The Carneddau Walks With Olly 2022-06-12 | Monday 28th March 2022This was my second walk from this trip to Snowdonia and the first of two walks I was determined to complete. I drove a short distance from Betws-y-Coed, along the A5 and in to the Ogwen Valley. Free parking is available in many places and I soon found myself walking up in to the Carneddau - across the valley from Tryfan and the Glyderau.I would scrambled up to Pen yr Ole Wen. Walk the ridge to Carnedd Dayfydd and then, continue on to Carnedd Llewelyn, the highest point. Exmoor: Simonsbath, River Barle, Wheal Eliza Walks With Olly 2021-09-20 | Sunday 22nd August 2021A long and challenging walk on Exmoor National Park in Somerset. I'd driven down with the intention of staying nearby for three nights of camping (at Halse Farm near Winsford). Car full loaded with kit; I made my way to Simonsbath, a short drive from Exford.This walk would take in many stretches of footpath that were new to me. Following the Two Moors Way south along the River Barle; passing Wheal Eliza cottage; making my way west to Five Burrows Hill and then on to Chains Barrow - after a failed attempt to get there a few years ago.I wouldn't necessarily recommend this route (17.2 miles - map available at the end of the video) with all the road walking required (something that's unheard of on Dartmoor) but it was a way for me to get about a see different places without otherwise driving in between. Bwlch with Altitude (and Mynydd Troed) Walks With Olly 2021-08-16 | Sunday 1st of August 2021This was a walk I'd been wanting to do for several years. Whenever I'd previously driven out to the Brecon Beacons, I'd favoured another walk entirely. My walk mostly follows the 12 mile "Bwlch with Altitude" circuit - with the addition of Mynydd Troed and a couple of extra miles at the end.I chose to start from Llangorse Lake, as I knew there'd be plenty of space to park and it's currently free to do so. Elsewhere, in villages like Bwlch, the parking options are at a bare minimal. Llangorse Lake happens to be the largest lake in mid and south Wales.I'm also aware that my videos have been getting longer and that I'm talking more in them. Elan Valley Walk (Cambrian Mountains) Walks With Olly 2021-07-12 | Friday 25th June 2021This was the main focal point of my long weekend in Shropshire; my first visit to and walk around the Elan Valley! I started just outside of Rhayader, from a signed car park for the Elan Valley Trail. A Long Walk to May Hill Walks With Olly 2021-07-04 | Thursday 24th June 2021I was going away for a long-weekend in Shropshire. As part of the journey and with the day to spare, I decided to stop off near the Forest of Dean for a walk. I haven't done many walks around this part of Gloucestershire. But, for a long time, I'd been wanting to visit May Hill - so often admired from a distance on my other walks, around the Cotswold Hills and along the Severn Way.I drew up a 12 mile route in OS Maps, sometime in 2019. Wick St. Lawrence Evening Walk Walks With Olly 2021-06-14 | Saturday 12th June 2021After work, I went out during the last hour of daylight for a local walk around Wick St. Lawrence. In North Somerset and just outside of Weston-super-Mare; this walk would follow part of a former light railway line. Neuadd Horseshoe Walk #BreconBeacons (Four Peaks) Walks With Olly 2021-06-07 | Tuesday 1st of June 2021My first visit to Wales since October 2020! As it was a weekday (and hopefully less busy than on a sunny weekend), I decided to head for the central Brecon Beacons and take on the four peaks of the 'Neuadd Horseshoe': Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big. It's a 9-10 mile long circuit with a lot of ascent. Shipham to Draycott (West Mendip Way #3) Walks With Olly 2021-06-01 | Monday 10th May 2021My third walk in this series following the West Mendip Way across Somerset. I resumed the walk from Shipham, dropped down in to Rowberrow Warren, climbed up and passed Black Down, on towards Cheddar Gorge and then as far as Draycott Sleights, before I would loop back towards the start.In all, this was just over 15 miles and a good warm up for Sunday's Mendip Challenge (30 miles). Post-Vaccine Walk (Priddy, Mendip Hills) Walks With Olly 2021-05-22 | I'm pleased to say that I have received my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I was quite surprised when the invitation came through - I'm in my mid-thirties, at a time where they were generally only vaccinating people in their early forties. But I'm not one to turn away from something that is for the greater good of us all.I had to drive and visit a non-local medical practice and so, I decided to carry on a bit further afterwards and go for a walk while I was out. Bleadon Hill to Shipham (West Mendip Way #2) Walks With Olly 2021-04-12 | On the first day post-Lockdown 3.0, I drove a short distance to the top of Bleadon Hill and resumed my walking along the West Mendip Way. This leg would take in Crook Peak, Wavering Down and reach as far as Shipham, before looping back across countryside via Winscombe and the outskirts of Banwell.
