. Totally instrumental (excepting a short joke track in German) and featuring flute and guitar extensively, akin to Brainstorm and Circus (Mel Collins' Circus, that is), it's almost a classic.
This album seems to be destined to obscurity, however, as guitarist Manfred Herter, aka Manni Holländer who released a few pop albums in the 1980's, apparently refuses a reissue." Some more French material to complement pollux's posts before we move back to Germany. This lost record recalls Babel-era Cos (esp. the 5th track) with the crystal-clear female singing on top of some really tasty jazz licks with progressive touches. Isabelle Sobkowiak is the singer and she really goes all-out on the out-belted third track demonstrating some ground-fracking high notes in the first part. In the second part of the same song we get those sustained minor chord guitar arpeggios that are so proggy, cf. edition speciale, mahavishnu orchestra, whereupon the keyboardist gets a chance to shine (Jollivet).
The guitarist, Christian Berger, is the other real standout in his gorgeous playing. Phenomenal solos abound. I include the last instr. composition below to get a feel of the jazz vs. rock vs. progressive dosages that go into this potion.
I know some will think it's simple pop, some will think it's too jazzy, but someone out there (based on past comments) might well think it's their favourite record in the world. For me, it sure is beautiful music to my ears, and I will play it numerous times. And at least my wife will like it too! (Although this means I have to leave the headphones off, and listen to her talk about her day at work for a long long time.) I particularly love this singer's voice, she's got diamonds that glitter to make you blind in her vocal cords. http://prognotfrog.blogspot.com.br/2012/05/phileas-fogg-coma-depasse-1986.html

Hello friends! let we go to Canada this time. There waits us some obscure, quebecious prog folk album. A hidden treasure, quicky became one of my fav. some copy/paste:
Seamingly spiritually inspired, highly original and clear music. On first track some bizarre church organ, somewhat like a less heavy Jacula, with flute, drums, bass, some electronic, some collage. Further lots of Quebec folk prog. Sterling Koch is a nationally recognized lap steel guitarist who is a touring/recording solo artist and session musician. Sterling specializes in playing Chicago-style, slide guitar blues in a contemporary style on the lap steel guitar. He has recorded 4 solo albums of steel guitar music including "Steel Guitar Blues", "Steelin' Home" and "How I Spent My Summer Vacation." with the most recent release being "Slide Ruler."
The "Slide Ruler" album features legendary blues bassist Tommy Shannon (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter) and Grammy nominated drummer Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers). The album includes 12 tracks covering blues legends as diverse as Elmore James, John Lee Hooker and Otis Rush and features a cover of Santo & Johnny's steel guitar standard "Sleepwalk." The album has received stellar reviews from such noted blues magazines as Blues Matters, Blues Blast Magazine and Blues In Britain magazine as well as airplay throughout the US, Canada, UK and Europe. The single, "If You Wanna Rock & Roll" written by Dion Demucci, was featured on the nationally syndicated radio program, "Blues Deluxe."
Sterling has appeared as opening act for Savoy Brown, Rick Derringer and Blackfoot among many other major touring bands and just opened the 3 day, nationally recognized Pennsylvania Blues Festival 2011. He has also performed at many nationally known venues including The Bitter End, Kenny's Castaways and Cornelia Street Cafe (all in New York City) as well as Stanhope House and Bubba Mac's Blues Shack (both in New Jersey) and at Daytona Bike Week 2005.
Sterling has had the support of the legendary steel guitarist Calvin Cooke (mentor to Robert Randolph of "Robert Randolph's Family Band") when first starting on steel guitar and now can claim internationally known steel guitarists Darick Campbell (The Campbell Brothers), Aubrey Ghent and Freddie Roulette as friends and mentors. http://sterlingkoch.com/bio.html
This album was recorded in England with metal-meister/producer Darryl Johnston. The album has an obvious Hendrix influence to it and I think is the early germination of the V.I.H. band. The album featured a very talented bassist from Hazleton named Mike Dutz. Mike really helped to keep everything together. This was an album by a band that wasn't really ready to record combined with a producer that wasn't right for the project. http://sterlingkoch.com/discography.html

