The Story of my Keyfob PerOculos 2022-05-29 | Couple things I forgot to mention! First is that when I took apart the original key itself, it had a chip inside. DO NOT LOSE THIS! It needs to be close to the ignition or your car won't start. Gabriel says that cars after year 2000 usually have this, so you're out of luck if you lose it. Reprogramming a new one can cost hundreds of dollars.He also recommends keeping a spare key in the gas cap, in a combination lock hitch vault, or somewhere more inconspicuous on your vehicle. If I were to have done this project earlier, I'd have gone to a hardware store with various machine screws, I'm sure I'd find something that sticks into the fob.
