Binaural relaxation film - Space for Relaxation

We The Curious 2022-10-10 | Since the first humans, we’ve felt a connection to the stars, dreaming of what might exist beyond our world. The stars, distant and eternal, are hypnotic. Looking towards them we allow our focus to drift - our sensitivity to the light slowly grows. The sky is set alight with a twinkling infinity.

In the modern world there are countless distractions that can sever this connection. With that in mind, we’ve created this ten minute relaxation aid. It joins calming space visuals with a bespoke binaural soundtrack created by musician Nick Bignall.

We recommend stereo headphones to fully enjoy the mesmerising effect of these calming space sounds. So, dim the lights, and find your Space for Relaxation.

Can you eat real food in space?

We The Curious 2022-10-04 | Astronauts have got to eat, right? But how exactly do astronauts cook in space and what might they eat?

As part of our ongoing ‘Hareclive in Space’ project with Bristol’s Room 13, the year 6 pupils of Hareclive E-Act academy have asked us another fantastically curious question: can we cook in space?

In this challenge, our Planetarium presenters Lydia and Paul will prepare a healthy, exciting meal whilst simulating the same conditions that would be faced by astronauts 420km above the Earth on the International Space Station.

What will they make? And will it be edible? Watch this fun challenge to find out!

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering – ‘how are meals are prepared in space’ – why not have a go at this challenge yourself? How would you cook a meal if everything in your kitchen was floating?

This could be an ideal fun space activity and science experiment for kids.

We The Curious 2022-03-18 | Flipbooks are amazing. Books of still images that look like they’re moving when flipped through. What could be simpler? And yet since the humble flipbook was patented in 1868, it’s paved the way for the invention of the films, TV, and computer games we know today.

Flipbooks are like animated movies you can carry in your pocket, and the best thing about them is they’re really easy to make. Learn how to make your own in this video!

WASP-121b: The Planet With an Atmosphere of Glowing Water (4K 360° view) | We The Curious

We The Curious 2017-08-02 | This 360° animation depicts planet WASP-121b; an exoplanet with an atmosphere of glowing water. It completes one full journey around its star every 1.3 days - this animation shows this orbit at x5000 speed.

With an atmosphere hot enough to boil iron, WASP-121b is a type of exoplanet known as a 'hot Jupiter'. The planet orbits closely to it's host star, located in the constellation of 'Puppis', about 900 light years away from Earth. Aimed to inspire the inventor in us all, The Tinkering Space is for creators, inventors, dreamers and anyone who’ve ever wanted to have a go at making something. The Tinkering Space enables visitors to turn their ideas into something they can touch, design and modify, and even rebuild elements of the space itself.

Opened on 23 July, the permanent exhibition will include a ‘Baxter’ robot (the first in a UK science centre), two 3D printers, an air table for testing flying devices, Shadow Theatres, make-your-own ball runs, and more.
