"An interesting night on I-4 led to the recovery of about 4 kilograms of MDMA and other drugs.
Deputies were called to the side of westbound I-4 (107 mile marker) Friday night for a disabled vehicle. It was reported the passenger (Carey Thomas Crownover, 30, DeLand) was inside kicking the windshield and more.
When Deputy Graham made contact, Crownover kicked him and began struggling as the deputy worked to take him into custody safely, which was ultimately successful.
In the vehicle, deputies found 1,426 grams MDMA, 1,016 grams amphetamine, 4 grams ketamine along with cannabis.
During a follow-up search warrant at Crownover's home in DeLand, detectives recovered more trafficking amounts of drugs, including: 2,516 grams MDMA, 363 grams cocaine, 1,000 grams psilocybin, 510 grams amphetamine, along with alprazolam, 2C, LSD, and cannabis.
Detectives also seized 11 firearms, one of which was reported stolen in Lake County.
Crownover was charged with armed trafficking in MDMA, amphetamines, and cocaine, possession of psilocybin, LSD and cannabis with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Crownover's father, Carey David Crownover, who also lives at the same residence, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Additional charges are possible pending further investigation. Great job by patrol, VBI, the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force and the Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team on this case!"

"On 9/2/2024 at 3:56 PM, police responded to a call of a man who had fired a shot at another person. When officers arrived, the suspect, Mario Cruz, refused officers’ commands to come out. Instead, he chose to barricade himself inside the residence.
He later broke through an attic wall and fired shots at officers. Mr. Cruz eventually jumped to the ground from the hole in the attic wall, moved to the rear of the residence where he confronted officers with a pistol. He was subsequently shot by a member of the OKCPD Tactical Unit.
Mr. Cruz was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he remains at the time of this posting. There were no other injuries reported.
Sgt. Hernandez has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation."

"New Yorkers took to the streets in protest this week as the NYPD released body camera footage of a police shooting involving a subway fare-evader armed with a knife that drew heavy public criticism.
Four people, including a police officer and the fare-evader, were shot in the September 15 incident that started when a man jumped the subway turnstile – evading the $2.90 fare – in front of two transit patrol officers standing guard at the Brooklyn subway entry point. Police say Derrell Mickles, 37, was carrying a knife and was asked to leave.
After Mickles exited through the turnstile and re-entered the station through the emergency gate, police say the two officers chased Mickles onto the subway platform. They then confronted him and repeatedly ordered him to drop his knife, but Mickles refused to comply, police say.
In bodycam and surveillance video of the incident edited and released by the NYPD Friday, a man, identified by police as Mickles, is seen entering a subway train car that pulls into the station during the confrontation in an apparent attempt to evade police.
After a brief pursuit along the subway platform, Mickles finds himself cornered, flanked by two officers. He charges, then abruptly halts, and then video shows the officers discharging their weapons multiple times in his direction, causing Mickles to collapse into the subway car.
Police say officers only fired their weapons after Mickles charged at them.
“Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by asking the suspect to drop the knife over 30 times and deployed tasers three times, all without success,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said in a post on social media.
Two bystanders and an officer were also struck by gunfire in the incident, according to police, who said one of those bystanders was hit by a stray bullet in the head and was still in critical condition as of Friday, the New York Times reported.
Mickles was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, among other charges. He was arraigned Friday from his hospital bed in Kings County, according to CNN affiliate WABC, and pleaded not guilty.
CNN has reached out to an attorney representing Mickles for comment.
“This incident was not about fare evasion,” NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell emphasized to reporters at a news conference Wednesday. “This incident was about a person in mental stress armed with a deadly weapon and protecting our cops and citizens on that train.”
Public advocates and some New York City residents protesting the police’s use of force disagree.
New York City public advocacy group Legal Aid Society said the surveillance and body-worn camera footage fails “to capture the entire NYPD melee” and it “completely contradicts the Department’s claim that (Derrell) Mickles ‘charged’ at one of the officers.”
“As the video clearly shows, Mr. Mickles was standing still when NYPD personnel unloaded their firearms at him,” the statement from Legal Aid Society reads."

"ROGERS, Ark. – Arkansas State Police released a Trooper’s dash camera footage today from a July 27th traffic stop that ended in an officer-involved shooting. Angel Zapet-Alvarado, 26, of Guatemala had a blood-alcohol level of twice the legal limit when he resisted arrest and assaulted the Trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 49.
Benton County Prosecutor Joshua Robinson announced today that Trooper Alexandria Duncan’s use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law. ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division presented an investigative case file to the prosecuting attorney on August 9, 2024.
At approximately 7:43 p.m., Trooper Duncan attempted to stop Zapet-Alvarado on I-49 southbound after he passed her marked patrol unit traveling 114 miles an hour in heavy traffic near the 83-mile marker. Zapet-Alvarado initially showed no signs of stopping, even after Trooper Duncan activated her emergency lights and sirens. After stopping his vehicle on the right shoulder, Trooper Duncan instructed Zapet-Alvarado to exit the vehicle. Trooper Duncan observed Zapet-Alvarado with his hand on the gearshift and stopped him from driving away in the vehicle by taking his keys. He ignored commands to exit the vehicle and resisted Trooper Duncan’s efforts to remove him. She deployed her taser when he refused to comply. Zapet-Alvarado wrestled the Trooper’s taser from her hands and threw it into interstate traffic. During the incident, Zapet-Alvarado kicked Trooper Duncan’s head multiple times.
Kylie Sutton, 31, of Rogers witnessed the altercation and tried to assist Trooper Duncan. The Trooper used her service weapon to fire one round at Zapet-Alvarado, wounding him in the right temple. He continued to resist arrest and refused Trooper Duncan’s instructions to get on the ground.
Col. Mike Hagar said, “I wholeheartedly support Trooper Duncan. We tell our Troopers to trust their instincts and lean into their experience and training when they’re on the highways. Anyone who has walked in a Trooper’s boots knows that trusting your gut keeps you safe so that you can protect and serve the public. In our world, hesitation can get you killed.”
“I thank God that He gave Alex the strength to survive that encounter, and that He put Kylie by her side when she needed support the most. I’m so proud of them both.”
Zapet-Alvarado was transported to Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas, where he was treated and released to law enforcement. Toxicology results indicate his blood-alcohol was .16 and that cannabinoids were present. He was transported to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he remains. He was placed on hold for Homeland Security Investigation (HSI).
Trooper Duncan was treated for non-life-threatening injuries she sustained when Zapet-Alvarado assaulted her."

