Unite The Kingdom rally tribute | Incredible day | Thank you Tommy Robinson

Old Wild And Free 2025-09-21 | The Unite The Kingdom rally, was the first protest march or rally that I have attended, and what a fantastic day it was for all the patriots of this great nation. I have been a supporter of Tommy Robinson's work for about 8 years now, and felt that I should kick my arse, get on the train from Plymouth, and show my support behind this great patriotic movement.
Freedom of Speech isn't a right, you have to fight for it.
Democracy isn't a right, you have to fight for it.
Saving your nation from the woke ideology, the ideology of Islam and the Globalist ideology (open borders, mass immigration, etc.)
It sickens me that we have become a soft touch for mass immigration, even worse, illegal immigration, this has to stop.
"Kerr Starmer's a wanker" was shouted many times, but that was the only abuse I saw on the whole rally, and lets be honest, he deserves it.
I witnessed no violence, the crowd was well behaved, joyous and proud.
I cannot speak for everybody, but I can assure you, this movement is not about racism or fascism like the left and media like to paint it. WE do not want people here if they are illegals, don't work hard and do not respect our laws and culture.

Of the speeches, 99% was very good and fair, 1% I didn't agree with.
The music was uplifting.
My two fantastic surprises was
1) Ben Habib entering the arena. He comes across as a very genuine politician, and as soon as I heard he started a new political party, AdvanceUK, I was in. I voted for Reform at the last election, but since the shenanigans and softness towards Islam, I have lost respect for Farage and his party. I also respect highly Rupert Lowe, and what he is trying to achieve with the movement Restore. But would love to see him team up with Ben.
2) An even bigger surprise was seeing Tommy interview Elon Musk. He was very articulate about the situation we find ourselves in.

The crowd was easily in excess of 500,000, maybe even double that. The next one will be even bigger for sure. Congratulations to all who who made this day possible.

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR - ALICANTE - SPAIN

Old Wild And Free 2025-03-01 | A great little adventure for Helene and I.
We spent two weeks climbing in the Spanish area of Alicante, culimating in the climbing route called the Magical Mystery Tour. It involves a 45m abseil, mostly suspended. Followed by a traverse of climbing grades from 2 to 4+, and then two grade 5 pitches which was just within our comfort zone.

Greenlaning in North Devon with Ken. Is he too old for this game?

Old Wild And Free 2025-02-15 | Last September I went out greenlaning with Ken. At the time he had some serious health issues, so there was a concern if he could manage. I'am glad to see he did.
The following week, we went out on another trip. He took me up a rather serious hill that he used to do when he was doing trials comps. It totally knackered my clutch. I still havnt had my bike back from the garage, problems, problems.
It took me a while to produce this video as I lost a bit of interest. But I've had few people jolt me back into action.

ENDURO TRACK PLAYDAY WITH A HIMALAYAN 411

Old Wild And Free 2024-07-13 | I attended an Enduro playday on a farm near Totnes/Devon. The event was organised by Endurocks. A local company based in Bridgewater, who organises events like these, for beginners and pros. They also run enduro race days, and had there first Adventure Bike Festival last year, which i enjoyed very much. THE PLAYDAY event was well put together, and every one involved was very welcoming and helpful, especially the marshall who got me out of a few scrapes, and was instrumental in getting my front brake repaired.
I had a tough time to say the least, but i gained some valuable experience. Unfortunately, i lost all brake fluid to my front brake, so wasnt able to finish a complete lap.
I dont blame the Himalayan for anything, I struggled with its weight on a few occasions, but if i was a better rider, the enduro course would of posed no problems.
The next time I try, I will certainly remove my wing mirrors and drop the tyre pressures to 10psi.

TESTING PRIOR TO ENDURO TRACK DAY / HIMALAYAN 411 / CORNISH TET

To do this I had a fairly short ride on a Wednesday afternoon along the Cornish Trans Euro Trail.
I was not feeling particularly confident or adventurous this day, but a short adventure I had anyway.

Old Wild And Free 2024-06-22 | KNOBBIES FOR THE FIRST TIME. As I'am getting more into roadbook rallies, I have opted for a more off-road biased tyre, instead of my trusted Mitas E07's. I went for the fairly new on-road 20/80 off-road MITAS ENDURO TRAIL XT+, which replaces the famous E13 front and the equally well known E09's.
I ride part of the greenlaning route called the Dartmoor Loop, experiencing deep mud, rivers, slippery steep inclines and gravel.
I'am pleased to say, that I'am very happy with the results.

