Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli masterclass 1959 documentary.
With Maner Lualdi (the journalist)
Couple of fun facts:
- Ludovico Lessona, according to many source, was probably the favourite pupil of Benedetti Michelangeli.
- Harasiewicz won the 1955 Chopin Competition, and in that year, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was in the jury, but he left the jury before the end of the competition in protest, because he thought that was Vladimir Ashkenazy who should have won the first prize.
At 26:32 you can hear Michelangeli humming Debussy's Clair de Lune and give some hints to the pianist (Isacco Rinaldi).
Then he plays two pieces
- Canción no. 6 from 12 Canciónes y Danzas by Federico Mompou
- Chopin waltz in E flat KK IVa/14 (spurious)

You can skip this part too, I've uploaded part 2 and 3 just for completeness.
In this part we see at the beginning Renzo Bonizzato and then there are the interviews to Benedetti Michelangeli's pupils.
Honestly you can skip this part, it's quite boring.
In this part are introduced the pupils of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli:
1) Paul Ayash;
2) Adam Harasiewicz;
3) Elias Lopez.
It's funny to notice that Harasiewicz has won the 1955 Chopin Competition.
In that year, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was in the jury, and he left the jury before the end of the competition in protest, because he thought that Ashkenazy deserved the first prize.
----------------------
1) Paul Ayash;
2) Adam Harasiewicz;
3) Elias Lopez.
Finally the part with Benedetti Michelangeli.
At the beginning you can hear Michelangeli humming Debussy's Clair de Lune and give some hint to the pianist (Isacco Rinaldi).
Then he plays two pieces:
- Canción no. 6 from 12 Canciónes y Danzas by Federico Mompou
- Chopin waltz in E flat KK IVa/14 (spurious)
-----------------
- Canción no. 6 dalle 12 Canciónes y Danzas di Federico Mompou
Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli 1959 documentary.
In this first part, Maner Lualdi (the journalist) interview some peolpe of Arezzo to introduce and to describe the masterclass of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
To notice that Ludovico Lessona, the pianist that we hear playing at the end of this video, was probally the favourite pupil of Benedetti Michelangeli (ABM really enjoyed his playing).
----------------------
