The most recent fire happened early Tuesday morning in a grassy area just behind the park, which is located near Power Inn Road and Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento. Fire officials said the fire burned two acres. Sacramento Fire Department spokesperson Justin Sylvia told KCRA 3 the other three fires near Granite Regional Park happened on June 4, June 13 and June 21. Sylvia said fire crews are concerned about the spread of the fires due the tall grass in the area paired with the hot and windy summertime conditions. While the cause of each of the four fires is “undetermined,” some in the area believe a homeless encampment near the park is to blame. KCRA 3 brought those concerns to fire officials.

Heres whyKCRA 32024-06-25 | The risk for new fires to spark in parts of Northern California is higher than normal on Tuesday. Meteorologist Tamara Berg said higher elevations in the Sierra may see stray showers and isolated thunderstorms. KCRA 3 is calling Tuesday an Impact Day specifically for the Sierra region because of the increased risk of wildfire. Because those thunderstorms are not going to be accompanied by rain — often called dry lightning — a stray lightning bolt could lead to a grass fire. The threat for thunderstorms decreases closer to sunset hours.
