[CLASSICAL MUSIC] - Ariettes oubliées by Claude Debussy
Commons FliX 2018-11-02 | Ariettes oubliées (Forgotten Songs) L. 60 is a song cycle for voice and piano by Claude Debussy, based on a poem written by Paul Verlaine. The poetry of Paul Verlaine had a profund impact on Debussy: both were inspired by subtlety and nuance. Each man sought to innovate by using rhythm and tone color as the basis for a new form of a pre-existing art. In the Ariettes oubliées, subtlety, nuance, rhythm and tone color, converged to create a mature compositional style for Debussy, which, in turn, gave a heightened level of understanding to Verlaine's poetry. This collection of songs sets the tone for all of Debussy's future vocal compositions in terms of rhythm, harmony, tone, color and attention to poetic detail. 00:00 - C'est l'extase. 02:18 - Il pleure dans mon ceur. 05:23 - L'ombre des arbres. 07:55 - Paysages Belges (Chevaux de bois). 11:31 - Spleen, Green. #ClassicMusic - Preludes, Op. 28 by Frédéric #Chopin
Commons FliX 2018-10-12 | Frédéric Chopin wrote his Preludes, Op. 28, between 1835 and 1839, the year when the set was published. The cycle consists of 24 pieces for solo piano, one in each of the 24 keys (much like Bach's Well Tempered Clavier), and organized according to the circle of fifths. Chopin's preludes are carefully planned, self-contained miniatures which avoided the improvisatory feeling associated with the 'prelude' name. This led some critics to consider them incomplete pieces. Liszt, however, saw them as innovative and poetic. Although each work can stand alone, some scholars have suggested that the collection is one large work with twenty-four pieces, citing motivic connections among the preludes, and even musical connections from the ends of some preludes to the beginnings of others. Chopin never played all twenty-four in a row in a public performance. In fact, he never played more than four in concert. Neither did he give them evocative names, like Schumann and Liszt did for some of their pieces that were of a similar character. Hans von Bülow suggested some names for the preludes like Reunion, Tolling Bells, The Polish Dancer, and Raindrop. The preludes were dedicated to Camille Pleyel and Joseph Christoph Kessler. 00:00 - Nos. 1, 2, 3. 03:53 - Nos. 4 ,5, 6. 08:22 - Nos. 7 ,8, 9. 12:21 - Nos. 10, 11, 12. 16:43 - Nos. 13, 14. 18:35 - No. 15. 25:00 - Nos. 16, 17. 28:33 - Nos. 18, 19. 29:51 - Nos. 20, 21. 33:46 - Nos. 22, 23, 24. [CLASSICAL MUSIC] - La Mer by Claude Debussy
Commons FliX 2018-09-28 | La mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre (French for The sea, three symphonic sketches for orchestra), or simply La mer (i.e. The Sea), is an orchestral composition by Claude Debussy. Composed between 1903-5, it piece was initially not well received, but soon became one of Debussy's most admired orchestral works. La mer is scored for 2 flutes, piccolo, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinets, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 2 cornets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, tamtam, glockenspiel, 2 harps and strings. The work has proven very influential, and its use of sensuous tonal colours and its orchestration methods have influenced many later film scores. While the structure of the work places it outside of both absolute music and programme music as those terms were understood in the early 20th century, it obviously uses descriptive devices to suggest wind, waves and the ambience of the sea. But structuring a piece around a nature subject without any literary or human element to it - neither people, nor mythology, nor ships are suggested in the piece - also was highly unusual at the time. 00:00 - De laube a midi sur la mer. 09:20 - Jeux de vagues. 16:05 - Dialogue du vent et de la mer. [CLASSICAL MUSIC] - Cello Sonata by Claude Debussy
Commons FliX 2018-08-01 | The Cello Sonata is a late work by the French composer Claude Debussy. It was the first of a planned series of 'Six sonates pour divers instruments', however Debussy only completed two others, the sonata for violin and the sonata for flute, viola and harp. The sonata for cello and piano was written in 1915, and is notable for its brevity, most performances not exceeding 11 minutes. It is a staple of the modern cello repertoire and is commonly regarded as one of the finest masterpieces written for the instrument. The two final movements are joined by an attacca. Instead of sonata form, Debussy structures the piece in the style of the eighteenth-century monothematic sonata, and was particularly influenced by the music of François Couperin. The piece makes use of modes and whole-tone and pentatonic scales, as is typical of Debussy's style. It also utilises many types of extended cello technique, including left-hand pizzicato, spiccato and flautando bowing, false harmonics and portamenti. Not surprisingly, the piece is considered technically demanding. 00:00 - Prologue - lent. 04:45 - Serenade - Moderement anime. 08:20 - Finale - Anime. Performer: Paul Pitman.
