LYRICS: We are the kids from the... We are the kids We are the kids from the Class of 28 We are the kids from the Class of 28 We are the kids from the Class of 28
In the ‘90s When there was still so little I knew We were invisible ‘cause all of Thatcher’s bigots had re-written the rules So when I dared to ask My teacher threw me out of class He called me vulgar and crude Well then along came the Internet It gave me a better education than I was gonna get in my school Or from a TV scene Or at the movies Or in any reachable magazine
Of course I was confused I never understood why certain facts were such a big fuckin’ deal I tried my best to keep it safe No real guidance or grace You work it out for yourself in the end Times change and then
I wonder why it took such a long time to recover (Prevent promotion to protect and preserve) Left to fend for ourselves While our friends were all schooled on each other (So flawed, offensive, and completely absurd) Oh I found my own way everywhere that I could But all the hiding and the pining for touch And never feeling understood Was never gonna do anybody any good
One of the many things The Right will get consistently wrong They think providing information like the truth Will somehow damage the young They try to keep you in line Stop you from learning your potential Banging your own drum
Until finally that evil Section 28 was overridden Now it’s long dead and gone (Long dead and gone) But for every generation taught to hate on themselves Some of the damage still lingers And it cannot be undone It cannot be undone
I wonder why it took such a long time to recover (Prevent promotion to protect and preserve) Left to fend for ourselves While our friends were all screwing each other (So flawed, offensive, and completely absurd) Oh we found our own way everywhere that we could But all the hiding and the pining for touch And never feeling understood Was never gonna do anybody any good
We are the kids from the Class of 28 We are the kids from the Class of 28 We are the kids from the Class of 28
It’s not hard to see why It took such a long time to recover Left to fend for ourselves To defend our own sisters and brothers
Yeah it took me a while But I finally grew and recovered And I found my own way everywhere that I could But all the hiding and the pining for touch And never feeling understood Was never gonna do anybody any good
We are the kids from the Class of 28 (we are the kids) We are the kids from the Class of 28 (we are the kids) We are the kids from the Class of 28 (we are the kids) And we have not forgotten
We are those kids And we know what you did And we have not forgotten

LYRICS: He comes calling in the middle of the night, uninvited But I never turn him away He’s like a fever I don’t wanna shake He makes my pulse race All of the clichés
But I’m insatiable (Insatiable) And every time that he leaves The cravings are becoming too much to bear (Too much to bear) I’m devastated and left gasping for air
But I need something more Than just a gentleman caller I need someone to hold on to Someone who makes me feel alive Or is that too much to ask? Is it too much?
He’s got me feeling like I’m stuck in some 1980s song In a hard rock power ballad Lost in a fantasy of leathers, boots and motorcycles That I’m racing through fire
I’m insatiable (Insatiable) And every time that he leaves The cravings are becoming too much to bear (Too much to bear) I want him every day Everywhere
But I need something more Than just a gentleman caller I need someone to hold on to Someone who makes me feel alive Not just some fun for one night (No!) I need a gentleman caller Who won’t be gone in the morning Someone who keeps my fire alight Why is that too much to ask? Is it too much?
He’s got me singing “Emotional Fire” I’ve got chills, all my flesh is alive He’s got me channelling Cher in 1989 These craving’s giving me vibes like I’m Pat Benatar, Belinda Carlisle, I’m feeling like I’m Bonnie Tyler holding out for my hero tonight
Oh I’m insatiable (Insatiable) I need him every day Everywhere
And I need something more Than just a gentleman caller I need someone to hold on to Someone who makes me feel alive Not just some fun for one night (No!) (yeah yeah) I need a gentleman caller Who won’t be gone in the morning (In the morning) Someone who sets my fire alight Why is that too much to ask? Is it too much?