"Mesa police have identified the man who was killed in a shooting involving officers Wednesday.
Police say Brandon Franklin Kizer, 35, was killed after offers shot him at an apartment complex near Main Street and Price Road as police were responding to a domestic situation.
It was just after 6 p.m. when officers were called about a domestic situation at the apartment involving a man who was reportedly stabbing himself.
About the same time second call from people at the apartments told the police dispatcher that the man’s mother had been stabbed.
When officers arrived on scene they say Brandon Franklin Kizer, 35, had a knife to his chest as they approached him and would not comply with orders to put the knife down.
Officers used non-lethal rounds, but police say they were not effective.
That is when the officers shot and killed Kizer.
Other officers found Kizer’s mother in a nearby apartment. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Four officers were involved in the incident, and no officers were injured, police say.
The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT) is investigating the incident, with the Gilbert Police Department as the primary investigating agency.
This is the 33rd officer-involved shooting in the Valley in 2024 and the 57th overall in the state."

"NEW YORK -- A New York City police sergeant shot a man who was armed with a knife in East Harlem on Saturday, police say.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. outside the New York City Police Department's 23rd Precinct station on East 102nd Street near Third Avenue.
According to police, someone walked into the station house and told officers there was a man outside who was armed with a knife and was trying to stab a group of people.
A uniformed sergeant and two officers left the station and saw a 36-year-old man running down the sidewalk, allegedly trying to stab someone.
Police say officers told the individual to drop the knife multiple times, but he continued to chase the victim and lunged at one of the officers.
According to police, he then lunged at the second officer, who deployed a Taser, but it had no effect on him.
"As the officer discharged the Taser, the male then swung the knife at the officer, missing her face by mere inches. The sergeant, seeing the male trying to slash the officer, has no choice but to discharge his firearm," NYPD Assistant Chief Ruel Stephenson said.
Police say the sergeant fired one shot, striking the man in the buttocks.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. He is expected to be OK. Charges are pending.
The officers were also taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No civilians were injured.
Investigators recovered a knife at the scene.
Stephenson says the entire incident -- from the moment the sergeant and officers saw the suspect to the moment the shot was fired -- lasted only 34 seconds.
"The situation was extremely chaotic and fast," Stephenson said.
Police say the shooting was captured on NYPD body cameras, and footage from security cameras allegedly shows the suspect trying to stab a group of people before officers arrived.
"This police department is the most restrained police department in the nation. We use force as a last resort. Unfortunately today, all of our attempts to de-escalate this fast-moving incident, which lasted 34 seconds, were unsuccessful," Stephenson said.
Police say the three officers have 44 years of experience between them.
The investigation is still ongoing, but police believe the situation started when the suspect got into some kind of argument with four other individuals. It's unclear if they knew each other.
According to police, the suspect had two prior encounters with police in May. In both of those incidents, he was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation."

"A Kentucky State Police trooper was in a pursuit that ended in a collision at the intersection of Outer Loop and New Cut Road around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 28.
The trooper arrested one man in the car, 44-year-old Jeremy Borzath of Louisville.
Another man in the car, 37-year-old Randall Allen, got out of the car and ran toward the Walmart. "So he's a white male with an orange shirt and he had a pistol," a Kentucky State Trooper can be heard saying in the video.
The bodycam video from Officer Brandon Brinkley shows him moving throughout the Walmart in search of Allen.
"Ya'll see a guy come in here with an orange shirt?" Officer Brinkley asks customers.
One shopper responds, "He just went back over there."
The officer eventually sees Allen moving toward the exit.
"Be advised, he's running toward the front, toward the door," Brinkley radios to dispatch.
That's when Brinkley can be seen chasing Allen on foot, telling him to stop.
At one point, he can be heard saying that Allen "is reaching," but it is unclear what for.
Allen can be seen on store surveillance video ducking around a corner and jumping into the passenger seat of a van in the drive-thru pharmacy there.
Brinkley can be heard telling Allen to get out of the van.
Police said Allen was pressing the van's accelerator with his hand and trying to shift its gears while the driver kept her foot on the brake.
The woman driving the van can be heard screaming as Brinkley then fires shots into the front windshield at Allen. She gets out of the vehicle after the shots are fired and runs away from the van.
Brinkley gave Allen several commands to raise his hands, but Allen kept saying he couldn't move his right arm.
Eventually, more officers show up and are able to remove Allen from the van together.
Police can be seen finding a handgun in Allen's right pants pocket, which they then remove before continuing to search him.
Police say Allen was hit multiple times but sustained non-life-threatening wounds.
Allen was arrested after being discharged from the hospital.
He is charged with resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police.
"We are very fortunate that nobody other than the assailant himself was injured and the woman who was the victim of a horrific carjacking attempting is safe," said Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg."

"Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred with SWAT in West Los Angeles Division.
On July 29, 2024, around 3:20 a.m., West Los Angeles Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of a Burglary Suspect in the 2600 block of South Halm Avenue. When the officers arrived, they met with the person who had called the police and were told the suspect, later identified as Lavell Adams, attempted to break into his home before breaking his elderly neighbor’s window and entering her residence, causing her to flee. Shortly thereafter, the woman’s house was set on fire.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and also observed Adams inside the residence. While inside the residence, officers attempted to take Adams into custody; however, Adams was armed with a knife and lunged toward officers, resulting in one officer deploying two Beanbag shotgun rounds towards Adams, who then barricaded himself inside the residence while still armed with the knife.
Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) responded and were establishing containment when Adams exited the residence through a side window covered with a blanket. Special Weapons and Tactics officers gave multiple commands for Adams to show his hands, drop the blanket, and comply with their directions. Multiple warnings related to force being used were also verbalized to Adams. Adams did not comply; instead, he lifted his right arm, holding a large butcher knife, and charged the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting with the simultaneous deployment of a TASER. The suspect was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground, dropping the knife.
Los Angeles Fire Department Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) unit immediately assessed Adams, who was determined to be deceased. No officers or other community members were injured due to this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident. Los Angeles Fire Department Arson investigators also responded to the scene and are investigating the fire at the residence."

