Products that I use to maintain my blades & router bits:
Pitch and Resin Remover Saw Blade & Router Bit Cleaning kit Blade Cote
Do your sawblades seem dull? And maybe not cut as good as they did when they were new? Maybe they aren't dull.
Pitch & resin build up adds a lot of friction to the blade passing through the wood. So it moves slower, and the increased friction causes increased heat, and therefore, more burning. Maybe your blades just seem dull. Maybe they just need cleaned.
The heating of wood from the friction of sawing makes the tar and pitch distill out of the wood and leave behind charcoal. The charcoal that we see is the burnt wood that is left behind. Basically the blackened stripes or circular patterns and streaks that we see on the maple or cherry that we cut. Whenever you see this, pitch and tar have definitely been deposited on your sawblade. It deposits slowly over time. And you can't see it until it has accumulated.
Your wood doesn't even have to burn for the pitch & resin to distill out, and deposit onto your blade.
Resins are naturally found in plants, and trees are full of resin ducts. trees use the resins as a defense against beetles, fungi, and other invaders. And resin content increases when a tree is under attack. They are known chemically as resin acids, and are therefore acidic. So a cleaner that is more alkali on the pH scale is what is needed.
If you don't clean this pitch and resin from your sawblades and router bits it will accumulate. This will lead to the same cycle of more friction, and more heating and more problems.
After cleaning your blades and bits, The best thing to do is to prevent this pitch and resin from accumulating so fast again. So you need to apply a coating to the blades, that will decrease friction and hopefully give them a nonstick surface, to inhibit the accumulation of pitch and resin all over again.

I have started a second YouTube channel that is dedicated to science. And for that reason I have decided to put in a lab in my home. One of the first things I need are some lab benches. So, I thought I might show the build here. … My new channel: youtube.com/c/AlwaysLearningScience
This build just so happens to be great for any kind of basic table. It is super easy and can be done in a day or two. All you would need to do is add your own top. It is already suited for a 30” x 72” top, and you can buy pre-made butcher block tops that size, or build your own, or simply use plywood. Take advantage of the free plans in you are interested.

We were commissioned to make 50 mallets for a corporate build for the second time in two months. The first time we only had a small overrun of a few hammers that sold immediately. But we had a lot of people, after they were gone, ask for one. So when this build came along we decided to build a few more extras. This video shows step by step how we handle a bulk order. A few months ago, we made a push stick to use with our table saw. We wanted something that was practical but that also looked beautiful. We believe that tools should be functional and attractive at the same time, and so we used Tiger Maple and Bolivian Rosewood.
With use the table saw blade has slowly cut into to the bottom of the push stick. This is expected and it’s what makes this such a handy tool. We get great holding power and safety at the same time.
For this style of push stick that is common, but since we use such a beautiful species we spend about 20 minutes, once every 3 – 4 months to restore it, rather than make a new one.

This sled is unique in the marketplace, and we’ll be seeking a patent. It’s made of high grade Baltic Birch and all hardware is included. It’s precision CNC and Laser made. It will do flawless crosscuts, bevel cuts, miter cuts, dado cuts, tenon cuts, picture frames and more. No sled on the market can even come close to doing all of these functions.
It works on both right tilting and left tilting table saws with no modifications.
Plus it will be lighter than almost any sled out there. It also has replaceable zero-clearance inserts in the sled base, and in the fence.
The front fence (the one away from the operator) is quickly removable to allow cuts for nearly any width, or miters for super long boards. And it pops back on as soon as the cutting is done. Check out the Sled video in case you want one!

Since we replaced our Grizzly table saw with the Saw Stop we have been in need of a new crosscut sled. We thought about building our Extreme Crosscut Table Saw Sled but realized that it could use a few improvements. Don’t get me wrong, it is an excellent table saw sled and is a very popular tool. However, one issue we have had with it, is its weight. It is just too heavy.

Last October one of our viewers contacted me about a custom piece. They had been looking at antique sleigh beds made from oak, and they wanted one, but the only sizes to be found were for double size beds, and she wanted one in queen size.
She was an artist and sketched out what she was looking for, and that’s what we started with. I thought that this would be an excellent project video. It’s a beautiful bed that works well with many styles today, and I thought the rest of our viewers might appreciate it too.
We designed a detailed set of plans for it to match the specifications of a modern day queen sized bed. And went from there. It was a fun project and it incorporated a lot of different woodworking techniques to get the project accomplished. The bed starts with making giant 4” and 5” round dowels that are more than five feet long. There are no complicated jigs to accomplish it, and that part is actually quite easy. Then there is some pattern template cutting to get the legs to be identical to one another. And of course no bed would be complete without mortise & tenon joinery.
In addition to that a bed needs to come apart for transport, and go back together again. So, it needs to be something that can be done easily. But since we overbuild everything here, we came up with an interesting solution to bolt this bed together, so that the fastening system will last for many generations. This bed should have no problem becoming an antique itself one day.