He’s just a gentleman caller He’s just a gentleman caller (In the morning) He’s just my gentleman caller, 1989 (More!) He makes me wanna fade out (Yeah yeah) He’s just my gentleman caller He’s just a gentleman caller He makes me wanna fade out He’s just my gentleman caller

LYRICS: He sings in notes that I can only dream of He wears a sleeve in red and black and green He wakes me up in a sweat on a Sunday morning With the prettiest smile I think I've ever seen
I wanna squeeze him so hard that I suffocate him He's just too beautiful to let out of my grip That boy's so damn perfect all the other guys hate him (You know the type!) Feel way too far out of my comfort zone for this
He's in my heart, he's in my lungs He's in everything that I touch And I don't know if I'm his salvation but he feels like a savior to me And every time he opens up, he makes me wanna spill my guts He got me so obsessed I'm shaking In love (Love)
He's my bass-playing fiend in a beanie with loose-fitting jeans on He's got that chiseled jaw and cute freckles on both of his cheeks How I ache when he's dressed in that chest-hugging vest with his guns out I've gone into fanboy overload, he's got me giddy and weak at the knees
He's like a picture of pure Photoshop perfection His hot stubble and "just-fallen-out-of-bed" look turns me on He's my pot-smoking muse, my pheromone injection (Drugs are bad, boys are good!) He's got that Alpha, dominant vibe going on (yeah it's coming on strong) And it feels so wrong but I love it
He's in my heart, he's in my lungs He's in everything that I touch And I don't know if I'm his salvation but he feels like a savior to me And every time he opens up, he makes me wanna spill my guts He got me so obsessed I'm shaking In love (Love) In Love (Love)
He's so ridiculously hot I cannot stand it (He's on fire!) He's got me burning up and bursting at the seams If you know what I mean!
He's in my heart, he's in my lungs He's in everything that I touch And I don't know if I'm his salvation but he feels like a savior to me And every time he opens up, he makes me wanna spill my guts He got me so obsessed I'm shaking In love (Love) In love (Love) In love (Love) In love (Love)
LYRICS: As this city cries and screams tonight Far away in a dream world he lies silent by my side No scars on our skin No tears in our eyes Look how far we've come The wars we've won And how we've survived
We are the stars And we hold the light On the floor, our bloodstained weapons from the fight
In this dangerous world of dragons and demons We are the slayers Oh we are the kings I'll protect you, you protect me We'll be the masters of our destiny When we touch our bodies light up the sky Two princes riding into the sunset We're in this together, you and I Hand in hand, side by side Unbreakable
We are unbreakable We are unbreakable We are unbreakable Unbreakable
In the distance, pools of twinkling lights Red flames rage on the horizon, the city ablaze tonight Secluded high in our abandoned town We mourn the embers as the buildings burn to the ground
We are the stars (the stars, the stars) We control the light (We control, we control the light) From the shadows we venture out into the night
In this dangerous world of violence and vengeance We are the slayers Oh we are the kings I'll protect you, you protect me We'll be the masters of our destiny When we kiss our bodies'll light up the sky Two princes riding into the sunset We're in this together, you and I Hand in hand, side by side (unbreakable) Unbreakable
Just two boys riding into the sunset We're in this together you and I Hand in hand, side by side Unbreakable
We are unbreakable We are unbreakable We are unbreakable We are unbreakable We are unbreakable Unbreakable
LYRICS: Ok, I admit, I thought you were fit and way out of my league I was pretty low on self-confidence and I was new to the scene So I didn't know where to place my eyes when you first spoke to me I was pretty young but you were pretty dumb, as it turned out to be
We hung out side by side for an incredible week of Trance music & dope And six nights without sleep It was fun, we were high, you seemed flawless and keen But the truth is you'd ruin it every time that you'd speak (SHHH!)
It's always the gorgeous ones who break your heart in the end I don't think it's coz they're special, I think it's coz they're too stupid to pretend That they're anything other than a beautiful face and a to-die-for body to match So while you're fun for a while, there's no way in Hell that I'd take you back
This went on for another month – it was wild and surreal Took me to your clubs where you took all kinda drugs that I'd never seen But this fickleness and vapidity only run skin deep And the sad truth is this - when peeling the layers away, there was nothing underneath
You invited me to your town for this wild weekend But somehow forgot to mention the ex-boyfriend And made me sleep on the floor as if I was just your mate While the two of you shared a bed, as if that was ok! (It's really not ok!)
