When Coleco was preparing to launch the then new Colecovision Console they were worried that consumers wouldn't abandon their Atari 2600 game collections for a newer console, so they stole it! Yes, Coleco (and also the Intellivision just saying) stole the design for the Atari VCS and sold an expansion module for the Colecovision that let it directly play Atari 2600 games. This caused a serious legal battle between Atari and Coleco to determine what was or wasn't allowed in the rules of a good ole console war. After the dust had settled Coleco released the Coleco Gemini, a fully standalone clone of the Atari VCS but, this time with permission form Atari! The early days of gaming were wild!