MY FIRST ROADBOOK RALLY | GREENLANES OF NORTH DEVON | R E HIMALAYAN 411

Old Wild And Free 2024-05-22 | MY FIRST ROADBOOK RALLY, HELD ON THE GREENLANES OF NORTH DEVON. WHAT A SHARP LEARNING CURVE IT WAS.
I have been greenlaning on my ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN for the past three years, but this rally was a real step up as far as navigation is concerned.
The first time I see a roadbook, is 10 mins before I set off. I made many navigational errors, partly through riding too fast, but mostly because I didn’t understand the navigation traps. I sure understood them towards the end.
This roadbook rally was organised by an enthusiast called Tim Redman, who also worked in the background of The Roadbook Project, which has created a roadbook app which I used called TRBP Navigator App.
There were two route choices, 10 riders in each, a long one for more experience riders of 264km, and a short one of 148km. I am so glad I picked the short one, it was 3 times longer than any greenlaning session I have done before.
Start and finish at Torrington Common, North Devon.
A fabulous experience. I do have a competitive nature, so I would not be able to slow down enough to read the navigation correctly, so I am hoping to get some roadbooks to practice with before entering a roadbook rally in future.

IMPRESSIVE RED FORT | DELHI | PART 13 | INDIAN MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE

Old Wild And Free 2024-04-10 | WE FINISH OUR TOUR OF INDIA ON A HIGH, BY VISITING THE IMPRESSIVE RED FORT IN DELHI.
The Red Fort or Lal Qila is a historic fort in Delhi, that served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. The architect also built the Taj Mahal. It took just over 8 years to build.
Most of the artwork and jewels were plundered by the invasion of Nadar Shah. And 80% of the marble structures were demolished by the British following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. They used the fortress as a garrison, and built many buildings in replacement.
Some of the relics are still with museums in London, where the Indian government have tried to get them returned, unsuccessfully.
Our trip to India, although we had some good moments, overall it was very disappointing. For the first two weeks of our trip, we struggled to see views of the mountains due to jungle, but the most disappointing aspect was the pollution and litter problem, hence why we left India a month early, and shall probably never return.
At the end of the video, we show a glimpse of our next adventure.

After deciding we had enough of India, we travel 400km to the edge of Delhi, fight our way to our hotel near the airport. What a crazy experience.
The following day, we travel 37km through Delhi to return the bikes we hired. The driving experience will never be forgotten, and neither were the things we saw.
Will we ever visit India again? I doubt it very much.

The Good- a pleasant ride from Udaipur to Mount Abu.

We were so disappointed and disgusted with Mount Abu and India as a whole, that we decided to return home, even though we had a month left of our trip.

We visit a Portugese speaking fishing village, called Korlai, Korlai Fort and Lighthouse.
We were staying in the village of Revdanda, the beach was the worst and busiest we've seen. Littered to bits.

Old Wild And Free 2024-02-28 | We leave behind a lovely beach on the Goa coast, famous as a turtle reserve, to the filthiest beach that we have come across, 100km south of Mumbai.
We became bored of the Great Indian Trail, so we headed towards Rajasthan in as short a route as possible, passing through the state of Maharashtra. The views certainly got better, but the traffic got more mental. Sometimes, the crazy riding experience was the best experience
We tried to do the touristy thing, and visit a popular waterfall, only to be very disappointed.

Old Wild And Free 2024-02-14 | A BIKERS DREAM I called this part of the trail. Quiet roads, hair pin bends, beautiful scenery, varied plant life, lots of monkeys and tiger reserves. We head north from Ooty through the lovely state of Karnataka. We had a lovely stay in a mud hut, surrounded by jungle, reminiscent of Jungle Book. But my reference to Jungle Book in the video is due to the characters in the book.

St Just | CORNISH TRANS EURO TRAIL | ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN

Old Wild And Free 2023-10-29 | First greenlaning weekend together away for a while, turns into a big dissapointment.
We decide to head for St Just, near Penzance deep into Cornwall, on a Saturday afternoon. Was hoping to find a nice wild camping spot as we return home along the Cornish Trans Euro Trail.
That evening my bike broke down, spark plug died yet again, only done about 400 miles on this one.
A local biker called Lewis helped us get to a campsite.
I tried to fit a new spark plug that evening, seems like I damaged the thread. Next morning, a garage managed to fit the new spark plug.
We set off again, broke down one mile later, then got towed back home.
I have had and issue with spark plugs not lasting, since our time in Morocco. The problem has only got worse. Tried Iridium plugs, didn't work. Turns out, not only had the head gasket blown, but the cylinder head is not flat enough to make it airtight, so a replacement from India is on order. This is the reason why the engine was running too hot and burning through the plugs.

Old Wild And Free 2023-10-22 | Should you take a folding saw while greenlaning? This video has the answer.
Today I attempted a part of a Dartmoor Loop. Didn’t get as far as I was hoping, as I not only had a crash, I was faced with a fallen tree that I struggled with to remove . Twenty minutes later, I decided my only option was to walk to the nearest farm to borrow a saw. 2kms later, I took another twenty minutes cutting through the tree with a rusty old saw.
When I returned home, I swiftly bought a foldable saw on Amazon. I won’t be without it from now on.