It's always the gorgeous ones who break your heart in the end I don't think it's coz they're special, I think it's coz they're too stupid to pretend That they're anything other than a beautiful face and a to-die-for body to match So while you're fun for a weekend, there's no way in Hell that I'd take you back (I don't want you back)
I put it down to the drugs I would have been fine going home with your hot friend from the party He was brighter than you and he was makin' eyes at me But now I'm lying here, I'm high and I'm dry while you're both making out on the bed Seriously – who does that?
It's always the gorgeous ones who break your heart in the end I don't think it's coz they're special, I think it's coz they're too stupid to pretend That they're anything other than a beautiful face and a to-die-for body to match So while you're fun for a while, there's no way in Hell that I'd take you back (I'll never take you back)
It's always the gorgeous ones who break your heart in the end
LYRICS: I never knew his name but he knew how to break hearts Smooth, taut, golden skin lying topless in the tall grass Though I was just a kid, I remember His hair was tousled and dark He was always there every summer With a new tattoo on his arm
I'd spend endless hours watching boys in his band ride their mopeds through the town Something stirring inside of me And that cruel August sun on his face got me burning up now
And every time I feel that sting of the summer sun I get lost in the romance Those still reflections on the water And the sound of their engines tearing through the town The dust and the tyre tracks That painful sting of an endless summer What I wouldn't give just to steal a kiss from the boy with the bronze tan I swear I caught his eye that day by the riverside
He held me in his gaze In the corner of his mouth a smile But I never told another soul I just kept it hidden inside I could justify these feelings if it was some other place and time But the wind here's starting to pick up (yeah) and the stars are not aligned
I'd spend endless hours fighting urges to regret what could have been in another life Now the houses are boarded up, all the tourists have gone He's a faded memory now
And every time I feel that sting of the summer sun I get lost in the romance Those still reflections on the water And the sound of their engines tearing through the town The dust and the tyre tracks That painful sting of an endless summer What I wouldn't give just to steal a kiss from the boy with the bronze tan I swear I caught his eye that day by the riverside
I couldn't muster the strength to start over My eyes welled up but my heart stayed sober After that summer I never saw him again But he's always been here
There's a place for people like you and me And this space lies buried deep in the past In a world of ghosts and 'what-could-have-been's But the children have grown up fast All the ink has faded The world is a better place now
And every time I feel that sting of the summer sun I get lost in the romance Those still reflections on the water And the sound of their engines tearing through the town All the dust and the tyre tracks That painful sting of an endless summer (And it burns under the skin) What I wouldn't give just to steal a kiss from the boy with the bronze tan That's where I said goodbye That day by the riverside
We got his 'n' his electric shavers His 'n' his jeans His 'n' his trainers Two grown dudes in a similar size - me and my guy In synchrony at five foot eleven in height I love looking in the mirror standing side by side Wearing his 'n' his suits with his 'n' his ties
And everything's so interchangeable We can swap things whenever we choose If I'm bored of my wardrobe I'll raid his drawers I'll take his shorts, he'll wear my shoes
And sharing these supposedly "gender-specific" things Makes me feel smug with all the convenience that brings So whatever is mine is his and whatever is his can be mine And we'll stay nauseatingly happy 'til the end of time Just me and my guy
Looking back on a time in another life I never thought I could be happy or find my stride I thought relationships were for fools who liked to follow a crowd That's 'coz back in those days it seemed the odds were stacked The boys would kiss the girls on the bus at the back Turns out opposites don't necessarily always attract
Now I sit snuggled up in our bedroom I guess I've become one of those following fools One who's able to share all his male underwear His 'n' his toys, his 'n' his rules
And sharing these supposedly "gender-specific" things Makes us feel smug with all the convenience that brings So whatever is mine is his and whatever is his can be mine And we'll be nauseatingly happy 'til the end of time Just me and my guy Oh me and my guy
Though we get to share all our "boys' toys" and toiletries That ain't where the similarities end There's no feelings of envy or jealousy Sharing crushes on all the same men (Yes!) And I never have to explain Why my little brain has been programmed this way Because oh he gets it, like I get it We're in tune and locked on the same page