album: Manin No Ki
Former member of Japanese folk band Itsutsu No Akai Fuusen (5 Red Balloons), this was Takashi Nishioka's first solo album from 1973, some lovely tunes with psychedelic touches and a couple of minimal home recordings.
Review from Othermusic.com:
Takashi Nishioka's Manin No Ki is surely one of the finest psych-folk singer-songwriter albums I've heard; if it weren't for the fact that it's sung in Japanese it'd probably already be in your collection. Nishioka has had a long and artistically successful and varied career of enough stature that he's been afforded a five-CD box set in Japan. He first came to public attention in the '60s as a member of Five Red Balloons, a group whose music was indebted in great part to the folk revival taking place in America at the time. Where his career really begins to interest us, however, is around 1970, when he was the nominal leader and songwriter of Tokedashita Garasubako (Melting Glass Box), whose members included notable musicians from Apryl Fool and the Jacks. They made one extraordinary and essential album of dreamy and avant-garde psych-folk that stands on par with any thing else of the era. Unfortunately, that CD is long out of print and vinyl copies sell for exorbitant amounts of money, but they do have a fine song included on the Japanese installment of the Love, Peace and Poetry series. After Tokedashita Garasubako dissolved, Nishioka began work on his first solo LP for URC (Underground Record Club), a label that had been started to document the intriguing folk and pop music that was being made in Japan's early-'70s counter-culture, a good portion of their catalog has been reissued and is well worth tracking down. Manin No Ki is far less amorphous than Tokedashita Garasubako, it begins on a foreign sounding note with a short ditty laden with ethnic string instruments and rattling wood blocks. It's probably the weirdest piece on the album and it barely hints at the songwriting to follow.
Nishioka is a master of the lilting melody and he specializes in those mid-tempo ballads that characterize many of Neil Young's greatest moments. Not that Nishioka just sounds like a Japanese Neil Young, far from it. His writing includes space for complex vocal overdubs and he uses a diverse array of instrumental shading, including marimba and xylophone sounds that would make Tom Waits jealous, and whoever engineered his drums is a complete genius. But now I'm starting to come across like a real nerd, because truly the main strength of the album is simply Nishioka's moving songwriting, that the sounds surrounding his songs are interesting only adds to the appeal. Manin No Ki is the album I've listened to the most this year by far and it won't fail to make it to my top ten. [MK] http://lost-in-tyme.ucoz.com/blog/2007-06-14-382

"I was introduced to Wolfgang Dauner in the 1980s, via the "Output" release, which was too experimental for me then - and still is. During my personal ebay era (roughly 1999-2006) I picked up the other albums listed here, and are far more preferable to my ears.
His period of experimenting with out jazz and even further out rock. Highly successful too. "Rischkas Soul" is the most traditionally Krautrock of the bunch. Since MPS has picked up again (or HGBS), I would suspect the Live album to come out soon. I'm hoping Long Hair takes on "Rischkas' Soul".
A few of the Dauner albums from this period have made it to CD: Et Cetera's debut (on Long Hair), The Oimels (Long Hair), Kunstkopfindianer (MPS), Knirsch (HGBS)." http://cdreissuewishlist.blogspot.com.br/2009/05/wolfgang-dauner-et-cetera-germany.html