Old Wild And Free 2023-08-13 | WHAT ABOUT MY COFFEE????? My friend ken and I had a great time when we met up with a group of adventure bike greenlaners, called Devon Trax Trail Riders, run by a keen enthusiast called Steve Payne.
Look for his FB page if you are interested in joining. Steve has also organised a 10 hour rally for the end of August. It’s a damn shame I can’t attend, as it is something I would off loved to try. Will have to wait for another chance.
Apart from the very first greenlaning experience I had, this green laning experience with a bunch of experienced trail riders was a blast. I have never experienced such intensity for so long. A great time.

Old Wild And Free 2023-08-04 | HIMALAYAN SUSPENSION UPGRADE TESTED ON ENDURO TRACK at The Adventure Bike Show in North Somerset.
The Adventure Bike Show run by EnduRocks Events was their first event geared towards ADV bikes, although plenty of enduro riders turned up for the fun. Sunday was a wash out, weather turned bad, so we left early. But Saturday was fine enough to allow me to test my Cooperb Himalayan Lifting Kit, which includes a Hagon rear shock absorber, and a bespoke made front shock lifting rings. This has given me a 40mm extra ground clearance. I also had 15W fork oil to replace the old 10W front fork oil.
As you will see, I was very pleased with the investment that I had made.

DAMN ESTATES AND THEIR PRIVATE ROADS~South Devon coastal ride~Interesting Places

Old Wild And Free 2023-07-23 | Annoyingly, we came across many private roads on our South Devon coastal ride, especially around the Erme River, where 5,000 acres of land is owned by the Fleet Estate. But we still came away visiting three lovely areas that we would like to share.
Firstly, an old historic church, some parts over 1,000 years, called St Peters the Poor Fishermans Church, situated on a peaceful caravan site at Revelstone Park. Yep, owned by the Estate.
We then visit a beautiful part of the Erme River, where we were hoping to ride along a track close by. This was forbidden, but managed to get some lovely drone footage of the area.
At the end, we discover a wonderful beach near the River Erme Estuary, on the other side. Still owned by the Fleet Estate, but at least this was opened to the public. Wonwell Beach.

NORTH DEVON TRAILS and WILD CAMPING~Royal Enfield Himalayan~Sinnis Terrain 125

Old Wild And Free 2023-07-16 | Helene and I travel up to North Devon with our camping gear, and meet the old timer Ken, who guides us around the huge plethora of green lanes. After a lay off of trail riding for 4 weeks and a heavy, tiring work load, Helene needed some easier lanes, and Ken obliged, but not without any dramas.
At the end of the day we wild camped on the cliffs of NORTH DEVON, near a town called Ilfracombe, just off the coastal trail called Langley Lane.

This series is about our GREENLANING PROGRESSION, a step up from the first series called TOTAL BEGINNER TO GREENLANER, sharing our experience and knowledge we gain, plus showing off the wonderful British countryside.
Helene and I have just returned from our First Motorcycle Adventure. Beforehand, neither of us knew if we would enjoy it, or would want to do it again. It was 2 months of adventure, one week through France, 6 weeks in Morocco, then a week travelling through Portugal and Spain on the Trans Euro Trail. It was amazing, we sure will do it again.
Helene rides a Sinnis Terrain 125, her very first motorbike, and I ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan, my first motorcycle in 35 years.

Old Wild And Free 2023-07-02 | Testing myself and machine on technical routes in North Devon with Ken.
Never far from an interesting greenlane, wether its ruts, steep gnarly inclines or declines, water trails with deep undergrowth, and a rather interesting man-made stepped trail. Some trails were easier and longer, but in this instance I was able to ride at a faster speed to keep the adrenaline going, and live on the edge trying to push myself a nd bike further and further.
I finished off with a second attempt of High Bray, a famous trials bike hill. First attempt was a few weeks back with little success.
In summary, as my abilities and experience improves, THE ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN still has more to give. It will be a long time before I out perform this fabulous machine.

Famous motorcycle enthusiast T E LAWRENCE, alias LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, would of loved the Dakar Rally