"Dallas police Monday released portions of an edited dashcam video showing the fatal shooting last week of the man who killed Officer Darron Burks and injured two other officers.
The 40-second dashcam video from the end of the pursuit of the suspect in Lewisville shows the suspect, identified as Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, getting out of a vehicle with a firearm in hand, and walking toward officers. Officers can be heard ordering Cobb-Bey to drop the gun before officers begin firing at him.
Dallas Police Deputy Chief William Griffith said Cobb-Bey, 30, parked his white Buick in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 29. About two minutes later, officer Burks arrived and parked near the front of the facilities for the community organization For Oak Cliff between call assignments, according to police.
Cobb-Bey approached Burks and briefly spoke to him through the driver’s side window of his squad car, appearing to record the encounter on his cell phone, Griffith said.
“The suspect then pulls out a handgun and executes officer Burks as he sat in his vehicle,” he said. “At this point, a police dispatcher noticed an unusual transmission from officer Burks’ radio. The dispatcher attempted to contact officer Burks, who does not respond.”
The dispatcher found Burks via GPS and sent officers to check on him and the suspect went back to his vehicle, took out a shotgun and placed it on the roof of Burks’ squad car, Griffith said.
Dallas Police Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer responded to the scene, pulling into the parking lot at 10:11 p.m., police say. Cobb-Bey immediately fired a handgun at Farmer, Farmer returned fire and ran across the parking lot, Griffith said.
“The suspect grabbed the shotgun from the top of the squad car and fired one time toward officer Farmer, who continued running,” Griffith said. “Officer Farmer was hit one time in the leg.”
Dallas Police Sr. Cpl. Karissa David arrived at 10:12 p.m., positioning her car at the parking lot entrance, police say.
“The suspect ran toward officer David and shot her multiple times as she exited her vehicle,” Griffith said. “Officer David returned fire and was shot in the face during the exchange.”
A sergeant arrived and saw Cobb-Bey standing near his vehicle before he fled westbound on East Ledbetter Drive, then northbound onto I-35, police say. Police pursued Cobb-Bey into Lewisville, where he stopped on the expressway just north of State Highway 121 and got out of the vehicle with his shotgun in hand, police say.

Cobb-Bey pointed the shotgun at officers and officers Nathaniel Baker, David Lem, Corie Reed, Richard Pace, Vladmir Perez, and Joel Portillo all fired at Cobb-Bey, hitting him multiple times, police say. Cobb-Bey died at the scene and no officers were injured in that exchange, according to police.
Farmer was treated and released from the hospital and David remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
Griffith said an investigation determined the shooting was “premeditated” with detectives collecting evidence on social media.
He said police recovered two shotguns from the scene in Lewisville and two handguns from the scene on Ledbetter Drive.
The investigation is ongoing. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was notified and is conducting a separate investigation into the shooting.
The incident is the fifth officer-involved shooting involving a Dallas police officer in 2024.

"On July 20, 2024, at 7:22 p.m., deputies assigned to West Hollywood Station were
flagged down by two civilians in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenient store located in
the 7600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood. The civilians alerted the
deputies to the suspect, who was fleeing the location on foot. The suspect was later
identified as 33-year-old Cody Dodd-Thompson.
Believing a crime had occurred, the deputies began to follow Dodd-Thompson as they
used their radio to advise additional deputy personnel of the incident and to provide a
description of Dodd-Thompson. While following Dodd-Thompson, an assisting deputy
responded to the 7-Eleven store and spoke with the clerk, who confirmed Dodd-
Thompson had attempted to rob her.
Deputies formulated a tactical plan and attempted to detain Dodd-Thompson as he
continued walking east on Lexington Avenue toward Gardner Street. Dodd-Thompson
did not comply, produced a knife, and ran south on Gardner Street. Deputies initiated a
foot pursuit of Dodd-Thompson. During the foot pursuit, Dodd-Thompson stopped
running and turned toward one of the deputies while armed with a knife in his right
hand, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Dodd-Thompson sustained gunshot wounds to his body. Deputies rendered first aid
until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. Dodd-Thompson
was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No deputies or other persons were injured during the incident.
A folding knife, with an approximate four-inch blade, that was in the locked open
position was recovered at the scene."

"CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — No charges will be filed against Douglas County Deputies who shot a suspect after he led police on a pursuit from Thornton to Douglas County, then crashed into a 7-Eleven store, and pointed a gun at deputies.
"I reviewed all of the evidence provided by the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Investigation in order to determine whether there was any illegal use of force by the DCSO deputies who fired their weapons," the 18th Judicial District Chief Deputy District Attorney concluded.
An arrest affidavit shows Kyle Williamson was accused of multiple crimes including attempted murder.
The shooting happened on Oct. 11, and the charging decision was made this week after a Critical Incident Response Team investigation.
Thornton Police saw a suspicious black truck with red spray paint, according to the CIRT letter. Officers found the truck's license plate was "misused." According to an arrest affidavit, the officers were in unmarked cars at 4:30 a.m., and the CIRT report states Williamson doubled back and began following the officers.
While driving, Williamson fired at the officers, who then followed him onto I-25 south, an affidavit says. After getting shot at a couple more times, the officers followed him into Douglas County, and Douglas County deputies picked up the pursuit.
Eventually, Williamson crashed into the front of a 7-Eleven in Castle Rock.
When he got out of the truck, Williamson pointed a gun at Douglas County deputies who fired 31 total shots at him. Williamson was shot six times and survived his injuries, the CIRT report states.
"Applying the law to the facts of this incident, as described in more detail below, I conclude that the DCSO deputies who fired their weapons were legally justified in using lethal force against Mr. Williamson. The deputies’ use of force was reasonable, necessary, and appropriate in order to defend themselves and the public from the threat posed by Mr. Williamson," the Chief Deputy District Attorney wrote.
Williamson remains in custody at the Douglas County detention center under $500,000 cash or surety bond. He has trial dates scheduled for July."

"Approximately 1:40 A.M., uniformed officers assigned to the 115th precinct public safety team were working to address a robbery pattern in the area involving perpetrators on mopeds and scooters. They observed a male suspect drive a moped the wrong way on 82nd Street near 23rd Avenue and attempted to pull him over.
The suspect then fled on foot and our officers began a foot pursuit which led for several blocks. During the pursuit, the suspect fired multiple rounds at our officers who then returned fire. One officer was shot in the front of his bullet resistant vest. The other officer was shot in his leg. Both of our cops were taken to Elmhurst Hospital where they are being treated.
Thankfully, they are both in stable condition. The suspect was also shot in the right ankle and he was removed to New York Presbyterian Queens by EMS also in stable condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene. We visited the officers and their families a few moments ago. They're in good spirits and the NYPD stands at the ready to assist them in the full recovery.
Once again, this could have gone a very different way. It's only by the grace of God that we're out here talking about a terrible tragedy. We are here again talking about illegal firearms and the violent criminals with absolutely no problem using them against our officers. Our officers were out there doing the job that we asked them to do and we are very grateful that they're going to be okay."

"As part of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to transparency, it is our policy to release body-worn camera video of critical incidents, including deputy-involved shootings. We think it is important for members of our community to view the entirety of what is released, rather than rely on short snippets they may see elsewhere.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, the OCSO gang unit was conducting surveillance on a house with gang members suspected of multiple crimes, and an individual left the house holding a gun. The gang unit asked patrol deputies to contact the man, who walked into the 7-Eleven at 4011 W. Oak Ridge Rd. Deputies made contact and the man refused to stop, then made a move toward the gun in his waistband. One deputy shot the man and another deputy struggled to get the gun away from the subject. Deputies provided first aid, but the man was pronounced deceased on scene. Neither deputy was injured.

