Kurzbiographie Lisa Kornder: Lisa ist Sprachwissenschaftlerin und seit 2020 Post-Doc in Forschung und Lehre am Institut für Anglistik an der Universität Graz. Ausgehend von ihrer Dissertation, in der sie sich mit Merkmalen in der englischen und österreichisch-deutschen Aussprache von Arnold Schwarzenegger beschäftigt hat, beleuchtet sie in ihrer Forschung sprachwissenschaftliche Phänomene rund um Mehrsprachigkeit und Zweitsprachenerwerb.

Der österreichische Preis für „hervorragende Wissenschaftsvermittlung” wird heuer erstmals im Rahmen der Langen Nacht der Forschung verliehen.
Der mit 20.000 Euro und einem Glas Alpakakot dotierte Heinz Oberhummer Award für Wissenskommunikation für „hervorragende Wissenschaftsvermittlung“ wird am 24. Mai 2024 bereits zum 9. Mal verliehen, heuer an den Wissenschaftspodkast “Methodisch inkorrekt! (minkorrekt)”
Die Lange Nacht der Forschung findet am Freitag, den 24. Mai 2024 von 17.00 Uhr bis 23.00 Uhr in ganz Österreich statt. Gastgeber für die Verleihung des Heinz Oberhummer Awards im Jahr 2024 ist das Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung (BMBWF). Am Standort Wien-Heldenplatz zeigt das BMBWF die Vielfalt der Wissenschaftsvermittlung.
Im Hauptabendprogramm um 20.30 Uhr spielen die Science Busters und die Preisträger des Heinz Oberhummer Awards 2024 eine Live-Gala-Vorstellung. Die Veranstaltung wird auch als Live-Stream im Internet zu sehen sein.

Außerdem waren über Furth zum Auftakt der Frühjahressaison die 2 wunderbaren Nebensonnen zu sehen.
1000 Tage kein Klimaschutzgesetz in Österreich. - Das haben wir letzten September zum Anlass genommen, um in unsrer monatlichen Phone-In Sendung auf Radio FM4 eine Stunde lang Fragen zum Thema rund um die Klimakrise zu beantworten. Seit damals, seit 27.9. 2023, ist viel passiert – alle Jahreszeiten seither waren die wärmsten sei Aufzeichnungsbeginn. Aber es ist vor allem auch viel nicht passiert. U.a. hat Österreich nach wie vor kein neues Klimaschutzgesetz. Und man muss kein Prophet sein. Bis zur Nationalratswahl im Herbst wird sich das wohl nicht mehr ändern. Schon im August 2022 hat der damalige Umwelt- und Klimaschutzsprecher der Kanzlerpartei gesagt: „Das Klimaschutzgesetz sei „ein Grundgeräusch, aber nicht das Allerwesentlichste“ und auch „nicht die oberste Priorität“. Seither ist es eher noch schlimmer geworden, mittlerweile soll es sogar nur mehr Klimaschutz mit Hausverstand geben. Und so werden es im Herbst, wenn das Parlament in Österreich gewählt wird, nach dem möglicherweise wieder heißesten Sommer seit Aufzeichnungsbeginn über 1300 Tage sein ohne Klimaschutzgesetz. Folge 74 des SB Podcast ist ein Mitschnitt der FM4 Sendung vom 25.9. 2023. Mit Martin Puntigam im Studio waren Reinhard Steurer, Professor für Klimapolitik an der BOKU Wien. Florian Freistetter, Astronom & Mitglied der Science Busters. Und fernmündlich aus dem Rheinland zugeschaltet Claudia Frick, Meteorologin & Prof. für Wisskomm an TH Köln. Besprochen haben wir u.a. Wie man eigentlich ein Klimamodell baut, wie so wenig CO2 so wichtig sein kann, ob die Sonne weiß, dass sie nicht schuld ist an der Erderhitzung? Und: Müssen wir Wasserkraftwerke ab jetzt in die Innenstädte bauen? Die nächste Sendung findet am 18.3. statt, wieder von 13 – 14 uhr, also heute, für alle, die den Podcast erntefrisch hören. Und am Ende der Sendung gibt es wieder Neues aus der Marillenliga – die Frühjahrsaison in der 2.Klasse Wachau/Donau hat begonnen. Wir SB hatten die Patronanz des Heimspiels gegen den SK Tulbing. Bekanntlich spielt der USV Furth seit Herbst in den wunderschönen rosa SB Dressen. Und war seither in Heimspielen noch ungeschlagen. Ob das auch so geblieben ist, haben wir uns live angeschaut.

In Ausgabe 69 spricht Kabarettist Martin Puntigam mit dem Astronomen Florian Freistetter über die zweifache Entdeckung des Asteroiden Eris, warum es dort Dinner for One nur alle 560 Jahre gibt, weshalb die Heideggersche Geworfenheit für Raumsonden besonders gilt, was Pirola auf Galizisch bedeutet, was Mike Brown, Xena und Gabrielle miteinander zu tun haben, wie antriebslos Raumsonden sind, wie egoistisch Wissenschaftskommunikation ist, weshalb wir Science Busters nach unseren Shows für eine Mission zu Eris sammeln sollten, aber nur, wenn sie unterwegs beim Asteroiden Freistetter vorbeischaut.
Eris und Pirola sind die Spitznamen von zwei Corona-Varianten, nämlich EG.5.1 und BA.2.86. Und es sind tatsächlich Spitznamen, die sich Forschende auf Twitter ausgedacht haben. Pirola ist auch der Name eines eher unscheinbaren Asteroiden und hat mit dem Virus nix zu tun; da wollte man eine Mischung aus "Pi" und "Rho" basteln, damit man den Namen leicht anpassen kann, falls sich die Variante als relevant herausstellt.
Ganz und gar nicht unscheinbar ist dagegen der Asteroid Eris. Der hat durch seine Entdeckung das ganze Sonnensystem durcheinander gebracht. Zumindest die Art und Weise, wie wir die Himmelskörper bezeichnen. Als die Entdeckung 2005 bekannt gegeben wurde, war Pluto noch der neunte Planet. Und Eris ein Asteroid, der aber größer als Pluto war. Man konnte nun also entweder Eris selbst zu Planet Nr. 10 machen. Oder Pluto zu einem Asteroid. Die Diskussion darüber war recht heftig und wir kennen das Ende: Pluto ist seit 2006 kein Planet mehr. Und Eris deswegen nicht weniger spannend. Man hat ihn 2 mal entdeckt; bevor Eris zu Eris wurde, hat man ihn nach einer Fantasy-Heldin aus dem Fernsehen der 1990er Jahre benannt und am Ende hat man festgestellt, dass Eris doch gar nicht größer ist als Pluto.
Die Geschichte der Entdeckung von Eris und den Streit um Pluto kann am besten bei Mike Brown nachlesen, denn der ist der Entdecker höchstpersönlich und hat ein Buch geschrieben "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming" - heißt auf deutsch "Wie ich Pluto zur Strecke brachte: und warum er es nicht anders verdient hat".
Hinfliegen zu Eris geht theoretisch - aber da müsste man schon 2032 losfliegen und wäre erst gut 25 Jahre später dort.