We got his 'n' his dreams, his 'n' his goals This his 'n' his life, it never gets old I will walk in these shoes 'til the soles have died Sometimes when we're lying under the covers at night I still get excited, it still makes me smile That I'm sharing my bed, lying side by side with another guy
And there's nothing else I can compare to this Growing up we never saw these scenes Watching friends struggling to navigate the world of boys with girls Guess it wasn't for me
Now sharing these supposedly "gender-specific" things Makes us feel smug with all the convenience that brings So whatever is mine is his and whatever is his can be mine And we'll stay nauseatingly happy 'til the end of time Just me and my guy Oh me and my guy Oh me and my guy
LYRICS: I think that you should take a long look in the mirror Ask yourself what message you want to deliver 'coz sometimes I think you forget I hope this doesn't come across as patronising But I am growing tired of your fantasizing that this whole world is in your debt You're so hard done by and the smallest things drive you mad You don't get why you can't have your cake and eat it
So take tonight: We're meant to be out having fun at this party But you're coming up with every reason under the sun to abort and start a fight (Please don't start a fight) You're tired or you're too busy, life's too hard and no one understands And you hate this scene and the toils of socialising
So I sought out and bounced my way over to all of them drag queens 'coz they're fitter than all the girls and way more fun than all the guys at the ball And yeah they're far more entertaining throwing shade with innuendos And lip-synching to our favourite divas while rocking stilettos... ...than you and your dull over-analysing of it all
We should learn a lesson from these lovely ladies And let our hair hang down every once in a while (Just once in a while) Yeah that's right! 'coz there are far more important things in life than the fight we've just had In the cab over who had said what, said it when and to whom
So you can sit here and sulk, but I'm sticking with the fabulous drag queens 'coz they're cuter than all the boys and way more fierce than all the girls at the ball And yeah they're far more entertaining throwing shade with innuendos Whilst competing on the runway, doing Death Drops in stilettos... ...than you and your dull over-analysing of it all
I wanna be immersed amongst the leaders of the pack Those who understand a struggle, those who've taken up your slack Helped fight this war for us all to be standing proud and tall within these walls And despite it all, still know how to have a good time Not drowning in self-pity or losing all perspective on life!
I wish I had the courage it takes to wear that crown And would you stand tall if it all came crashing down? Would you stand and fight? (Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight) Would you hold your ground?
So tonight I'm camping out by the side of these fabulous drag queens Seeing them reading the other divas Serving “Realness” to all the girls at the ball And yeah they're far more entertaining throwing shade with innuendos Fierce Bitchaz on the runway, tucked and werking them stilettos... ...than you and your dull over-analysing of it all

LYRICS: As the sun punches the horizon and the red mist fills the sky Take a ride with me, the night is calling out So pack your things for the journey 'coz the road ahead is unknown Then steal one last look at the places you're leaving behind
He says: "Ride with me and we'll hide out 'til the morning comes 'Coz tonight I'm gonna do bad things to you So close your eyes, hold on tight, fill your lungs Scream 'I'm not coming home'" I'm never coming home
Do you feel the sting of the summer sun as it pierces through your skin? Every time you feel that burnin', think of me (and keep holding it) When I'm wrapped in the embrace of a beautiful boy Feel a raging deep inside I can never return to the places I left behind
He says: "Ride with me and we'll hide out 'til the morning comes 'Coz tonight I'm gonna do bad things to you So close your eyes, hold on tight, fill your lungs Scream 'I'm not coming home'" I'll never come back
As the sun punches the horizon and the red mist fills the sky Take a ride with me, the night is calling out So pack your things for the journey 'coz the road ahead is unknown And steal one last look at the places you're leaving behind
So ride with me and we'll make out 'til the morning comes 'Coz tonight I'm gonna do bad things to you So close your eyes, hold on tight, fill your lungs Scream 'I'm not coming home' I'm never coming home
He says: "Ride with me and we'll hide out 'til the morning comes 'Coz tonight I'm gonna do bad things to you So close your eyes, hold on tight, fill your lungs Scream 'I'm not coming home'" I'm never coming home No I, I'll never come back
LYRICS: I have a vision - a perfect scene We're in America, both just turned 18 School's out, the sun is high Our favourite band is playing The Strip tonight You pick me up in your parents' car and we drive to a place where nobody is around The ground is wet outside with the scent of the warm summer rain I turn the stereo up and we sing along at the top of our lungs to the anthems of summer This is the perfect state This is the perfect place
