For example, a difficult essay is white/black Pestilence decks, balancing what white does (making yourself gain life) with what black does (making yourself lose life.) But what do the colors do? Magic: The Gathering used to have cards such as Storm Seeker (direct damage to players for green.) Or, Bee Sting (direct damage for green.) Building a direct damage green deck is possible, it's just not what green does. The 5 wizards attack towns in order to cast the spell of Dominion (3 conquered towns of one color, or 5 if you have a magic ring) in order to gain power.Arzakon will betray them to use that power to destroy the world. You must destroy all five castles that the wizards live in to defeat them, which will summon Arzakon prematurely, so you are able to defeat him.Q: I thought I knew every card. What are these weird Magic cards?A : They're Astral cards. You can read about them here: mtg.gamepedia.com/Magic:_The_Gathering_(MicroProse)They're cards that don't work in real life because they change the game state randomly, which is something that only a computer can do. So don't worry if you don't know all the cards.Q: What are damage cards?A: Damage used to use "the stack" back in the 90s. It allowed for, say a Sakura-Tribe Elder to both block/kill a Savannah Lion and sac to search for a Forest. It was unbalanced so Wizards of the Coast removed it in later editions.Q: What is banding?A: Shandalar has a lot of banding creatures, and it's a keyword mechanic that takes a really long time to explain, scaring even magic judges from talking about it. A phase is a long unit of time in Magic: The Gathering, made up of several steps. Mana empties from the mana pool at the end of each phase, but not each step. At the end of each step, the opponent has a chance to respond, except for the untap step and cleanup step. The response must be at instant speed, meaning using creature ability, or casting an instant, or sacrificing a permanent to pay costs. For example, there is choosing attackers, fast effects: choosing attackers, choosing blockers, fast effects: choosing blockers, first strike damage, fast effects: first strike damage, normal damage, fast effects: normal damage.Mana now empties at the end of each step and each phase. This was really useful in the old days to sacrifice all your other permanents to Atog in order for him to survive a block and save up the mana to cast Fling during fast effects: deal damage.
