Last winter was really tough for me - no inspiration or motivation to write any music, my job was actively trying to make me as miserable as possible (and succeeding), I had a fight with and lost a long-time friend. Finally it was so much that I decided to take all that negativity and put it into this song. For the few weeks I worked on this song, I was the happiest I have ever been. Everything felt right - I enjoyed making a story out of music, I was using the theory lessons I had spent years and thousands of dollars toward learning, and it helped me deal with all the depression that had been plaguing me. When I finished the early version of this song, I was proud of what I had created.And then when it failed to make the cut of P@D, it felt like I had been suffering for nothing. It felt like I had been in this great turmoil and no one cared. I couldn’t shake it, and to make matters worse - my boss was putting an insane amount of pressure on me at work. One day I worked til 8 at night and knew I had several hours of work yet ahead of me. I needed a break and took a walk around the area. I walked to the church and prayed for a reason to be alive or else not to be. I walked out to the bridge that overlooked the park in hopes it would give perspective. On my way back home I was stopped by police because someone had called them on me. I made it back home around 10 and worked until about 3 :30 in the morning finishing what my boss needed. There was never any acknowledgement that I had worked that hard or that late. In the months that followed, I decided that music was too important to give up, and hired a professional studio tutor to help me get better at mixing. As a lesson, we took the stems to this song and gave it the professional treatment - which is the version on here now. When I started making music, it was because brony music had helped save my life before. I used to think the early musicians playing concerts at cons were like heroes - sharing songs of their own love for the show/fandom and bringing wayward souls in need of a community together. I always felt that if I could do that for someone, then any and all effort would have been worth it.Sometimes chasing dreams can leave you with less than you started out with, but you should keep looking up. If by chance this song strikes a chord with you, then I’m glad you were able to hear it. I kept seeing memes appear on the pop culture websites I liked at the time and looked up what was going on. When I found out the show hit big with my demographic and Lauren Faust was behind it, I called up a friend and told him that there was this weird, new show that we were probably going to like and should try out. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions of my life and has sculpted nearly every aspect of it since then.I originally wrote this song for a DustCar competition at the end of 2020. I wanted to have an optimistic message with a bit of a somber feel to it as a way to capture how I felt about the end of G4 and the prospect of an upcoming generation. Orchard in the Sky Luck Rock 2017-09-20 | When I saw “The Perfect Pear” for the first time, the emotions hit me pretty hard. It made me think about how similar the apple children are to their parents. We got to see how Bright Mac and Pear Butter cared for each other and I that kind of deep love is carried on in their children. That episode made me look at Big Mac and Sugar Belle in a new light.
