Heretic is a coaster created by Kyle Sloane. This project takes inspiration from Speed Monster, an Intamin Rocket coaster found in TusenFryd, Norway. Heretic is full of detailed and exciting trackwork, delivered through a quaint village settled in a beautifully-crafted environment.
The first half of this video sets up an amateur recording style with loads of handheld takes shot on foot in the simulator. Hasty edits, zooms, crops, etc. litter the first half in a vibe-driven movement meant to capture the look and feel of the ride.
The second half goes a different direction by capturing the detail. The scenery, animations, trackwork, trees, grass, and light are all unfiltered and cut clean. In the moving shots, scripted cameras and targets were experimented with to provide some really interesting transitions and movements.
Unfortunately I was not able to completely take advantage of a fully automated fly-through track system, as the train-attached target object was glitchy and did not provide smooth footage. As a result, I had to mix handhelds with WASD-targets to try and recreate what I had envisioned.

When I had caught word that Mike Sheets was to do a video using Stress as the soundtrack, well, I had to do something about it. This is one of my favorite songs and I really wanted to edit to it some day. Scourge provided the perfect opportunity to craft the videography visions I had intended.
My biggest ambition of all, however, did not work out. In the middle section, I had used Arma 3 Render Worlds to record first-person swat team footage in green screen. This was to be an overlay overtop matching NoLimits 2 walking scenes. The logistics were tough, the movements were hard to match when there was more than 1 person in the scene, and the view bobbing caused tearing on both ends. Fortunately CG246 wasn't keen on the whole swat team thing anyway. Regardless, it would have been pretty amazing to destroy the boundaries with footage from two games working in tandem, and it's unfortunate that it didn't really work out.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this halloween release. This channel has been rather silent. I would like to return to NoLimits but time forbids it. Maybe when Marathon is finished. :) ... :(WKSCCA: Event 1, 2016AJClarke09122016-05-19 | Beacon Dragway, KY

I already did separate videos for Air and Heretic, so I decided to leave theirs out for this one.
The music is Oliver's "Fast Forward". The cool tight beats allowed me to make some really crafty cuts and play with the rhythm a bit. To capture the spirit of Air, I needed to stay clean and keep things graceful and elegant. Many included close calls with grass and trees, highlighting that close to ground ride Air provides. Unfortunately, doing custom camera work over and over takes an eternity, so the handhelds make another return. I hope you liked them though, they're great fun!
Thanks go out to Dave for letting me take the spotlight on this one. He certainly has the skills to put together a film himself, but was kind enough to let me give this one a go. While it took longer than anticipated, I'm definitely satisfied with the results.

I really wish I could slow down the depth focus effect, but unfortunately I'll have to stick with the quick focal points. Panning target views provide other exhilarating angles that would have normally been impossible to set up. "Centurion" unfortunately is a read-only package, so I was not able to fulfill some ideas I had with camera tracks and decided to instead work on some things I can do without them.
Unfortunately I'm still bounded by 720p on a laptop running an integrated graphics card. It drags along horribly while I record and render, yet somehow my computer manages to pull through. One day I will hope to get a good desktop, but I can't foresee that happening until after I graduate. Instead I'm having to make do with what I have, and for that, I hope you enjoy it.

Many old attempts were made at tall tower-based Arrow-tracked (but not styled) looping compacts that were to be situated on a fake mountain like Matterhorn. However, those tracks were back in the days of "3 years ago" and were Newton trash. I got inspired to try again with fresh knowledge and my favorite challenge of taking FVD's to stupid tight spaces. It's certainly a challenge to even put the track where you want it when you're playing with hundredths of a roll degrees and forces 90% of the time at low speed in compact scenarios.
The idea for this ride is a combination this and K'nex ball tower sets. I had something like those when I was a kid (but less expensive) and I was intrigued at how the ball moved smoothly across sets of freeform-shaped track. The pacing was always very abrupt with the low momentum of the marbles, but when it picked up speed it flied down big hills and simply glided across long stretches of smooth track effortlessly. This coaster was created to almost replicate the feeling of being in a giant ball tower - only this time, with coaster cars.
Ivory Tower's track is heavily banked (because heavy banks were necessary in marble runs), so Newton was very appropriate. The trains are short and of low heartline (3 corkscrew cars), giving a rail-hugging feel and rapid pace & speed changes. The track is corkscrew style also to reflect the railings of marble runs that keep the vehicle pinned inside. The supports are complex, semi-artistic, a tad random, and necessary because of the confusing mess below similar to any ball tower structure. The airtime does not go below floater so that the cars feel like they are on the edge of "flying off" the track as if they were not secured to the rails.
I think when you notice these parallels, you'll find Ivory Tower highly entertaining to not only ride but watch from afar. It has this "whimsical machine" feel to it that I didn't expect it to have and I've grown surprisingly fond of it. While the technical detail of trackwork may not be a strong suit (I'm not a master builder), I think people will have a lot of fun with it.
Pretty much zero video effects were used because I wanted to get back to the clean and simple styles I had long before. It's a bit different, but I hope you enjoy it just as much! _
Thanks Brett Jones for getting me started on the support structure! Complete environment credit goes to WingOver and his Omega environment, skybox, and trees. _

