Scott Abel Coaching 2020-06-02 | Straight Arm Straight Bar Pullover Inside a dual axis cable machine, set a bench on a high incline level but not to full perpendicular. Use a straight bar and set the bar at about shoulder height. The position will be slightly different for each brand of cable machine. Get in behind the bar and then walk it out with locked out arms and sit on the bench and lay back with feet flat on the floor in front of you.Under control execute the pullover from reaching back position for full stretch on the lats and then “pull over” all the way down to the top of the thighs.This motion has a great feel to it and is a very effective exercise for lats that can’t be duplicated with DB or BB variations. How to Blast Your BICEPS! Easy Drop Sets with Resistance Bands! Scott Abel Coaching 2020-05-19 | This is a great way to intensify your biceps training in a workout. Even if you are doing whole body workouts like HGS, but you want to focus on biceps and arms, you can do so easily by finishing with a drop sets/strip set. After completing a couple normal work sets for biceps – finishing with one or two drop sets like this as a biceps blast is more than enough completing anywhere from 20-30 total reps per drop set. This is just as quick to transition to lighter weights as it would be to put back Dumbbells on a rack in the gym and go the next lightest DB. And this is by no means the only exercise where drop set/strip sets can be done with bands. All kinds of exercises can be done for advanced intensity drop set/strip set application. Byron starts with a light set, then just adds same length but thicker band – then another. And walking bands further away or closer in, also alters tensionNotice we use bands that “have” handles but we don’t use them. Execute a glutes squat (aka “kneeling hip drive”) for 20 reps with the DB locked out overhead to engage the whole core as well as the glutes. (actually you can hold any weighted household item overhead)After completing 20 reps of the glutes squats; situate yourself on the Bosu and execute a Superman hold for a slow 20 count as you see here. Hit Your Biceps This Way! Lying Biceps Face Curls with Resistance Bands! Scott Abel Coaching 2020-03-30 | Loop a band around any high stable attachment like you see here. You can go as high as you want. Create the desired level of tension by the band you use and where you grip the bands. Walk it out if needs be and then lie down on your back and execute the high to low plane biceps curls.Remember, all that the biceps muscles can do is ‘flexion’ so for maximum fiber recruitment doing ‘flexion’ in various ranges and planes of motion is essential - here we have a ceiling to floor vertical plane which will alter muscle fiber recruitment favorablyThis is a great alternative to the same old same old biceps exercises – and the starting position gives you a nice maximum pre-stretch in the biceps as well – something that is often hard to feel in standard biceps exercises.It is also a great exercise if you have any low back issues and normal standing or seated curling may be risky, painful or problematic for you. Find a wall or a beam or a vertical support axis and first place your whole against that wall or support axis. Walk out into the push up and then before you execute the push up – push your feet HARD into the wall or support beam. Try to push with heel first, but as long as you are pressing those legs HARD into that immovable surface you will notice effects through the legs and glutes and posterior chain. How to Hit Your Chest With Resistance Bands! Low to High Chest Flyes with Resistance Bands Scott Abel Coaching 2020-03-05 | Single Leg Kneeling Low to High Chest Flyes Use an ankle cuff with the attachment loop at the front of the leg just above the ankle. Select the desired tension resistance band you want to use and loop it through the cuff and make sure the tension is equal on both sides. Kneel back with the resistance band attached leg behind and then step through the band as you see here. Spread the bands out wide BEFORE you begin to execute the movement. And then simply “squeeze” the reps from low to high position with a peak contraction focus as the hands come together. Emphasize continuous tension and peak contraction throughout the rep range.