album: The Idiogen
IDIOGEN started as an idea & pre-high-school-band at the beginning of the 80's in the often peculiar mindframe of founder & leader Andrea F (Flego), who thought up a semi-psychedelic rock power trio, not shy of wailing wah-wah guitar solos, feedback laced sound & blues fuelled riffing, often spoken (instead of sung) vocals, combining the onset & rise of what was to become the indie & garage scene, the lyrical insight of living behind the iron curtain with your head out in the world, and the legacy of an unabashed love for Jimi Hendrix.
From 1982 on the band actually came into existance, rehearsing like maniacs, going through the inevitable toothing phase & line-up problems, recording a now long lost casette-only quasi-album for DID Koper in 1984, playing concerts in what back then was Yugoslavia and in 1985 recording a proper 33rpm vinyl debut album, self-titled, released in 1986 for cult label Slovenija Records (Yugoslavia's first true indie label, masterminded by eccentric mogul & patron Boris Furlan "Primitivc").
After "Idiogen", in 1987 "Burning", a 4 song mini LP by popular demand in Italy, followed for Toast Records of Torino, and finally their (possibly) masterpiece, the ambitious "Drive You Mad" album, in 1988.
All releases, now collector's items, were distributed not only all over former Yugoslavia but also in Italy, the UK and the US, collaborating with cult labels such as Rough Trade Records of London, or Supporti Fonografici of Milan.
The band was extensively & mostly enthusiastically reviewed by national (Rock, Dzuboks, Mladina, Stop, Antena) and even international mags, raging from major publications to now classic, semi-obscure zines (Spin, Melody Maker, New Musical Express, Rock'n'Roll Confidential, Rockstar, Rockerilla, Mucchio Selvaggio, Buscadero, Urlo, Buzz, etc).
They played all over Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, and then, divided by Yugoslav army incombences, excessive friendship & good times (!!!) and the inevitable "musical diversities", in the best rock&roll tradition broke up at the height of their powers at the dawn of 1990. facebook.com/pages/IDIOGEN/36851036034?sk=info - http://www.myspace.com/idiogen

A truly superb album! This unique "Breton made in Germany" album is a real gem! Little known due to it's small distribution being on a private label. A mix of tradional and original compositions sung in Breton and French the music combines successfully traditional and modern instruments to create at times a haunting atmosphere. The group, Justin Thyme was conceived and organized by Gary Washburn.Gary Washburn grew up and attended public school in Skiatook, Oklahoma where he was very active in music, taking piano lessons and playing in the school band. However, his original career goal was to be in Veterinary Medicine.
But, along the way his brother, Kent, got involved in a dance band called The Shadow Lake Eight. Gary was very enthusiastic about what his brother was doing, and practiced and learned the piano parts for that performing group. He was sitting in, and subbing as piano player in the group before he was even old enough to drive a car!
By his Junior year in High School, he had become the main piano player for the Shadow Lake Eight, and performed regularly with them throughout his Junior and Senior year in High School, plus went with them each summer of 1963 and 1964 to play at Rockaway Beach Resort in southern Missouri. So by the time he graduated from high school in 1964, he was a seasoned veteran of the group.
Gary attended Oklahoma State University, majoring in Music. He graduated from OSU in 1968 and left Oklahoma to attend the University of Hawaii where he pursued his Masters degree in Music. The school year of 1971-72 found Gary at the University of Boston, where he began his work on his Doctorate Degree in Music.
After returning to Hawaii, Gary was awarded a Hawaii State Foundation of the Arts Grant to perform and record "A Life In A Day" with Justin Thyme, which he promptly did, then headed off to St Louis, MO where his brother was running his own independent production company (Kent Washburn Productions), producing acts for RCA and Warner Brothers.
Gary wrote and arranged for his brother there in St Louis, then accompanied him to Hollywood, where Kent had landed an exclusive production deal with Motown Records.
Gary's successes in Hollywood were numerous, and he was making a living in the Entertainment business. He arranged many of the things on a group called Hi Inergy, a new group that his brother was producing for Motown. In addition to his arranging credits, Gary also wrote the song Searchin', (I Got To Find My Love) that ended up on the first album of Hi Inergy, which ultimately went Gold.
Even though his success was evident during his time in Hollywood, Gary really did not like the "Entertainment biz scene", and much to the chagrin of his brother, packed up his stuff and moved back to Hawaii for the last and final time.
Gary spent 1977 again teaching at the University of Hawaii-Hilo, then took the high school music position offered him in the town of Honokaa, HI. However, this time around at the high school level, he made it clear up front that he was not going to teach the traditional way, and the school board incredibly gave him that freedom. Over the years, his unique concept of teaching High School music built a reputation for him as one of the best music educators in the business. more... http://www.milanrecords.com/artists/artists.php?artist_name=JUSTIN_THYME
