In that letter the Pope noted he had heard rumors of heresy and charged Tempier with the task of examining the source of these errors. Whats Wrong with Molinism? Idol Killer 2025-05-15 | Let's do a deep dive into the concept of Molinism and Middle Knowledge. Molinists affirm God has "Middle Knowledge", that for every metaphysically possible indeterministic scenario (one in which free creatures could choose differently) God supposedly has infallible, pre-volitional knowledge of what precisely would happen. This assumes that there is a single, determinate truth about how each creature would freely choose... even in indeterministic situations. But that’s a highly questionable assumption, since by definition, indeterministic scenarios allow for more than one possible outcome. If multiple outcomes are truly possible, there shouldn’t be one fixed fact about what would happen.Molinists claim that God uses this Middle Knowledge to choose to create a world where free creatures do exactly what He wants.I recently offered a critique of Molinism on Facebook, which prompted Tim Stratton of @FreethinkingMinistries to write an article in response.