Despite it only being 2 minutes long, it took a full 2 1/2 hours to render. :( Color-grading is SLOW to render. I can't imagine what a full-length video will be like!
After doing some plugin searching for Vegas a couple days back, I found some powerful tools that I'd started using. Magic Bullet Looks was the first, and I used it for every scene with a fairly customized version for each camera shot. It basically lets you really get in-depth with the color editing, filters, vignettes, and more. If you saw the Omega Experiment #2 video, I was trying to do this effect with Vegas' default plugins. It looked good, but wow does THIS look good.
On top of that I got NewBlue FX which allows for a lot of random stuff I can put in. One of them was camera movement, so I added lots of subtle camera moves to the still shots. Afterward, I put in some custom blurs in the middle of them to look like the camera was defocusing a bit. I probably made the defocus too strong, but oh well - I couldn't tell in the Vegas preview window that easily.
Anyway, I've finally gotten just about where I've wanted to be for making NL1 look like NL2. Combined with LeFlo's *fantastic* GCI ride and his attention to detail, I think I was able to make this happen!
The supports based off of Iron Wolf, but due to the compactness of the contest they ended up really Schwarzkopf-y. In a not so aesthetic way. Regardless, I somehow got it to work in the end of it all.
Overall I wish I had more space to execute true stand-up transitions. Because the template was so tight, certain things came out very non-stand-up like such as the s-curves under the layout just before the corkscrew. Just about everything was tighter and less inspired than it needed to be. Stand-ups normally need lots of space for their transitions, but this contest was not the case. The 4 inversions really hampered things too, as you can tell with the shoved in heartline roll. Did the best I could.
I also made the coaster about Iron Wolf height which, with a 4 inversion minimum, made things get really shitty really fast. Finished the supports the day of. _
Oh yeah - the music: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Go Daddy-OIl Pitone by AJClarke0912 (Video Experiment #3) (NoLimits 1)AJClarke09122013-02-17 | Yeah it's another one of those videos. I personally think the shots in the last half of the film (the shots in JetPulse's environment) are fantastic, and I really worked hard on those. I wish I could have fleshed out on the tilt-shift a little more but it's a work in progress - and I love the miniaturized shots anyway. Looks like a model. Those were originally going to be in that Strong Minded environment too but the fog made it to where you couldn't see what was happening at that distance.
Sorry about the repeating clips, but if you watch they differ in various ways. Just different recording techniques in the sim with my mouse movement, as well as different smoothing techniques.
If you sat through the whole thing you get a gold star. ------------------------------------ Music: 1) Daft Punk - Crescendolls (Laidback Luke remix) 2) Deadmau5 - Cyclic Redundancy 3) Stellardrone - EternityTour De France (NoLimits 1)AJClarke09122012-12-17 | Being inspired by the song featured in the video (and GerstlCrazy's "Grasshopper"), I decided it would be cool to make a little hyper coaster with vibrant colors, an out-and-back layout, and a bright blue sky.
At the bottom of the first hill and 5th hill is a big creek with water brake section. A few notes on the water brake: I pictured it featuring a mix of Shambhala (fake water jets) and Diamondback (scoops) - where the jets squirt water up and scoops on the train kick THAT water up (and not the actual body of water). That way, the train wouldn't lose much speed, but would still "interact" and not just be a whole pseudo mock-up water scene.
I still pictured it losing some speed for interacting with the thick jets, so I accounted for some very minor speed loss on the actual track. The jets on this coaster are represented by the blue footers with 1-size supports prodding up from them. Theoretically - as the train rolls over - it would sort of "atomize" the water coming from the jets and create lots of spray and mist. I think it would be cool. Idk how that relates to bike racing though, lol!
I also missed the fact that the support flanges don't meet where the supports change colors... just cover your eyes for those parts. :POmega by WingOver (Video Experiment #2) (NoLimits 1)AJClarke09122012-10-15 | DISCLAIMER: This is not my ride; I was making a video for a pre-existing ride by WingOver. If you wish to download the ride click on the link below... http://coastercrazy.com/track_exchange/detail/18482 ...now onto the description.