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-25 | I take with me, the memory of one of the greatest motorcycling enthusiasts of all time as i ride the Trans Euro Trail of Cornwall.
Easily in the top ten best films ever made, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was about a character called T E Lawrence.
When I was young, I remember watching the film, and I was in awe of this person. I had a question in my head, why did this guy love the desert?
At the beginning of the film, you see T E Lawrence, having a fatal motorbike accident. And as we will discover, it was that crash, that indirectly, is why we all wear crash helmets now.
So the film starts off with him dying, then goes back to the days when he was in the military during the First World War, which is what made him so famous.
Apparently, he was travelling the police say about 100 mph, through lanes like this in Dorset, on this bike, his seventh Brough Superior, which he called George VII. It’s worth over one million pounds, so it is one of the most expensive motorcycles in the world, and probably one of the most romantic motorcycles in the world as some people have said.
Apparently he swerved to avoid two children on push bikes, hit a dip in the road, went over his handlebars, and because he was not wearing a helmet, he suffered fatal head injuries.
There was an Australian neurosurgeon called Hugh Cairns, who tried for six days to save T E Lawrence’s life. After his death, Hugh Cairns done a huge amount of research. Conclusion, helmets would drastically save lives.
By the end of this video, I wanted to know, would Colonel Lawrence of liked greenlaning, and would, if the Dakar Rally was around in the twenties and thirties, would he of been able to say NO? Because, he was asked why he didn’t do racing on the track, as he would have been good enough. But he said, as he was so famous, he would have been expected to win, and I don’t think he would have liked that pressure.
In 1922, he bought the first of seven Brough Superior SS100’s. They were a 1,000cc, the Royals Royce of motorcycles back in those days. They were hand made, put together, run in, then taken apart again, then painted and chromed, put together again. Apparently, the owner, George Brough rode every motorcycle made, to a speed of 100mph, which was the bench mark. First production motorcycle to go over 100mph.
Lawrence called his bikes Boanerges, which is an Aramaic term for Gods Of Thunder. He named his bikes after the owner and friend George Brough, so the first was called George I, all the way up to when he died on George VII, and there was a George VIII in production before he died.
The modern day Brough motorcycle manufacturing company has been moved to France, next to an aeronautical company. They use state of the art materials including carbon fibre and metals like Titanium.
In the old days, Brough motorcycles were the price of a house. Today you are looking at a minimum of £50,000. They have brought out recently some limited editions, named after T E Lawrence. The Lawrence Original. The Lawrence Nefud and The Lawrence Dagger.
Lawrence joined the Intelligence Corp of the British Army, posted to Egypt. He became very useful to the British and French, as they wanted Arab armies to help in defeating the Ottomans. Lawrence knew the Arabs, and he was so key in joining together, otherwise warring tribes, to have a common goal and a common enemy.
T E Lawrence and his Arab friends, the British//French were able to defeat the Ottoman Empire, but the promise of an Arab homeland in Syria was not adhered to. The British and French instead, signed a pact, called the Sykes-Picot Agreement, which basically meant they would divide the spoils of war between them.
Lawrence loved speed on his motorbikes, lucky for him there were no speed limits at that time, and he would time himself when he commuted to London from his home in Dorset. If speed limits were around then, would he have tried greenlaning, because you are a little bit freer, and it is not just about speed, but technicality also. Surely, the romance and adventure of the Dakar Rally if it was around in the 20’s and 30’s would od been a big lure for him. He was asked why he didn’t try track racing, as he was good enough. His reasoning why he didn’t was that he was so famous, that he would be expected to win, and I don’t feel he would have liked that pressure.
After our four day trip through the Moroccan desert, I had an appreciation for the desert and its people, so now I understood Lawrence. And as he loved speed and freedom, there is no better place to ride a motorcycle. He would have loved the Dakar Rally.

First attempt at ANGEL STEPS~SINNIS TERRAIN 125~ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN~TRAIL RIDING

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-21 | Welcome back to GREENLANING PROGRESSION where we try to become more confident, and experience more technical routes. Today we head out to the small village of Chillaton to try for the first time, the steep ,slippery Angel Steps. We were not feeling up for it, due to tiredness from work, but gave it a go anyway.
We tried it with normal road tyre pressure, but will surely lower them on the second attempt.

Helene and I have just returned from our First Motorcycle Adventure. Beforehand, neither of us knew if we would enjoy it, or would want to do it again. It was 2 months of adventure, one week through France, 6 weeks in Morocco, then a week travelling through Portugal and Spain on the Trans Euro Trail. It was amazing, we sure will do it again.
Helene rides a Sinnis Terrain 125, her very first motorbike, and I ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan, my first motorcycle in 35 years.

SPANISH TRANS EURO TRAIL~HOMEWARD BOUND FROM OUR MOROCCO TRIP

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-18 | Final episode from our Morocco trip. We have a taste of the Spanish TET or Trans Euro Trail of Spain south of Santander.
It was nice to finish with a bit of greenlaning after a boring 400km ride on main roads through Spain, to ensure we did not miss our ferry from Santander to Plymouth.
It was worth the extra effort, lots of varying conditions from muddy ruts to gnarly slippery rock, but always beautiful views.
Ferry got cancelled for a day due to bad weather in the Atlantic and English Channel, which gave us chance to explore the beautiful Santander coastline.
The last two months has been a wonderful adventure. A week travelling through France, followed by 7 weeks in Morocco, and finally a week tasting some of the Portuguese and Spanish Trans Euro Trails.
We had no idea if a long motorcycle adventure would suit us, but it has. In Jan\March 2024 we will be off on our motorcycle adventures yet again. Where? We don’t know, but it will have to be able to top Morocco. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated.
Now that we are home, we will continue to greenlane when Helene isn’t working a weekend. This new series is called GREENLANING PROGRESSION.
On other weekends I have set up another series called SUBSCRIBER GREENLANING DAYS. I either hope to encourage newcomers to greenlaning to have a go, or ride with more experienced riders who can teach me a few things, and push me out of my comfort zone.
For newcomers to the channel, I’am riding a Royal Enfield Himalayan with 2.5 years motorcycling experience. Helene is riding her very first bike, a Sinnis Terrain 125, with only 5 months previous experience.
In our series TOTAL BEGINNER TO GREENLANER, we see Helene go from learning to control a bike in a car park, to reaching a fairly decent standard of green laning in the UK, basically off-road but on roads if you catch my drift. All done on road tyres which makes her achievements even greater.

