https://linktr.ee/tsrocketfactoryMars Rock MiningTom Sachs2022-10-01 | Tom Sachs: Rocket Factory presents – The history of humanity is the history of our technology. Imagination gives us the unique advantage of abstract thought. We are able to dream, to see beyond our immediate reality. Our eyes see a stone, but our mind sees its potential. The most significant event in our species’ evolution happened 2.6 million years ago when we formed rocks into our first tools.
Through the ages we’ve grown infinitely more capable, infinitely more complex through advancements in our tools, our technology. For better and for worse — our ability to extract the resources of our planet, and apply them towards shaping our environment has led to humankind becoming the most dominant force on Earth. Why stop there.

Video: Charlie KossCHALLENGE 15 - 10,000 HOURSTom Sachs2021-06-19 | In 2012, I built an entire tea house from scratch. Every element was made by hand, except for the central element, a tea bowl (or chawan) that I bought on eBay and engraved with a NASA worm. NYC ceramics master JJPEET was there to call me out. Since then I’ve dedicated myself to mastering making ceramic tea bowls.
This is a video of me making a bowl with the pinch pot method that my master (JJPEET) taught me. The tea bowl that I'm always trying to make ( my north star) is the one Sen no Rikyū commissioned Chōjirō to make over 500 years ago. I chose to dedicate the necessary hours to perfecting this method. I’m 8,700 hours in.
We’ve all worked hard together on this Wear Tester Journey work with some rules and guidelines under which we make our art. We establish our own rules to keep us from going crazy with the endless choices that the universe provides (the existential abyss). We use structure to keep us in line so we can finish the damn project. Now is the time to throw it all out of the fucking window. Find your own voice. Stick with it and proceed down the road.

#nikecraftweartester #tomsachsCHALLENGE 10: OUT AND BACKTom Sachs2021-05-14 | THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS SHOWING UP.
Start by doing this twice a week. This is not about how fast you go, or how far - celebrate showing up.
INSTRUCTIONS: 1 - Plan your course. 2 - Set a timer for 10 minutes. 3 - Start your run. Go easy. Relax and be patient. 4 - Run your course for 10 minutes. 5 - Stop when the time is up. This is the bingo point. 6 - Mark this spot. Use any means necessary. This is a statement that you were here. 7 - You have 10 minutes to get back.
This run leaves a physical mark. Art is about mark making. Keep track of your marks on a map.

#nikecraftweartester #tomsachsCHALLENGE 9: OUTPUT BEFORE INPUTTom Sachs2021-05-07 | TODAY WE FACE OUR ADDICTION. TODAY WE COMMIT TO OUTPUT BEFORE INPUT.
We’ve had 8 hours of sleep where our subconscious minds are active, and working to make sense of the irrationality of our waking hours. We only have direct access to this very sacred, surreal, information immediately after waking. Input from the outside world destroys our access. We must output BEFORE input. Do not waste this moment.
INSTRUCTIONS: 1 - Wake up five minutes earlier than you’re used to. 2 - Use this extra time to create a new habit. OUTPUT: Draw, write, dance, touch clay, etc. 3 - Before you bring in new information, you must express yourself outwardly. 4 - Implement this into your daily routine. Continue this ritual, without fail, forever.

#nikecraftweartester #tomsachsWEAR TESTER: REPAIRTom Sachs2021-04-28 | RETURN AND REPAIR
In Phase 1, 150 Wear Testers were given the Mars Yard 2.5. Over 60 days, the shoes accumulated 216,000 hours of real world data. Each Wear Tester returned their pair to our Laboratory for analysis. The shoes were filthy, worn, torn, battered, broken, and stinky, but not beyond the point of salvation. Each pair was sanitized then mended, ready for redeployment.
Thank you to every Phase 1 Wear Tester. Phase 2 starts next week.

#nikecraftweartester #tomsachsCHALLENGE 5 - ARCHITECTURETom Sachs2021-03-06 | ARCHITECTURE IS THE UNAVOIDABLE ART
INSTRUCTIONS 1 - Pick 5 architectural points that mean something to you (don’t limit yourself to only buildings). 2 - Visit them. 3 - Document, and make a map.
Architecture is like an emotion: good, bad, or indifferent. You can’t stop things from being designed. Whether it’s a brilliant piece of Eames, Noguchi, Mies van der Rohe or a compromised turd of disposable furniture - it’s still all part of architecture and design.

INSTRUCTIONS: 1 - Think of a place you’d normally drive. 2 - Pick your route. Try to do this walk in a day. 3 - Plan ahead. Pack a bag, essentials only. 4 - Start your walk. 5 - Document your journey - make a map.
This is not about efficiency, set your own pace.
This is not a hike, or a run. This is a walk.
“Tourism is sin, and travel on foot virtue.” - Werner Herzog
Do these planet exercises at YOUR level. If you have doubts, do it at an easier level. Take it easier than you think. It’s not how many or how hard it is that matters, it's how WELL you do the exercises. Perfect your form. Use a mirror. Your body is the force that guides your planet around its cosmic orbit.
Doing things correctly means doing everything correctly. Only the universe is perfect in its structure, but we can aspire to emulate its majestic perfection.
INSTRUCTIONS: 1 - Watch the video, and study the exercises. 2 - Start easy, listen to your body. 3 - Move to the next level - only when you’ve mastered the one before. 4 - Routine - make it count.
Stage 1 - Do all 5 exercises twice a week Stage 2 - Do all 5 exercises 3 times a week Stage 3 - Do all 5 exercises every other day