"MILWAUKEE, WI— On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Milwaukee
Police officers were dispatched to an alleged shooting on the 4300 block of W. Capitol Drive.
Upon arrival, uniformed officers encountered an individual who was inside the gas station that was
wanted for a double shooting. The suspect retreated into the back of the gas station as officers
approached and gave the suspect several commands to show his hands. The suspect disregarded the commands, brandished a firearm and fired shots towards the officers and individuals inside the
store. At this time, an officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. Officers retreated to cover and
continued to give the suspect commands to drop the gun and show his hands. The suspect then
again brandished a firearm toward officers, at which time an officer discharged his weapon.
Officers continued to give the suspect commands but the suspect did not comply. The suspect ran
out of the store and fired numerous shots at officers, at which time several officers returned fire
subsequently striking the suspect.

"Let's hear it for Deputy Wes Brough, who found and rescued a missing child in a pond last night in Deltona!
Deputies responded to a report of a missing child around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Valmont Lane, Deltona. The boy's father told deputies his 5-year-old son escaped the house through a second-story door, which set off an alarm. The family immediately began looking, asked neighbors for help, and called 911.
Deputies searched the house and the immediate area with no luck. But knowing that the 5-year-old had autism and was attracted to water, deputies began checking bodies of water near the neighborhood. Deputy Brough and others headed for a pond a few blocks away behind Toluca Court.
Around 7:48 p.m., Deputy Brough heard a voice and spotted the boy out in the water, hanging onto a log. Deputy Brough jumped into the pond and carried the boy to dry land, where he was medically cleared and returned to his family.
It was confirmed the family had taken several measures to secure the house, including the alarm on the door that immediately alerted them the boy had gone missing.
Like all VSO deputies, Deputy Brough has received Autism Awareness Training to help prepare for a wide variety of calls involving people with autism, including missing children. Great job to all involved on this call!"

"Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) in Newton Division.
On July 4, 2024, around 12:45 a.m., Newton Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon Domestic Violence Restraining Order (RO) violation. The comments of the call indicated the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Carlos Rangel, was married to the victim. The victim had a valid RO against Rangel, who threatened to burn down the victim’s Recreational Vehicle (RV) with the victim and her two minor children inside.
When the officers arrived, they observed Rangel standing at the rear of the RV. Rangel immediately moved away from the RV and reached for his front waistband. Rangel’s shirt covered an unknown object. Despite the officers’ repeated commands, Rangel failed to comply with their attempts to de-escalate and failed to remove his hands from his waistband. One officer provided a verbal warning to Rangel that a 40mm Less-Lethal-Launcher (LLL) may be used. Rangel continued to reach for his waistband which resulted in two officers deploying a total of three rounds from their 40mm LLL at him. Rangel was struck by the rounds and taken into custody without further incident. The object in his waistband was later determined to be a cordless drill.
Officers requested an ambulance, and Rangel was taken to a local hospital, where he was admitted due to a fractured index finger sustained as a result of the 40mm deployment.
During the investigation, it was determined that Rangel attempted to set the RV on fire with the Victim and her children inside. Rangel was booked for Attempt Murder, booking #6840800. Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident. Los Angeles Fire Department Arson investigators also responded and are working in conjunction with FID.
No other community members or officers were injured as a result of this incident."

"ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesday released two videos related to the CVPA school shooting...
...The shooting at Central Visual Performing Arts High School left 15-year-old student Alexzandria Bell and teacher Jean Kuczka dead. Police killed the shooter, 19-year-old Orlando Harris, a former student.
St. Louis police said the responding officers, students, and family members of the victims and suspect were given the chance to watch the videos before they were released. Officials said the footage was retraumatizing for those who chose to view them. The police department and school district said they have provided mental health support for those groups.
Editor's note: The videos are graphic and difficult to watch. The videos were released with blurred sections. All edits that appear in the video were made by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. 5 On Your Side is showing this video to be transparent with the public and because of the severity of the crime.
The surveillance video lays out a timeline of the events:
9:02 a.m. - In the video, Orlando Harris is seen pulling up onto the sidewalk on the Arsenal Street side of the school in a blue sedan.
9:04 a.m. - Harris gets out of his car, walks to the passenger side to get something, and then begins to approach the school.
9:07 a.m. - Harris breaks the glass of a secured door. An unarmed security guard stationed inside the door sees the shooter, ducks behind a wall, and appears to use a two-way radio to alert others in the building.
9:08 a.m. - Harris enters the school carrying a long gun and walks to the gym. The video shows a person leaving the gym as Harris is approaching. The person is blurred in the video, so it is unclear if they saw Harris. Text on the screen says Harris has fired multiple shots in the gym and is moving to the second floor.
9: 09 a.m. - The first 911 call is made. A security guard is seen running up the stairs as Harris approaches. Harris then climbs the stairs to the second floor.
9:11 a.m. - Harris is seen walking down a second-floor hallway. The video also plays audio of police being dispatched to the school. The dispatcher says, "There's an active shooter inside the gym. Shots fired in progress."
9:14 a.m. - Harris reaches the third floor.
9:17 a.m. - Text on the screen says Harris fired shots inside room 323.
9:18 a.m. - Harris drops something in the hall, pulls a fire alarm, then stands and waits to see if students will come into the hallway.
Approximately 9:20 a.m. - Police arrive on the third floor. Nearly a dozen officers converge on the corner of the hallway. At about 9:23, they locate Harris, and a shell casing can be seen coming from one of the officer's guns.
At approximately 9:26 a.m. - Text on the screen says, "Suspect 'In Custody.'"
Body camera footage shows officers arriving at CVPA. The video, which is 2 minutes and 48 seconds, shows officers climbing three flights of stairs before arriving at the corner of the hallway seen in the security video.
Officers fired shots through glass library doors before shooting the lock on the door to make entry where the gunman was. As officers storm the library, they fire numerous shots with a long rifle.
The suspect can briefly be seen falling to the ground as officers continue to fire shots. After the body falls to the ground, the video blurs the body. Police continue to fire shots until an officer yells, "ceasefire, ceasefire, suspect down."
The video then ends abruptly.
At a news conference on Monday, Major Janice Bockstruck of the police department's force investigative unit said the actions of unarmed security guards who the suspect confronted are true heroes.
"What you do not see in the video is that they never left the building. They remained inside, tracked the movements of the armed suspect, and radioed this information in. All the while alerting students and staff of the intruder's presence. They are heroes, and they saved lives," she said."

"CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - For the first time body camera video of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Cedar Rapids back in April has been released.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department released the body camera footage along with an explanation of what happened leading up to the shooting late Tuesday morning.
A review of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Cedar Rapids in April has found officers acted with legal justification.
The body-worn camera footage of the incident was released Tuesday morning.
In the incident, David Vanderhamm, 39, of Cedar Rapids, died after an altercation with police on April 6.
Vanderhamm’s mother called police to the 200 block of 31st Street NE around 2:20 p.m. for help getting her son to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. She reported Vanderhamm had access to a firearm and was paranoid and violent.
Police Chief David Dostal said Vanderhamm was taken to the hospital, but refused treatment and left. His step-father picked him up and took him home.
Later that day, around 6:37 p.m., Vanderhamm called police saying he wanted to fight with officers and made threatening statements.
When officers arrived and gave verbal commands for Vanderhamm to drop his weapon.
”Officers developed a tactical plan to include less lethal options. The officer response team included lethal force and taser options,” Dostal said.
In the body camera footage, officers can be heard saying to deploy a taser. TV9 asked CRPD if a taser had been deployed. The only response received was that no further information outside of the press release and accompanying video would be released at this time..
Police said he raised the weapon instead and three officers fired, killing him.
Police said Vanderhamm’s step-father, who was trying to de-escalate the situation, was also hit by the gunfire. The body camera video shows he was in the line of fire. The step-father was taken to the hospital for multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his stomach, and one to the right side of his head.
Officers can be seen running to his side after the shooting.
Police said the step-father told them Vanderhamm had wanted to “commit suicide by cop.”
No police officers were injured during the shooting.
Police said the weapon Vanderhamm was holding was an air-rifle, which police showed an image of, describing as “real-looking, replica firearm.”
”Only after the shooting when a crime scene team recovered the weapon and accompanying magazine Vanderhamm had been wielding was it discovered that the weapon was a black, SIG MPX CO2 air rifle with the stock removed,” Dostal said.
The Iowa Attorney General’s office ruled the shooting justified roughly two weeks ago."

"GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —
Tuesday, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office released its critical incident report, body camera video, and 911 call from their June 15 police shooting.
Deputies say a 911 call from Arch Street came in at 7:39 on the night of June 15. The caller's words sound unclear, upset, and like the person was speaking with someone else.
When a deputy arrived, you can hear gunfire while they walk up to the house, the shots continuing as the deputy calls for backup. When backup arrives, the video shows the man walking out with a gun, and a deputy firing his weapon. A total of 12 shots were fired.
"We have a white male down," said the deputy in his body camera video. "He had a rifle; he was firing into the house, yelling at somebody. We have no idea if a victim's inside. Hey, we need to push up. We need to see if a victim's inside. Let's go."
Deputies did not find anyone inside or on the property. That man was later identified as 55-year-old Ronald Dean Beheler. SLED is still investigating."

"Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia on Monday shared dash camera and body camera videos of last week's shooting involving a police officer.
The shooting happened Thursday in the 9600 block of Golf Lakes Trail after police said four people in a stolen truck rammed a police car while trying to escape officers who had surrounded them in a parking lot.
After a Flock license plate reader flagged a stolen pickup truck, covert officers verified the truck's location, and then officers in marked units surrounded the vehicle. As the officers moved into position, the pickup driver accelerated out of a parking space and drove up onto the hood of a police car.
The video appeared to show four people getting out of the disabled truck and scattering. During the chaotic foot chase, police said an armed 17-year-old, identified as Eric Lampkin-Scarborough, was carrying a handgun modified with an extended magazine and a switch and was shot twice by an officer. Lampkin-Scarborough, Garcia said, was given first aid by police officers and was in stable condition Monday.
Two others were taken into custody Thursday, while a fourth person, who was also believed to be armed, escaped and remains at large. That person's identity has not been confirmed by police.
Dallas police said 19-year-old Deantae Moore was one of the people in the vehicle. He was taken into custody on outstanding capital murder warrants related to the slayings of two 18-year-old men at a Dallas convenience store in March.
The third person taken into custody was identified as 21-year-old Damon Price. Price was also hospitalized after being taken into custody after complaining of chest pain.
In addition to Moore's capital murder charges, police said the other men faced several charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, evading detention on foot, aggravated assault of a public servant, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
Police said four weapons were recovered, including two that fell from the vehicle, a third near where Lampkin-Scarborough ran from the scene, and a fourth was found during a search of the stolen truck. Two of the weapons were stolen, Garcia said.
Garcia said Monday that while it's not known what the foursome had planned that afternoon, oftentimes people steal vehicles to commit more serious crimes. Because the men were found in possession of two stolen weapons and masks, officials believe police officers prevented something more nefarious from taking place.
It's not clear if any of the suspects have obtained attorneys to speak on their behalf.
The investigation is ongoing and is being investigated by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was notified and responded to the scene and will conduct their own investigation. The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified and responded to the scene."

"JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An officer shot a suspect in the chest during a confrontation on Blanding Boulevard Wednesday evening, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says. According to JSO, the man was identified as Brenton A. Paquin, a suspect in two armed robberies in Lake County, Florida, and a person of interest in a murder in Vermont.
According to JSO, around 6:30 p.m., an officer noticed a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle used in a robbery in Clermont, Fla.
JSO Chief Alan Parker says Paquin was found approaching the vehicle while walking a dog. Paquin confirmed that the car belonged to him.
When the officer asked him to sit down, Paquin "ignored him, stayed on his phone, and tried to brush past him" to get to the car, Parker said.
According to Parker, the officer attempted to grab Paquin, but he got into the front of a vehicle and pulled out a gun.
"It wasn't as simple as as turning around with a gun in his hand," Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said. "He was very, very close."
The officer fired at Paquin, who then dropped the gun. Aid was rendered once backup arrived to assist the officer. The Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department then took Paquin to the hospital.
Parker said that as of Tuesday night, Paquin had been through surgery and was in stable condition."

"First and foremost, my heart breaks for the family and friends of Sonya Massey. This is a tragic incident, and we mourn with them and the community.
Immediately upon notification of the shooting, I contacted the Illinois State Police and asked them to conduct the investigation. This tragic incident deserved an independent, swift, and thorough review. I asked the ISP to proceed rapidly but thoroughly, and they have done just that. I thank them for their service, and the service they have provided for our community.
The investigation into the shooting on July 6, 2024, is now complete. The Sangamon County State’s Attorney has filed charges against the deputy involved in the fatal shooting of Ms. Massey. It is clear that the deputy did not act as trained or in accordance with our standards. Therefore, Sean Grayson’s employment with the Sheriff's Office has been terminated. It is my understanding that the body cam videos will be released on Monday, July 22nd; I completely support the release of the officers’ body cam videos in their entirety.
The actions taken by Deputy Grayson do not reflect the values and training of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office or law enforcement as a whole. Good law enforcement officers stand with our community in condemning actions that undermine the trust and safety we strive to uphold. In times like these, it is crucial for leadership across all sides and spectrums to come together to heal our community.
We are committed to justice and accountability. With our badge we accept enormous responsibility, and if that responsibility is abused, there should be consequences. Our office will continue to cooperate fully with the criminal proceedings as this case moves forward. We must continue to trust our justice system and the legal process, and work together as a community so the actions of one person does not divide us."