ULTIMATE ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLING FREEDOM~MENTAL MONSANTO HILL CLIMB~HOMEWARD-BOUND part 3

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-14 | THERE ARE THREE STAGES TO ULTIMATE ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLING FREEDOM. First stage, just being on a motorbike gives you a sense of freedom. Second stage, when you are on the trails, it increases your sense of freedom. Then there is the third stage, if you want more freedom, then wild camp, that is the ultimate. The ultimate of feeling free. And that is part of what this channel is all about. It don’t matter if you are old, you can be young or old. Just live a little bit wilder, and live as free as possible.
Homeward bound after a seven week adventure in Morocco.
A dodgy slippery start for the morning as we head along the the Portuguese Trans Euro Trail towards the incredible Monsanto village, perched high on a very bouldery hill. It should be a haven for rock climbers.
The approach to the summit on the TET is mental. More like a steep, winding, rocky walking path. But it was well worth it, Monsanto village is a very beautiful place, with a lovely castle on the peak of the hill.

DANGERS ON PORTUGESE TRANS EURO TRAIL~HOMEWARD-BOUND part 2~adventure motorcycling

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-11 | FESH FESH, MORE MUD, MORE RIVER CROSSINGS, AN ANNOYING CYCLING RACE AND DANGEROUS TRAILS, all part of the Portuguese Trans Euro Trail, lovely jubbly.
Homeward-bound after a seven week adventure in Morocco.
The morning, aswell as the evening before, we were met with roads that seemed to be covered in fine sand or Fesh Fesh, which made conditions very awkward at times, especially in deep patches. My struggles may of been highlighted due to very damaged head Stock bearings, which I only found out about after we got home. I had issues with steering since the rides in the desert. Yes, the bearings were full of sand.
We pass through a town called Portalegre. I fell in love with a tree in the centre of town, but hated the long wait in the hot sun, for a cycle race to pass by, so that we could exit the town.
We end the day wild camping at the base of dam, very nice, and lots of wood to fuel the fire.

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-07 | We come across river crossings, deep muddy ruts, gnarly hills and aggressive dogs.
We are leaving Sagres in the South West tip of Portugal, after spending a seven week adventure in Morocco, and pick up the Portuguese Trans Euro Trail on our way home. TET for short. A bit like greenlaning, but in drier conditions than when we left the UK.
The Trans Euro Trail is a great way to see the countryside, passing through small farming communities, far from touristy locations. The scenery was was fairly flat but beautiful.

Old Wild And Free 2023-06-04 | AN AWESOME 7 WEEKS TRAVELLING THROUGH MOROCCO finally comes to an end.
Today we leave the Hippy City Chefchouen, and head over the Rif Mountains to Morocco’s Mediterranean coastline, which we follow until we reach the small Spanish headland of Ceuta. We take the ferry from there to Algecias, Spain. Take a tedious journey along the motorway to the Portugese border, and head for Sagres.
It was the end of a fabulous trip around Morocco. We highly recommend visiting Morocco, wether by motorcycle, car or camper van, whatever, you are sure to have an amazing experience.

SIMMS HILL~FAILURE…GIVE UP or PUSH YOURSELF TO A HIGHER LEVEL~GREENLANING PROGRESSION Eps 3

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-31 | A bad, confidence shattering start for Helene as we attempt the descent of Simms Hill. A bad enough start, to make her wonder why she is greenlaning at all. The fun had gone, she felt like giving up.
But in true Helene fashion, she hates the feeling of failure. So she carried on, and pushed herself to a higher level.
We planned a route around the village of Ilsington in Devon where there are some decent trails in one area, and planned to do the route in reverse also, to get the most out of these lanes.
Helene done superbly descending and ascending a rather gnarly hill called Tenda Lane, and finished off with a tremendous effort back up the very steep, slippery, gnarly Simms Hill.

So, there is a lesson from this episode. Failure, the feeling of failure, what can it do? It can make you feel like giving up. It can take the pleasure away from what you are doing.
Or, if you are stubborn, and hate the idea of failure, you can turn it around, and push yourself to a higher level, and that is what happened today.
A part of pleasure is achieving. If you give up, what is the pleasure in that?

