Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Main Theme (Piano Solo) Nnwt 2017-03-05 | Sheet Music + MIDI + MP3:mediafire.com/?whfjjoblppr0rgqI wanted to transcribe this thing since there are some really interesting harmonies going on. The original mix is pretty dense in some places, so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed some things here and there (since this is a reduction anyways I inevitably left out some stuff). My ears aren't the best, but they get the job done.Essentially, this piece is modal mixing up the wazoo. It mainly uses a few (aeolian, dorian, phrygian) but it never stays in one for too long, and it doesn't help that it modulates quite frequently. It really blurs the line between properly modulating and just borrowing chords to add color. Most of the chords have a good deal of extensions too, so it feels somewhat like an impressionist era kind of piece, but you can still hear the typical VGM moves for sure.Anyways, the most interesting chord is at m. 31 where the melody plays an A# minor phrase, bass holds down an A, and in between there's some kind of cluster-sounding harmony going on. At first I was tempted to say it was A7b9#11b13, but even that wasn't gritty enough. The closest thing to it I think is an A#m7/A polychord with a D# thrown in there for good measure. Don't take my word for it though, try to figure it out yourself! It definitely feels and functions like a tritone sub for the G#7 on the next measure. Chorus is at m. 38, and it's real catchy. The chord progression there is like Cm9 - Abmaj7#11 - Fm9 - Dbmaj13#11 for the first part and Cm9 - Am9 - Fadd9 - G7sus for the second part, though the first iteration of it plays around with the progression by using Cm69 in place of the Abmaj7#11 and holding down a pedal C for the first two chords of both parts. Fundamentally it's a variation on a common progression, but the alterations present here makes it sound fresh and hip. Who doesn't like a little dose of chromatic mediants?The whole piece feels like it easily lends itself to be adapted to a jazz setting, what with the thick chords and all. I also really like the celtic-inspired melodic writing throughout, and with a harmonic environment that's rife with extensions, it does sound like a track that'll fit nicely in modern Fire Emblem games like Awakening and Fates. This is like a modern dance tune with a lot of jazz elements, which is a kind of music I'd like to hear more often.I should note that I altered the harmony in a couple of places. There's no clean recording of the original and I can't be bothered to precisely make out barely audible stuff, so might as well take some creative liberties. Still waiting on that soundtrack...

Here's something sweet and short for you.I just watched the season 3 opening animation, and as soon as I heard the piano, I realize that I have to write this one out. I feared that writing a piano arrangement was gonna be tricky since it's an e-guitar-heavy tune, but it turned out easier (and quicker) than expected.Anyway, this is probably my favorite opening so far. It's got a bunch of snazzy chords that wouldn't be out of place in jazz and really are a treat to the ears (or at least my ears). It has a bit of a darker feel than the other two, if only for the more "out there" harmony, though the melody shapes are pretty similar. People don't seem to like it as much, but maybe that'll change in future when the actual season's out.Also, that beginning with the piano, the rose, and Monty's name was well-coordinated, I'd say.Jeff Williams always writes fun tunes. I'm eager to hear the rest of the soundtrack!
Touhou 15 - Pure Furies ~ Whereabouts of the Heart (Piano Score) Nnwt 2015-08-15 | I knew that I'd eventually do to a Touhou tune! And this one's pretty ballin'. It has a few simple patterns that it repeats over and over but mixes them up well enough to not be completely boring. Sometimes I feel like ZUN's style is drifting away from my taste, so it's nice to hear something new I really enjoy from him. Dat 1:44 section is probably my favorite part. Harmonically, it's full of the usual 6-7-1 in minor with the 5 thrown in the mix at times. It does use that chromatically descending bass for it's main melody section, which I feel like he hasn't done a whole lot of (Reincarnation and Last Remote comes to mind), so it's welcomed sound.This was just supposed to be a simplified version of the song for piano, but I've taken a bit of liberty in the accompaniment and harmony of certain places just to keep things interesting. I also tried including as many of the voices from the original as two hands would permit. The main melody is mostly half/quarter notes, so that should help in playing multiple voices at once.As always, feel free to make whatever changes you feel convenient. BlazBlue: CP - Gluttony Fang II (Piano Score) Nnwt 2015-06-09 | Hazama's Theme from Chrono Phantasma transcribed/arranged for solo piano.This one is a doozy. Pretty fast tempo and quite a lot of runs. I included most of the guitar solos, but they don't *have* to be played as written. For 01:34 - 01:54, the recorded solo is in D Phrygian dominant, so you can either make something up using that scale or just use good old D minor/blues (or whatever you'd like, really). The other solo section (03:12 - 03:30) has a pretty clear harmony that you can infer from the surrounding notes.Gotta love those jazzy sections they added more of in the CP version.