We have a lot of bird feeders and squirrel feeders and such at our home. I’d like to share with you one of our favorites. This is a squirrel feeder with a lifting lid mechanism. It works by the squirrel standing on it to access the peanuts. It is also a very easy project to build requiring only a single 6” wide cedar fence picket. So it becomes a $2.00 project. And it’s a great project to get children involved with, especially because it is such a quick build. I hope you enjoy it. I should note. That the original concept of a lifting lid isn’t mine, I’ve seen it for a great many years by a number of people. This is just my take on it.
This is a short video of how I made my Wooden Vise. Since I first made this vise a year and a half ago I’ve received many hundreds of emails from people who wanted a shorter version. So, this is it; 14 minutes instead of the original Hour & a Half.
This is a serious vise and has the full grip strength of a real metal vise. I use it daily and it would make a wonderful addition to any shop.

The Tools & Bits I used: 3” Forstner bit for Nut: 2-1/8” Forstner bit for Screw: Flush trim router bit: Pattern cutting router bit: Sandpaper I used Diablo: Kobalt Wood Chisel: Wood Rasp & File:
This vise is a Beast, the jaws are 12” and I can grab most anything with it. This is the most fun project I have built in probably over 20 years. And to top that off, I also get to use it every day in my shop! I decided that I wanted a bench vise for my shop, when my old one was finally seeming too small for everything. I went looking for one, and the more I looked the more I was intrigued by how they worked. I studied the parts involved and realized that they are not really all that difficult to build. There are really only 6 or 7 parts to the standard bench vise, and I could just build them one at a time. I decided to use all exotic lumber for the build because this was something that I wanted to keep forever, and really cherish. Also, exotics were also very hard and durable. The perfect wood for a vise. Although, it could just as easily be built out of a domestic hardwood such as oak or cherry and still be very durable. I needed to get only a small board of African Padauk, and one of Purpleheart. The rest of the exotic pieces I picked up either from Rockler or Woodcraft in their turning blank section. And since I always like to have a bunch of turning blank pieces around, I had all that I needed already in my shop. I spent a while perfecting the design for absolute maximum strength and ease of building. If you decide you need to build one too, you can pick up a set of plans from my website. They are extremely detailed 3D plans, and you can easily build this vise from them. If you went out and purchased all of the most expensive exotics for your build, it would cost about $250.00 - $300.00. That’s a whole lot less than the price of a bench vise with 12” jaws. Even if it is a cheap vise. So, not only can you save money, you can have the pride of doing it yourself. If you used something like oak, you can do this build for maybe $25 - $35, and a lot of the pieces, you probably have sitting in your scrap pile, since many of them are small. I hope you give it a try. It was without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable builds that I have done. And in the end, I got a tool that I use every single day now.

Video #88 - making a Memorial Cross from Pink Ivory and Purpleheart diyKings Fine Woodworking2023-03-26 | Memorial Cross From Pink Ivory and Purpleheart Wood
This is a Memorial Cross that one of our community members has asked us to make. Unfortunately we are so busy these days that we can rarely take on outside projects, but whenever someone from our Kings Fine Woodworking Community asks, we do whatever we can.
This project is made from Purpleheart wood and Pink Ivory wood. We thought that together these would make a really beautiful combination.
Purpleheart is a wood that comes from any one of 23 different species of trees in the Peltogyne genus. It is a giant flowering tree that can reach 160 feet in height. It is found in parts of Central and South America, but the majority of what we use comes from the Amazon Basin. It has extraordinary strength and density. But it is known for it’s unique organic chemistry and the oxidation reactions that it undergoes to become a deep royal purple color.
Pink Ivory is also incredibly special. It comes from a small region in Africa where it is so rare that only 1 in 100,000 trees there are Pink Ivory. It used to be the Royal Wood of the Zulu People. And only a royal could possess it. In fact the penalty for a non-royal found with it, was death. Fortunately today it is being managed by the government of Zimbabwe, and is becoming a sustainable product. So, if you are lucky enough, you can find it for sale from time to time.
This project was suited to the CNC machine since the customer needed it engraved. Therefore, I thought we could go ahead and cut the cross shape out on the CNC as well. Although, you could certainly use a bandsaw or a jigsaw.
Things we used for this project:
Router Kit Chamfer router bit Small clamps Deft Semi Gloss Lacquer Titebond III Glue

I had a few hours of down time while my older daughter Maya was completing some steps on a couple of customer projects, so Sai and I took the time to make a much needed custom push stick. One that was slightly longer than normal.
I Frequently rip shorter lengths of wood in the 2 – 3 feet range, and I am always wanting a push stick that can apply more downward force on the end of wood that is farther from me. A longer push stick will really help with this. I also wanted a push stick that is wider then the standard ¾” size I see everywhere. When I try to apply forward downward force on a narrow push stick, it will sometimes wobble side to side, which isn’t safe. Finally, I wanted a catch or hook piece on the end that I can replace after it gets a bunch of cuts through it from going over the blade.
This push stick met all of these requirements, and I got to build it out of one of my favorite exotics, Morado. Also called Bolivian Rosewood. It is a quick and easy project that only takes a couple of hours. You can of course, make this from any wood you like.
We are also including a free set of plans that you can download if you are interested.