CHEFCHOUEN, THE HIPPY CITY~MOROCCO part 23~Royal Enfield himalayan~Sinnis Terrain 125

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-28 | We leave Fez and head to Chefchouen, the Hippy City, the Blue City.
I talk about some of the hassle we experienced in Fez, and what we have learned for future travels.
If I complain about any cities in Morocco, it’s because I don’t like cities anyway, where ever they are. But it is interesting to visit never the less, you get to see the other side of life. Both me and Helene prefer village life.
Between Fez and Chefchouen it very green and pleasant, with a huge amount of arable land, so no wonder cities have congregated in this area.
Then we come across the beautifful Rif mountains before arriving in Chefchouen.
There are lots of different theories as to why Chefchouen is painted blue. Some locals will say it is a mosquito repellent, I’m not so sure about that. Some say it is to keep the city cool, I’m not so sure about that. Apparently there were Jewish settlers here after the Second World War, of course the Jewish flag is blue and white, and it is traditional for Jewish people to the colour blue for decorations, and maybe the interior and exterior of places, as it resembles the sky, heaven, and reminds everyone to keep a spiritual mindset.
Chefchouen was very pleasant and pretty, and well worth a visit.

This is a new series about Greenlaning Days with Subscribers. If you are a seasoned pro, you can teach me a few things, and push me out of my comfort zone. If you are a total beginner, and you would like to give it a go, then I can teach you a few things, and push you out of your comfort zone. At the same time, showcasing our beautiful British countryside.
You don’t have to be old, but if you are a little bit wild, and have a free spirit, that will go a long way.
Today, I’am travelling up to North Devon to meet Ken for a greenlaning adventure. His words, not mine. He was damn right. One particular route called ‘High Bray’, which is famously used for trials competitions. It was the gnarliest hill that I have experienced ascending.
I speak about a few subjects like ‘What is the meaning of life’, and tell a story about why I could not have my first motorcycle adventure over the last 3 years, that includes a very controversial subject.
One freaky thing happened during our adventure, we rode into a swam of bees, something neither of has ever experienced.

HASSLE IN FEZ~oldest synagogue in MOROCCO part 22~ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN~SINNIS TERRAIN 125

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-21 | HASSLE, hassle and more hassle in fez, most of it was through our own ignorance, but before that.
You could definately feel the difference now heading towards Fez, a lot more speed signs, a lot more police. I even saw yesterday a hand held speed camera. Yes, a lot more control, not like being int he mountains or in the desert. A lot less freedom, but still pleasant though.
We had terrible trouble finding the hotel we booked in the old town of Fez. We did not know that there was no traffic in the Medina. We tried to avoid help, because we knew most people would want money in return., and they always wanted over the odds. But in the end we succumbed to receiving help from one young chap, then there were three. At the end they expected to be paid a high price for all three of them. We were in a corner, and managed to haggle a compromise. I was really annoyed with myself, if only we stopped outside the hotel to ask the owner how much we should pay in front of the young men. The owner said, we paid far too much, lesson learned.
We then tried to be tourist for an evening in Fez Medina, but unsuccessfully, that is part of the reason I branded us The Worlds Worst Tourists. So we got out of the Medina and headed towards the oldest synagogue in Morocco, which was a delight. It was restored in 1998.
The Jewish community left Fez after Israel was formed, but there are two families still living in the new city, but frequently visit the synagogue.
In the UK, and other parts of the world, guys go out to the pub to have conversations with their mates. A the end of the night, they are too pissed to remember what they were talking about earlier on in the day. But these guys hear, and the guys that come out to the coffee and tea shops, over here and in other countries where alcohol is banned, they drink for hours drinking tea and coffee. The thing is, the next day they can remember what they were talking about the day before, how cool is that?

WILD CAMPING FEARS~STEALTH CAMPING GOES WRONG~MOROCCO part 21~First Motorcycle Adventure