"Fort Worth Chief of Police Neil Noakes says five Fort Worth officers fired on an armed man who tried to carjack a driver after a police chase last week, hitting him seven times.
Noakes said the department was still very early in their investigation but released an edited video of the 20-minute chase on Tuesday, trimming it to six minutes. The video showed officers following a GMC Sierra truck after the vehicle was flagged as stolen by Flock cameras.
Fort Worth police said last week that in an attempt to elude officers, the driver of the truck rammed into a police car and drove erratically until police disabled the vehicle using spike strips. The chase came to an end near NW 28th Street and McKinley Avenue, where police said the driver then got out of the rolling pickup with a long gun and attempted to carjack another vehicle.
Video released Tuesday showed the chase and carjacking and the moment when the man got out of the second vehicle with a long gun held to his head. That's when five officers fired on the man, striking him at least seven times.
The driver was arrested, transported for medical attention, and listed in stable condition. Noakes said the driver gave them a name but that they have not yet been able to confirm his age or identity. The man had injuries in both his upper and lower body and is still listed in stable condition.
Noakes said last week it was important to keep innocent civilians in mind throughout this entire series of events.
"This is another example of how unpredictable and dangerous the job of a police officer can be. Never know when you might encounter someone with a weapon, never know what someone might do with that weapon," said Nokes. "…And when you're in a place like this where there are innocent civilians around where there could be anything in that backdrop, they've got to make sure when they're firing they know what's beyond the threat that they're trying to stop, he continued.""

"On June 13, 2024, at 7:46 p.m., deputies assigned to Compton Station responded to a call of a potentially intoxicated individual armed with a gun in the 14600 block of Cahita Avenue, in unincorporated Compton. The caller indicated that a Hispanic male was in the backyard of a residence, possibly under the influence of drugs, and had discharged a firearm. The male was later identified as 30-year-old Jerman Magana from the City of Compton.
Deputies located Magana in the backyard and instructed him to exit with his hands raised. Magana initially retreated out of sight before reappearing on the roof inhaling from an air canister. Despite repeated commands to come down and communicate with deputies, Magana refused to comply and instead demanded the deputies shoot him.
Deputies contained the area and requested an airship. A Sheriff's airship arrived and began orbiting above the location. Magana was observed armed with a shotgun, which he then discharged into the air. Deputies, who were positioned in a nearby residence, witnessed Magana firing at the airship, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Magana was struck by gunfire, dropped his shotgun, and fell down on the rooftop. Special Enforcement Bureau deputies were requested to assist in apprehending Magana. Special Enforcement Bureau Emergency Detail paramedics also responded and administered first aid until Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived.
Magana was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other persons were injured in the incident.
An inspection of the airship revealed impact marks to the helicopter blade.

"Police in San Jose released additional details Monday after officers shot and wounded a suspect during a confrontation in East San Jose over the weekend.
The shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Kollmar Drive, near Story Road and Capitol Expressway shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, after officers responded to reports of a man firing a gun.
In a press conference Monday afternoon, Acting Chief Paul Joseph said that officers were called to an apartment complex in the area at 4:11 p.m. following reports of someone shooting bullets from a van in the parking lot. The suspect also reportedly blocked access to the lot and brandished a firearm on a mother returning home to her children.
"Like countless times before, our officers responded selflessly, placing themselves between vulnerable people and a dangerous individual," Joseph said.
Several minutes later, police reported being shot at by the suspect, leading to two officers returning fire.
Joseph said the suspect had reloaded his weapon and began running northbound through the complex. While responding officers lost sight of the suspect, they continued to hear gunshots.
Additional officers arrived at the scene. Joseph said the suspect opened fire at one of the officers while advancing. Another officer shot the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Ricardo Villareal of San Jose.
The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but no officers were hit by gunfire, police said. An unregistered gun was recovered at the scene.
According to the chief, the three officers who used their weapons had 3.5 years experience, 4 years experience and 4.5 years experience, respectively.
"The potential for a mass tragedy was last night was imminent," Joseph said at the news conference. "This apartment complex was filled with people enjoying a warm, sunday evening. Families, friends and children were safe, and the next were in grave danger."
Police said Villareal had been convicted of previous felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and a stolen vehicle. He was on probation at the time of the shooting.
Joseph said that 15 San Jose police officers have been shot at over the last 15 months.
Five of the officers have been struck by gunfire, including two officers who were shot while responding to a domestic violence call earlier this month. According to Joseph, one of the officers remained hospitalized as of Monday.
"The frequency of San Jose police officers being shot at or hit by gunfire has gone from a rare anomaly to a regular occurance," Joseph said. "We cannot allow attempts of killing of our officers to become normalized, expected or tolerated."
The chief said Sunday's incident remains under investigation."

"A suspect is in custody following a shooting Tuesday afternoon on Old Knoxville Highway near Jacob Springs Road, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
According to BCSO, deputies responded to 1105 Jacob Springs Blvd for a domestic dispute. After deputies arrived, the suspect was non-compliant which resulted in shots being fired.
According to Blount County Sheriff James Berrong, the deputies lost sight of the suspect, later identified as 59-year-old Ronald Reed Millsaps, in the garage of the home. When Millsaps was next seen, he began to shoot at the deputies.
Berrong also said he estimated Millsaps to have fired around 150-300 rounds, but the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation would be doing their own investigation into the incident to confirm those numbers.
Millsaps had multiple high-powered rifles and handguns in almost every area of the house, Berrong said.
"We had information he had weapons in every area of the house, and window sills and beside the doors," Berrong said. "He was ready for a battle and that’s what he came to us with.”
The deputies then sought cover behind their vehicles and returned fire while Millsaps retreated back into the home, according to Berrong. He also said both wounded deputies placed their own tourniquets.
Berrong said both Deputy Corbin Smith, 25, and Deputy Edward Walker, 28, were shot in the leg and were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. They are in stable condition. Berrong also noted that one of the officers had a 4-week-old child.
"Deputies were able to rescue Deputy Smith and Deputy Walker while taking gunfire from the suspect,” Berrong said.
Berrong said there was an elderly woman within the home at the time of the shooting who was believed to be a bedridden relative. Berrong also said BCSO had responded to the same home on multiple occasions. There were no other injuries within the home after the incident, Berrong said.
Multiple agencies assisted BCSO at the scene including U.S. Marshals, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the Knoxville Police Department, the Alcoa Police Department also assisted BCSO. In total, at least 15 agencies came to the aid of the department during the shooting.
When asked how BCSO felt after their deputies were shot, Marian O'Briant, with BCSO, said, "It hits hard, this shouldn't be happening but it is happening."
Berrong said this marks four officers being shot in four months, with one of those being fatal.
Millsaps is currently being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility. Berrong said he will have charges of at least attempted murder on more than one count.
In February 2024, two Blount County deputies were shot after conducting a traffic stop. One of the deputies, Greg McCowan, was killed after being transported to the hospital. The other deputy, Shelby Eggers, was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

"INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released edited video Thursday that shared what led up to officers fatally shooting a 35-year-old man who allegedly pointed a gun at one of the officers on the city's north side.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on May 2, police said someone called 911 about a man waving a gun and threatening to shoot people near a housing complex in the 600 block of East 38th Street.
While responding to the scene, officers got an update from dispatchers that a man matching the suspect's description was on a woman's front porch in the 3900 block of Broadway Street, waving a gun and making threats.
"He has a gun. He has put it in front of my face, and he clanked it against a metal bar to let me know it's real," the woman can be heard saying on the 911 call.
IMPD said nine-year veteran Officer Randall Buck and six-year veteran Officer Ivan Flick arrived to the scene and found 35-year-old Lemar Brandon Qualls on the porch.
Doorbell camera video shows Flick walk up to the porch, where Qualls can be heard saying "You're fine. You know me. I wouldn't do this if it wasn't what I think it is. If I'm wrong, tell me, please."
Flick can then be heard telling Qualls "hands up, hands up."
The doorbell camera video shows Qualls raise his gun and point it toward Flick. That's when Flick opens fire on Qualls, and Buck also shoots at Qualls from the grass.
IMPD said Flick's body-worn camera was not activated until after he fired shots.
According to IMPD, Flick and Buck waited for additional officers to arrive before approaching Qualls after shooting him.
Officers provided treatment to the man until medics arrived and took him to Methodist Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
IMPD said the gun Qualls had was found on the stairs to the patio. Investigators believe one of the officers' shots hit the gun, causing damage to the magazine.
No officers or other citizens were injured, according to IMPD.
Flick and Buck were placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
The shooting is being investigated by IMPD's Critical Incident Response Team, as well as a separate investigation by IMPD Internal Affairs."

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Southeast Division.
On May 19, 2024, around 6:40 p.m., Southeast Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call in the 100 block of West Colden Avenue, for a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect. The individual, later identified as 42-year-old Wilver Blanco, was reported to be armed with a knife in the roadway, possibly under the influence of narcotics and chasing an elderly male at the location.
When the officers arrived to the area of the call, they found Blanco standing behind a vehicle parked on the street holding a knife in his right hand. The officers stopped their vehicle, deployed behind their respective doors and ordered Blanco multiple times to drop his knife. Blanco ignored the officers’ commands and climbed onto the rear bumper of the parked vehicle. While still gripping the knife in his right hand, Blanco then stepped off the bumper, assumed a crouched position and ran toward the passenger officer, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Blanco was struck by gunfire and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers rendered medical aid to Blanco until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, who after assuming care, transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Notifications to the next of kin were conducted by representatives from the Family Liaison Section.
No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. An 8 ½ inch folding knife with a 3 ½ inch blade was recovered at scene."

"The footage released by the Lee County Sheriff's Office on Saturday shows the Feb. 7 incident at a Bank of America in Fort Myers.
Officials said 36-year-old Sterling Avalanche was armed with a knife when he entered the bank and made verbal threats before taking two individuals hostage behind the counter.
When officers arrived, they attempted to negotiate with him, but officials said he got upset and became physical.
“He started to put one of the hostages in a headlock and had the knife to her throat,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.
At this point, the SWAT team decided to use their sniper, shooting and killing Avalanche almost instantly.
In the surveillance video, a group of officers line up horizontally and an officer is seen standing behind them pointing the sniper rifle.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the men and women of law enforcement today, my family members today, the SWAT team today. How you train is how you perform, and this is exactly what we train for,” said Marceno."

"The standoff began around 9:45 a.m. when officers were looking for Mendivil, who was a suspect in an aggravated assault incident.
Despite several hours of negotiations, Mendivil refused to come out of the home.
After more than five hours, the Tucson Police Department SWAT forced their way into the home and Mendivil allegedly fired on them.
Several SWAT members were pinned down and had to use directed fire to move to a safer area.
Over the next several hours, authorities tried to use less-than-lethal equipment to get Mendivil to surrender. The whole time, Mendivil continued to fire off rounds.
PRCIT said that is when the Pima County Sheriff’s Department evacuated people from a nearby park as they were in danger.
PRCIT said “several more hours of negotiation efforts were attempted through a variety of tools to facilitate communication, many of which were disabled by Mendivil’s gunfire.”
Due to the continued gunfire, TPD asked for Arizona DPS to bring in their armored equipment to remove a portion of an external wall to get to Mendivil.
Once law enforcement got in, they saw Mendivil was alive and armed with two handguns and an AR-15-style rifle. PRCIT said that is when Mendivil shot himself in the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Based on the investigation, Mendivil fired more than 400 rounds at law enforcement.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is handling the investigation with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as the lead agency. The TPD will continue to investigate to see if anyone violated any of the department’s policies."

"On March 19, 2024, at 9:18 p.m., Lakewood Station deputies responded to a residence
in the 15900 block of Indiana Avenue, Paramount, regarding a welfare call. They
contacted the victim, who stated her ex-boyfriend had violated a protective order by
showing up at her residence and demanding she let him inside. The male was later
identified as 40-year-old Jose Acosta from the city of Bellflower.
Deputies observed Acosta driving near the victim’s residence in an orange Pontiac
vehicle. Deputies followed Acosta until he stopped in the number two lane of eastbound
Artesia Boulevard at Downey Avenue in the city of Long Beach. As deputies prepared
to conduct a traffic stop, they positioned their vehicles behind Acosta, who suddenly put
his vehicle in reverse. Acosta accelerated backwards and crashed into the front end of
the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The impact of the collision was so violent that it caused both
vehicles to become inoperable.
Deputies immediately exited their patrol vehicles and observed Acosta exit the driver’s
door of his vehicle with a knife in his right hand. Deputies ordered Acosta to drop his
weapon, but he refused and charged toward them, at which time a deputy-involved
shooting occurred.
Acosta sustained gunshot wounds to the torso. Deputies rendered aid until the arrival
of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. Acosta was subsequently
pronounced dead at the scene.
A knife with an approximate three-inch blade was recovered at the scene.
One deputy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-
threatening injuries sustained during the collision. There were no other persons injured
in the incident."

