Lake Michigan Waterspouts 18 August 2012 Eric Treece 2012-08-24 | On the morning of 18 August, 2012 we left Burns Harbor, IN just at sunrise and headed northbound with a destination of Cedarville, MI. At approx 1000 we sailed near a boundary that dropped numerous waterspouts and even more funnels. There were several spouts down at one time, including 5 at one time. The first 2 sequences are time lapse of the storms building. The next sequence is one of many large gustnado that form on the outflow from the storm near Lawrence. The last 2 sequences are a tornado warned storm near Byron, NE with video of an RFD cut into out of the meso and strong RFD winds taking down a telephone pole.

SW Gale warnings were predicted for a number of days, however the winds we encountered gusted as high as 108 MPH! Seas were easily 12-16' on Green Bay and are seen here crashing over the deck of the ship. SS Wilfred Sykes Heavy Seas - November 5, 2010.mpg Eric Treece 2010-11-07 | S.S. Wilfred Sykes turning around in heavy seas due to gale force winds on the southern end of Lake Michigan on November 5, 2010. The night time turn is more dramatic than anything else as you can hear the chart room systematically being slid around with the rolling of the ship. There is 1 "F" bomb in the video right when a very large wave (larger than most of the other waves we were experiencing that night) came into view and we began to ride it out. Very interesting night to say the least. Came thru it in flying colors. Some crew lost tv's and some other minor stuff. The 2nd part occurred when we turned around off of Milwaukee later that day to head back to Indiana Harbor, IN. There were still some decent swells and the stern of the vessel meeting them created quite the ricochete of the waves bouncing off the stern as the vessel swung 180 degrees.
