Knitting a Go Birds Hat | Knitting House Square

KnittingHouseSquare 2025-01-28 | I recently knit a "Go Birds" hat, and it turned out to be the perfect project for any Philadelphia sports fan, especially with the Super Bowl around the corner. I started by choosing soft, heavy worsted weight yarn in Philly green and white to give it that bold team look. Using a simple knit and purl stitch, I created a comfy, stretchy beanie that would keep me warm during those chilly game nights. To add the "Go Birds" slogan, I used the intarsia technique to incorporate the text into the pattern, making it stand out. It was a fun and easy way to show my team pride while preparing for the big game.

Note: I am not selling anything any finished products or patterns to profit from the "Go Birds" slogan. This is just how I knit my personal hat. Go Birds is a trademark of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Leg Warmers Knit Flat | Beginner Step By Step Knitting Tutorial | Fully Customizable

Flat knitting is where a piece is knit flat, rather than in the round on circular or double-pointed knitting needles, then seamed up the side to create a circular piece.

In this tutorial, we will start by calculating the number of stitches you need to cast-on based on your measurements. Once we have the cast-on number we will work a simple cast-on and repeat pattern for the desired length. Once complete we will cast-off and seam the leg warmer into its tube shape.

Socks Knit Flat Part 2! Sock with the seam on the opposite side

The original socks knit flat video included only one sock pattern. That means that the seam for both the left and right sock were on the same side. After posting I received many requests for a separate left and right sock pattern so that the seam of each sock would be on opposite sides, and you could wear the pair with both of the seams facing towards center.

I am going to refer to the original pattern as the Right Sock because the seam ends up on the left (the inside of the right foot) and this new additional pattern as the Left Sock where the seam will be on the right side (the inside of the left foot).

The Left Sock the pattern is exactly the same all the way up until the heel. So follow the original Right Sock pdf pattern up through where it says Heel (Video Time 15:37), work the heel as described in this video, then continue to follow the original Right Sock pdf pattern re-starting at Sock Foot (Video Time 28:49)!

How to Knit Socks that Fit | Learn to Create and Knit Your Own Custom Sock Pattern

In this step-by-step knitting tutorial, Madeline from Knitting House Square shows step-by-step how to create a custom sock pattern that fits! This is a pattern recipe, where you will use your foot measurements, and a few calculations to create your own sock pattern.

Madeline starts off by showing the measurements you need to take before beginning. You can either measure your feet or use one of the Shoe Size to Foot Measurement Guides listed below. Once you have your measurements, the next step will be to calculate the number of stitches you need to cast-on. With the cast-on number determined, Madeline will show you how to cast on and knit the sock leg and cuff to your desired length. Next up is the heel, where you will create a custom heel that is perfectly configured based on the number of stitches you cast on. Once the heel is complete, you will knit the foot of the sock, and lastly, Madeline will show you how to calculate how many toe decrease rounds you need, and how to determine when to work the decrease rounds.

These socks are knit out of a thicker yarn than the typical sock (DK weight, rather than the standard fingering weight), so this makes for a great thick, warm, and FAST pair of socks you can knit. The socks make great winter and boot socks. They can be customized for anyone and any size!

In this video tutorial, I show step-by-step how to knit a rounded sock toe! This top-down sock toe method can be applied to any stitch count, and will work for magic loop or double-pointed needles!

Rather than dividing the sock into two halves and decreasing on either end, this method splits the sock up into 6 sections and decreases evenly throughout them all. As an added bonus - there is NO KITCHENER STITCH required when you knit a rounded sock toe!