"On April 12, 2024, OKCPD officers responded to the 200 block of SE 54th St. in reference to a man outside shooting a gun. When officers arrived, it was determined the man was inside of 243 SE 54th St. Officers were in a position of cover when they called the man out of the residence. "As The Seattle Police Department continues its commitment to transparency, and in accordance with department policy, we are releasing bodyworn video from an officer-involved shooting on April 17 in Tukwila. The incident led to the death of a suspect and an officer with a graze wound.
The shooting happened at about 3:14 p.m. during an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce operation at a hotel in the 16500 block of Southcenter Parkway. The taskforce was conducting a sting on a suspected child predator.
Police had probable cause to arrest the 67-year-old suspect. He thought he was meeting two young girls, just 7 and 11 years old inside a room. As three officers intercepted him and tried to take him into custody, he produced a gun. One of the officers grabbed for that gun. It was fired. Two officers fired their guns at the suspect. He was pronounced dead.
One of the officers involved suffered a graze wound. He was treated for a minor injury and was not transported to the hospital.
The Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the scene for evidence.
The Tukwila Police Department is investigating the assault on the officers.
Meanwhile, The Seattle Police Department Force Investigation Team continues to thoroughly review what happened, which is standard protocol.
We take these incidents seriously and understand transparency is key. This is SPD’s first officer-involved shooting in eight months and it is the first officer-involved shooting ending with a death in 23 months. Any time there is a loss of life, it is devastating to our community.
FIT, CSI, the Office of Police Accountability, the Wellness Unit and Office of the Inspector General all joined on the scene.
The officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation is underway. This is also standard protocol.

"In a video posted to the department’s YouTube page, SPD says the incident began around 1:40 p.m. on March 29 when an officer with the Sparks Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a Ford Expedition with no license plates in the 1500 block of Greenbrae Drive.
Sparks Police say the officer tried to make contact with the driver, later identified as Anthony Wade of Reno. The body cam video from the officer shows Wade immediately pull out a gun and shoot at the officer through the driver’s side window, striking him, causing multiple injuries to his neck and scalp.
The officer then returned fire before Wade drove off, headed east on Greenbrae before running a stop sign at the intersection with Rock Blvd. A U-Haul truck headed south hit the Expedition in the intersection, disabling Wade’s car...
...Sparks Police got a 911 call that a black male adult had forcibly entered a home in the 1400 block of Prospect Avenue. The caller said she had been in the kitchen cooking when Wade entered her home with a gun. The woman told dispatch she used a knife to cut Wade, who then fled out of the back of the residence.
Officers from multiple agencies set up a perimeter and a shelter in place order was given to people in the immediate area. The Sparks Police Department, Reno Police Department, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office then initiated a door-to-door search for Wade.
An investigation revealed that, as this was happening, Wade entered another residence and took a woman hostage. Officers were able to make contact with that woman around 2:00 p.m., who was trying to leave the area in a vehicle in the 1300 block of Prospect.
Officers told the driver that there was a shelter in place order and that they needed to go back inside. She then drove back into her garage, closing the door behind her. Officers later learned she had been taken hostage by Wade, and that he had forced her to leave the search area as he hid in the rear passenger compartment of the car.
A deputy with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office then saw the kidnapped woman lying in the floor of the doorway. As the deputy identified himself as police, Wade started shooting from inside the residence, hitting the deputy and a Sparks police officer. Officers returned fire and dragged the victim to safety.
Wade fled out the house’s backyard, jumping over a fence, and landing in a neighbor’s yard in the 1300 block of Greenbrae. That homeowner then called 911 at around 2:15 p.m., saying she was hiding in her bathroom after Wade broke into her house.
Wade then fled out of the back of the house, attempting to hide behind a shed in the backyard. About 15 minutes later, the victim exited her house without incident.
A short time later, Wade reentered her home through the back door. Crisis negotiators and SWAT were then called to the scene, where they tried to get Wade to leave without further incident for around five hours. Wade did not respond.
At around 7:30 p.m., SWAT entered the house’s garage. Wade, who had been hiding, started firing at the officers, hitting the gun of one of the officers. The SWAT officers then continued to fire at Wade as they exited the garage.
After police were not able to get a response from Wade, they reentered the garage where he was found dead. An investigation revealed Wade to be in possession of a .40 caliber, semiautomatic handgun, with an extended magazine.
The Sparks Police Department says the entire incident lasted around 8 and half hours.
The officers who were injured were taken to a local hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released."

"On March 21, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary reports indicate that this incident began when five Chicago Police officers assigned to an 11th District tactical unit engaged in a traffic stop of Dexter Reed, Jr. for purportedly not wearing a seatbelt. Upon stopping Mr. Reed, multiple officers surrounded his vehicle while giving verbal commands. When Mr. Reed did not comply with these commands, officers pointed their firearms at Mr. Reed and ultimately there was an exchange of gunfire which left Mr. Reed dead and an officer shot in the forearm. Review of video footage and initial reports appears to confirm that Mr. Reed fired first, striking the officer and four officers returned fire. Available preliminary evidence also confirms that officers returned fire approximately 96 times over a period of 41 seconds, including after Mr. Reed exited his vehicle and fell to the ground. Mr. Reed was struck by gunfire multiple times and was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased. A gun was recovered on the front passenger seat of Mr. Reed’s vehicle.
“As an agency established on the core principle of reform, we take investigations into the use of deadly force and surrounding circumstances very seriously. COPA has the responsibility, as is noted in the Federal Consent Decree and Municipal Ordinance, to review every police shooting involving CPD officers. Each use of deadly force must be evaluated by examining the totality of circumstances, including the officer’s actions prior to the use of force. Accordingly, we will carefully review the actions of the involved police officers and their supervisors to determine whether training, policy and directives were properly followed,” said First Deputy Chief Administrator, Ephraim Eaddy. “Our immediate investigatory steps included responding to the scene, viewing available body worn camera footage, and observing the collection of evidence, including shell casings and other ballistics evidence. As the investigation continues, COPA staff have canvassed the area, observed the autopsy of Dexter Reed, Jr., continued to identify and interview all witnesses, obtained, and reviewed all available video footage, and engaged with the Illinois
State Police Forensic Science Laboratory in the processing and testing of all forensic evidence. COPA investigators have also provided briefings to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Department of Justice (DOJ), and sent a formal request to Superintendent Larry Snelling recommending the Chicago Police Department relieve four officers of their police powers during the pendency of this investigation. We have also been in contact with the family and will continue to provide updates as the investigation is ongoing,” Eaddy said.
COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other
materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy. Related to this officer involved shooting incident, COPA has released to its website: 23 body-worn camera (BWC) video, 2 in-car camera (ICC) videos, 6 third-party videos, 1 POD (Police Observation Device) video, 4 OEMC Transmissions, 20 Shot Spotter recordings, 1 Case Incident, 5 Tactical Response, and 1 Traffic Crash reports, which can be viewed by visiting: chicagocopa.org/case/2024-0003052"