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-19 | It was bit of an exciting night last night, anyway, before then, while we were having a meal, me and Helene decided that, we’ve done with wild camping now, really enjoyed it, thoughoughly enjoyed the experience. We are only about an hour away from Fez, so we thought, we will pop into Fez, spend a day and a night there, in a hotel, and then go to Chefchouen after that for a couple of days.
Then whip up to Tangier, take the ferry across to Tarifa, and then head across to Portugal.
We’ve had many different wild camping experiences, we try and wild camp as stealthily as possible. So we camp in the hope that no one is watching, but that has never happened, guaranteed, all over Morocco, there are Shepards with there flocks of sheep. They will return home after a day out with there sheep, that has always happened, majority of the time there are dogs barking, but that is fine’s long as they are not too close.
A couple of days ago, we were in a nice spot, we thought we were safe, a few people got to see that we were there, no matter how well we tried to hide. So you always worry about someone knowing you are there, then they tell someone, then someone, then some guy might want to cause trouble. But that has never happened, but it is always in the back of your mind.
But what happened two nights ago, that I didn’t say before, where we were parked with our tent and camp, there was a road that went around the bridge, around a bend. So if a car came down either way, there would be a lot of headlights on our tent. But we didn’t think of that. We got to bed, then it seemed like there were lots of flashlights shinning on the tent, and that made us panic. So I’m thinking some nut case wants to kill you. You think of the worst.
I have a powerful head torch, and thought, if I can get out of the tent, my powerful head torch could blind someone, it’s like having a weapon.
But when I poked my head out of the tent, I had this image of someone knocking me on the head. I got out the tent, done the flashlight thing, and said to Helene “it’s got to be cars”.
So, last night, we rode around this lake, it looked like a popular spot for people to picnic, so we didn’t get our tent out straight away, we left it until dusk. We set up the tent, then a flock of sheep walked by with their shepherd, then eight horseman rode by. We still felt really safe here, we got into bed at 10.30pm. We’ve had problems falling asleep due to an active mind. It was 11pm, we were just about to fall asleep, then a vehicle came driving through the woods, they stopped in front of us, with their lights shinning on our tent.
I thought, it’s got to be the police. I opened the tent, and it was the police, there were three policeman. They came over to us and said “it is forbidden to camp here”. “We need you to move”. It was 11pm at night, and we explained to them that we were so tired, so they took our passports, took the numbers of our motorbikes, done the checks.
They were nice, especially the one who was speaking to us, he sp[oke a little English, but spoke in French to Helene in more detail. We explained that we were here for one night, and we were just passing through, they said “ we are worried about your safety’, but we didn’t say we just spent the last two week stealth camping in Morocco. Anyway, they allowed us to stay the night, and we had a really good sleep.

NOT FEELING IT TO FEELING GREAT~GREENLANING PROGRESSION Eps 2~SINNIS TERRAIN 125

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-17 | This new series will be about our GREENLANING PROGRESSION, a step up from the first series called TOTAL BEGINNER TO GREENLANER, sharing our experience and knowledge we gain, plus showing off the wonderful British countryside.
Helene and I have just returned from our First Motorcycle Adventure. Beforehand, neither of us knew if we would enjoy it, or would want to do it again. It was 2 months of adventure, one week through France, 6 weeks in Morocco, then a week travelling through Portugal and Spain on the Trans Euro Trail. It was amazing, we sure will do it again.
Helene rides a Sinnis Terrain 125, her very first motorbike, and I ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan, my first motorcycle in 35 years.
Today we join the Tavistock greenlaning route in Devon, some of the trails we have done before, but we now wish to try them again, and improve our skills. Plus Helene attempts a hill climb that she didn’t fancy before, but after the experience in Morocco, she wishes to attempt it.
The day started not so good, Helene did not feel it, so we then started an easier section, ending in a triumphant manor.
We experiment for the first time lowering our tyre pressures.
Helene now works every other weekend, so I have now started another series called SUBSCRIBER GREENLANING DAYS. You can be a greenlaning hotshot, or a total beginner.

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-14 | Heading through the Kneifa National Park, towards Ifrane, which Mohammed, our guide through the desert said, was the cleanest town in Morocco in the whole of Morocco. Lots more conifers, and sometimes an interesting trail. People and their animals make it interesting, let alone the landscape.
On the way, we spend some time in Our Er Rabia, famous for its waterfalls and spring. A little too touristy for us, but still a very pleasant visit, with plenty of restaurants selling tagines close to the beautiful river.
People who own a Royal Enfield Himalayan, may of seen their promotional video. Don’t know if it came out a year ago, or two years ago. But I will leave the link in the top righthand corner to the video, because, I think it is a wonderful advert. Basically, they try and say what the Royal Enfield Himalayan is all about. But, every time I watch it, it makes me emotional, because, there is a huge amount of meaning in the video. And mine and Helene’s trip around Morocco, has been exactly what that video gives you. Whoever built this town must have had OCD, because every house looks the same. At the moment it looks quite clinical. Ifrane, we are not going to stop here, because it looks far too much like a brand new housing estate, which is not our cup of tea, no character. And if it is the cleanest town in Morocco, it’s probably because it ain’t old enough to get dirty.

Saddlebags 73, has been a huge supporter of this channel, mentioned us a few times on his Midweek Mutterings series, and always leave a great comment. Cheers mate.
So I only thought it was fitting, that I turn up and show support for his annual social ride. I was a little anxious as I am an introvert, have never done this before, never been good in large crowds, and prefer deep one on one conversations.
So, the question is, did I manage the whole ride?
Obviously not, as in the thumbnail I say “why I left early” lol.
It was worth going, to show my face, meet a few subscribers, many were Royal Enfield Himalayan owners, and other motovloggers and youtubers.
But my energy ran dry quickly, so half way around, I left to be on my own, and enjoy the ride back home at the pace I chose.