I've been making tracks here and there. They all go on UNTIL some point: be it supporting, 3Ds, lack of interest, etc. Then they all die. My video-making self says I should make another video, but I have no rides to make videos of. So I decided I would take someone else's just like Mission Discovery and start hacking away at trying new techniques. I feel like I've refined a lot now. I've edited the colors to give a warm feel, tried out some minor lens flare stuff (may get more involved in the future), further improved on UCFC (Underground-Controlled Flying Camera), and I've got some other awesome new camera techniques that I've been working on. The combination is camerawork that is smooth until the train passes by, giving the ride a sense of power as it moves past. I always felt NL (and it's videos even) felt very static when the train moved close by the camera, so this time I livened things up a bit.
UCFC takes forever, so I only have two of those shots in. It just takes so damn long to design in Newton, set up properly, fixate the camera, time the train to move on the block at the right layout spot (using the block system with a train in manual mode in the station), etc. So there isn't much of that. The rest is just color testing, stabilizing, blur effects, and a bit of fun mixed in.
Below is the link to the quick experimental deadmau5 track that he uploaded for free downloading. Just press "Download" on the top left of the player. A free song is a free song!
I had this Vegas file on my computer that wasn't finished. I decided I probably wouldn't finish it - it was just a random coaster video "long trailer" where I was testing out some different cameras and effects. Most of the "effects" you see are pretty custom-made. Lens focus was custom (although not perfect) using keyframes and blur sliders, etc.
I had also started experimenting with camera pan tracks. It was really hard to time my camera rig to follow the train in such a way that you see later in the video. Using Newton, I created many segments of track with precise banking and movements for the camerawork. I then tried to get it to match up with the train with different LIM sections to speed up and slow down the camera accordingly. Later on, though, it didn't follow the train so closely. Could have fixed it, but again I wasn't planning on finishing this - I thought "hey that kinda worked" and called it a day after 20 minutes of tweaking. I plan on using this in the future for whatever videos I make from now on.
Environment credits go to djd771 for the sunset hazy-style environment near the beginning, and JetPulse (creator of the ride) for his Strong Minded, bright-colored environment shown during the lens focus test.Tumbleweed Caverns - by cb0688 (NoLimits 1)AJClarke09122012-04-25 | NOT MY RIDE. Ii'm thinking of starting a "Coaster of the Month" series, and maybe a NoLimits-Exchange channel of some kind. But for now, it's on my channel.
The ride itself is simple, so I kept the editing simple. No wicked effects and what not.
I wanted a ride that was very compact, and looked kinda cheapish and sketchy. Yet, it would be very fun and would have ridiculous clearances that would only be possible with an insane death trap car similar to a Geopanic + Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain or something of the like. One that was also highly inconvenient, with it's stupid cages and 3-across/2-row/1-car seating which enhances the cheap carnival ride feel.
Euro-Fighter cars were closest to the idea, so I used those. So you'll have to pretend (I know it's hard) that it's 3-across with ridiculous cages on top.
Anyway, this was a side project. I was messing around and I liked the first drop/loop/turnaround combo so I kept going. I made 3Ds for it (my first!), which explains some missing footers since they attach to the ground below. It's only in the trenches though.
Big thanks to L Bosch for his object sets! The catwalks, ladder, and sensors are in his credit. If there is something I left out, look at the object. I just wanted to try it out and I got this bobsled-esque coaster. It's based off of the Super-G ski races where skiers careen around powerful carving turns and fly over hill-tops. It's G's are high, but in check all the way through. The unique 1.2-G downward launch start simulates the starting gate of a ski racer. Also, since this coaster is an all downhill coaster, the unique 106 mph launch underground sends a shuttle back up to the top while the other train is going down the slope. If this was built at the Vail Back Bowls (location of ride if built), the guests then would ride the chairlift back up to board the incoming shuttle. Anyway, have fun on Super-G!

It actually turned out quite nicely. There are some building technique issues due to time constraints. The reason for it's quite standard layout, well, with sketching it's not like designing a coaster in a 3D space. jpaufsc could pretty much only draw back and forth. Hence the reason why it is mainly a standard back-and-forth looper.

It's a custom Pinfari, one of the only custom coasters ever made by the company. It's incredibly compact, featuring a 30 ft and a 20 ft tall loop. Standing at about 45 ft tall, this coaster is definitly not large.

*NOTES: The are car hits due to the fact that the cars are not Pinfari cars, which have big gaps between them. I could not fix this. Also, the previous video had crap quality, so this is the re-uploaded video. Enjoy anyway!