We have had a great many requests from our viewers and community group members to explain a quick and easy to cut a juice groove into a cutting board. On the surface it seems like an easy task, but it’s not as simple as all that. There must be a guide fence of some sort for the router to ride along, and a stop at either end. Also, it’s important that these are the exact same all the way around the cutting board so that the corners of the groove line up just right.
It’s possible to create a one-off jig, just by screwing some pieces to a surface to accomplish this. But, what if you make lots of cutting boards to sell at craft fairs? Or you make several as gifts, and what if they are all different sizes?
We tried to answer that with this jig. It’s a pretty simple project. And it will allow you to quickly readjust to a new cutting board size in a few seconds, and then cut a perfect groove in about a minute. This project is for all of you who asked us to help come up with a solution. The total project is a combination of many other youtubers’ work that we have seen and a bit of our own engineering thrown in.

In this video we are making one of our favorite things to build, our Thor’s Hammer Woodworking Mallets. We have collected many new and different exotic woods from different parts of the world and also some of the domestic woods that are available here in the United States and decided to make mallets with all of them. We are hoping to reach 100K subscribers by the end of this year, and as a way to say thank you to all of our followers, we are offering a limited edition sale!
The first 205 people who buy mallets will get them at ½ price! The discount code to checkout is CHRISTMAS
All Mallets in this sale are engraved with our Logo, and Personally Signed and Dated.
There are 10 different exotics available. And you can choose any of those for the head and any for the handle. This makes 100 possible combinations. We have actually built every one of them and took a high resolution photograph. So, if you want to know what a certain combination looks like, you can go here and click on the options and see a closeup picture!
Mallets are available in the below species, but if you have interest in Lignum Vitae, I have a very limited supply. It is now on the CITES Appendix II, and the IUCN Red List and it is no longer being imported into the US.
Lignum Vitae Bocote Cocobolo East Indian Rosewood Leopardwood Osage Orange African Padauk Purpleheart Redheart Wenge
Domestic species are also available in White Oak, Cherry, Maple, and Walnut.

A viewer of ours requested one of our life size Thor’s Hammers but he had a unique request, he wanted to head and handle made out of all Lignum Vitae. Lignum is pretty rare and it is the densest wood on earth, so this was definitely going to be a showpiece hammer.
I thought it would look nice with some deep red Padauk accents. Those were incorporated on the handle and the top of the hammer head.
Follow along as we create this for him. And don’t forget your free set of plans.

Kids and adults both like these. Especially the comic book lovers in your family.
And it doesn't have to just be Batman. You can cut the logo out of your favorite superhero or villain. Try the Joker, or even Superman.
You can either resaw some shop scrap down to thinner boards and then plane it to 1/4" or 1/8". Or, you can buy thin stock from your local hardwood dealer. I use both Rockler, and Woodcraft.
Trace the pattern onto the wood, and cut it out with a bandsaw or coping saw. some sanding and some finish and that's all it takes.

How cool is it to make your own All wood deep reach c-clamps? What about making your own Wooden Vise Screw? Or even giant scale nuts and bolts made out of all wood?
You can do that, and countless other projects with wooden threads, but if you have ever tried to cut them, you may have found out that the threads tend to tear out and the cutter shreds the wood while cutting. I’ll show you the method that I use to get perfect wooden threads of any size. And I’ll be doing it in giant scale. The reason is to show you that it can be done if everything is properly prepped. Usually the bigger the thread, the worse the tear-out. And, that is because the threading tool, whether it be the tap or the die, must cut larger and deeper amounts at once.
There are jigs that can be made to do this but nothing works as good as a dedicated wood threading kit. I like the ones from Woodcraft, and Beall and Dieter Schmidt all equally well. The truth is, that the wood prep is the most important aspect. (of course your cutters must be sharp).

Here are some links to the various sizes that I use. Each link is a kit that includes both the tap and die. And that is all you need to make both the threaded rod, and the nut that fits it!

Includes complete materials list and cut list, with all angles and math done for you! Plus these designs maximize material use, giving you the most amount of shed for the least amount of money.
This is a complete video series detailing exactly how to build a shed from beginning to end. It is presented so that even someone with little to no experience can tackle this project. The instruction teaches the IBC (International Building Code) rules that almost every jurisdiction in the United States follows, so you will be prepared if you need a permit. But in many cases a permit isn’t required for a shed under a certain size.
This project takes only basic tools to accomplish. If you have a circular saw, a drill, a level & a hammer, along with some basic hand tools, you can do this.
There are things that will make it quicker of course, such as a nailgun & compressor. But you can decide what level of tools are needed.
I’ve broken the video into digestible parts. This makes it easier to refer back to a specific section. Or, if you only happen to need instruction in one area, this will save you time, since you can just watch what you need.