KICKING ARSE AT 70~SUBSCRIBER GREENLANING DAY~Eps1~LOW TYRE PRESSURES?~BEAUTIFUL BRITISH COUNTRYSIDE

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-10 | This is a new series about Greenlaning Days with Subscribers. If you are a seasoned pro, you can teach me a few things, and push me out of my comfort zone. If you are a total beginner, and you would like to give it a go, then I can teach you a few things, and push you out of your comfort zone. At the same time, showcasing our beautiful British countryside.
You don’t have to be old, but if you are a little bit wild, and have a free spirit, that will go a long way.
Today, I am heading up to North Devon to meet Ken. He is quite experienced, so I can imagine it will be quite testing for me today, especially in these conditions, as we have had a lot of rain.
@Saddlebags73 has been such a support for this channel. Before Morocco we were hardly noticed. He loved the channel, and shared his interest in us on his own channel, which probably trebled my subscribers at the time. Top bloke, great channel.
Saddlebags recommended us to Ken. Ken started watching the Total Beginner to Greenlaner series, and wow!! He was such a massive support, especially for Helene, she had a tough time of it really, because she had four or five falls, sometimes crashes, every time we went out. He was a massive support, commented on every video, and has done the same throughout the Morocco trip. He is like the number one subscriber, so it is only fitting that we start this new series with Ken.
If you are wondering why Helen isn’t with me, it is because her job now requires her to work every other weekend, so that is why I have come up with this new series.
I had an awesome day greenlaning with Ken, as you will see, but I had a nagging question all throughout, will lowering my tyre pressures improve my grip over slippery terrain, control through muddy patches as does Ken? Ken has his tyres at a very low 10psi, whereas mine are at 32psi. Throughout the day, I was convincing myself that that is the way forward for Helene and I. The following week, Helene and I did reduced our tyres to about half of normal pressures, and I believe it worked.
Old Wild And Free is the theme for this channel, at the end of the day, I gave Ken an interview. Obviously he fitted into the first category, as he is rather old, in fact seventy years old, and still kicking arse on the lanes. I ask him what is the most wild thing he has done, or does do. And finally, what does freedom mean to him.
What a wonderful guy.

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-07 | What did we let ourselves in for?
As we leave the town of Boumia, we encounter a rather tricky exit. So I apologise for the swearing.
We travel through national parks, with lots of Cedar forests. Will probably see some monkeys.
Back to the tricky piste. That was the gnarliest bit of road that we have come across, more akin to what we do in the UK. It’s the most difficult thing we have done since the desert. As you can see, Helene’s panniers are full, with food and cooking equipment, the tent and sleeping bags on top.
All the tools, two days worth of food and water on mine, the rucksack has the computer, powerbanks and other bits, and it’s heavy. Fine doing it without all the weight, but, we were so impressed, impressed with ourselves for getting through it without a scrape, and impressed with the bikes, how they handled the situation. I hardly used the clutch, which was amazing, even at slow speeds. That is when a Himalayan comes into its own, it is like a bled tractor.
That was a good experience, because it went well, and it has given Helene back her confidence, for rougher terrain. Normally, we would enjoy that type of thing, but because of the accident, and the extra weight, it was a concern, but, she still enjoyed it, she has just told me on the intercom. I enjoyed it, but there was fear there aswell. And, it’s just one of those things, if you face your fears, and overcome them, what a pleasure, what an absolute pleasure, and your ego does a few leaps and bounds, as it did for Helene, so I’am really chuffed for her.
You never know when a tarmacked road ceases to be a tracked road, because I’am well aware, that heavy rainfall, and big floods that they have in the winter here, just wrecks a tarmacked road.
How can anyone, snob, or look down on a Royal Enfield Himalayan, or a 125 like a Sinnis Terrain. Look at what we have achieved so far, and neither of the bikes have broken down.
Many pistes have been tarmacked, but it doesn’t take long before the tarmacked road becomes a post once again.
At the end of the day, we find a lovely wild camping spot, with everything we need.

Old Wild And Free 2023-05-03 | We are heading away from Cathedral Rock and join the beautiful Assif Melloul Piste.
The shop owner next to the mosque gave us some petrol, as there are no petrol stations around here. God only knows when we will get petrol again, so we topped up the jerry cans.
What was really bizarre, a group of bikers on Africa Twins, they were all Moroccan. One of them stopped, his name was Ali, and he said “your’e Old Wild And Free”, I said “yeah”, he said “I follow you, you are hardcore”. Do you know what? That’s awesome, it made my day.
We were carrying three days supply of food and water, even though we were following a river course, but you never know if it is dry.
The canyon and ride was stunning, but our main object for the day was to find a lovely wild camping spot, to rest for a full day, as we had been busy hiking for the past two days with very little sleep due to barking puppies. So peace and quiet was essential.
There so many wonderful views, so I would look at my own peril, as the piste was not only narrow, but a steep drop on one side.
At the end of the video, we give a demonstration, of how we COOK while wild camping.
