My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.
Links are affiliate links where they can be - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
Patron Producer: I totally spaced filming one while I was in Sierra Leone, originally I was only going to grab clips to use in a later video and didn't realize I had a full vlog in me until I was there. But if you are a Patron of mine, thank you so much. This journey would never have looked the same without your support!

As you know, I don't have a ton of offerings in the 17th, but each year I discover something else amazing (like this park) to add to the list. And that's what's so great about the new and improved online version of my guide - as soon as I know more, so will you. No more waiting for each new release. Updates in real time, how cool is that? After missing out on filming here during my 12th arrondissement video, I thought I'd come back and try again. I will always come back and try again, to make sure you have the best, up to date information on Paris. And this is what's so great about my guide finally being online - I can update it in real time! If I find a new wine bar that I love on a Thursday night, you bet it'll be in the guide by Friday. If a café I recommend shuts down, I'll take it out as soon as I've heard, so that you don't waste any of your precious steps looking for somewhere that no longer exists. Check it out at parisinmypocket.com.

That's right - due to some pretty awful accidents, lack of respect of others on the road, multiple people piling onto one scooter (among other issues) the city of Paris has decided it's safer to get these bad boys off the streets. You'll still find the associated bikes available, but no more scooters.
However, you're still allowed to privately own one, and if you're looking to scoot around the city, Bad Ass Tours has you covered. Mark knows Paris like the back of his hand, and he'll get you around safely and have you laughing the whole time.

On Friday I dropped my 20 in 20: Take Two, The 4th Arrondissement. I've been releasing this series slowly over the past 16 weeks and it's been a ride. The 4th is a central, gorgeous, and bustling area of Paris.

If you find yourself hanging out in the lower 19th or upper 20th arrondissements, or are looking for somewhere to go after your gorgeous morning jog through Buttes Chaumont, Mardi has you covered. Mardi is light, it's airy, they have cinnamon rolls, amazing coffee, and a café dog. What's not to love?
This area of town is almost a coffee desert - in fact, there are still parts of Paris where it's exceptionally hard to find a good filter or a banging flat white. But don't worry - I've got you covered with my guide to Paris. Or, for totally free recommendations, subscribe!

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over five years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: youtu.be/-MrvL37jTKM
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: http://bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: youtu.be/4Vivf6MqMxQ
Do you speak French? - Oui. youtu.be/va1QjaHgij8
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: http://patreon.com/jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
Thanks for watching!

Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.

The 11th arrondissement of Paris is loaded with amazing food, craft beer, specialty coffee, natural wine, and so much more. There aren't tons of famous monuments or huge parks, but you go to the 11e to eat in fantastic restaurants.

The 12th arrondissement of Paris is underrated, in my opinion. For the Coulee Verte alone, it's worth a visit. Grab dinner in Gare de Lyon, drinks with boxer bros, or take a long stroll along the basin at Arsenal if you're craving some boats on the water. It's not a bad place to end up.

Technical correction - Canal de l'Ourcq starts just north of where we were, Bassin de la Villette continues up into where we were boating. Definitely check out the canal while you're in Paris, especially on a sunny day, and enjoy the 19th arrondissement!
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.