And then you make out with me (You make out with me) You make out with me (When we make out) This is the perfect summer Then you make out with me (You make out with me) Then you make out with me (When we make out) Getting you off in the car And yeah we're gonna get far away from here... to anywhere (To anywhere)
And in this vision, you are the dream You're my American cliché, my James Dean The road is open, the roof is down Got that wind in our hair as we speed from town to town Starring in our own True Romance Your tattoos to your lips and the cigarettes in your mouth Every part of you's to enjoy, from your neck to your hips My beautiful vagabond boy This is the perfect state This is the perfect way
And then you make out with me (You make out with me) You make out with me (When we make out) This is the perfect summer Then you make out with me (You make out with me) Then you make out with me (When we make out) Getting you off in the car Hell yeah we're gonna get far away from here (This is the perfect summer) And yeah, you never know baby, this could be a new beginning We could get far away... to anywhere (to anywhere)
Oh but here we are, lying on a bed In some cold passing-through town somewhere in England Oh this is not how it was supposed to be It should be you and me in our fairytale situation But this room is cold, the radiator's broken, there's a stale smell of smoke in the air And we're not going anywhere Anywhere
(This is the perfect summer)
Let's replay this fantasy just one more time Let's pretend we could be happy Just close our eyes...
And then you make out with me (You make out with me) You make out with me (When we make out) This is the perfect summer Then you make out with me (You make out with me) Then you make out with me (When we make out) Getting you off in the car One day we're gonna get far away from here (This is the perfect summer) Getting you off in the car baby Someday we're gonna get far away from all of the things that we've seen (This is the perfect summer) (This is the perfect summer) (This is the perfect summer) (When we make out) (This is the perfect summer) This is all I ever wanted (This is the perfect summer) (This is the perfect summer) This is all I ever dreamed (This is the perfect summer) That we could get far away... to anywhere (to anywhere)

LYRICS: There will never be another person like you It's clear from the turnout today - everyone else feels it too I felt like a hypocrite when I heard you were gone Who am I to be crying like this when it's been so long? Oh then it hits me just like a fist in the face You're still a part of me and it's always gonna feel that way
Though they spoke of the peace you've found as we buried you in the ground I couldn't accept you were gone and the causes you'd fought so hard for were done
Oh is this fight over or has it just begun? Who are we to stop the war, act complacent? When there's still so much more to be done
We were seventeen when you broke my heart And I felt it so deeply, it seemed like my whole world fell apart It was stronger than lust – that intense kinda love Two outsiders finding ourselves and fighting the world The connections we share and the bodies we hold in our arms They form a part of our souls and you'll always remain in my heart
As we gathered inside of the gates, the whole gang back together again We couldn't accept you were gone How could someone be taken from us so damn young?
Oh is this fight over or has it just begun? Who are we to stop the war, act complacent? When there's still so much more to be done Oh is this fight over or is it just beginning? Who are we to lay down arms? Though it feels like we're all living in easier times There are still soldiers out on the front lines
I'm so grateful we reconnected again before the end There will always be a special place reserved for my first boyfriend (For you, my friend)
And there will never be another person like you (Sleep well, baby) It's clear from the turnout today - everyone else feels this too (Everyone feels this too)
Now your comrades all gather around as we lay you to rest in the ground But despite the fact that you're gone, all the causes you've fought so hard for will live on
Oh is this fight over? Hell no, it's just begun Who are we to stop the war, act complacent? When there's still so much more to be done (So we march to the beat of the soldiers) Oh is this fight over or is it just beginning? Who are we to lay down arms? Though it seems like we're all living in easier times There are still soldiers out on the front lines
Here's my new video for “Run With Us”, in the form of some late '80s/early '90s nostalgia! Going through old episodes of ‘The Raccoons’ and putting this retro video together has been such a fun and nostalgic process. A huge thank you to the show’s creator, Mr. Kevin Gillis, for his generosity in kindly granting me permission to compile footage from the show to create this music video! I hope you all enjoy this fun little blast from the past! :D Matt x

*August 2013* I've added Russian lyrics/subtitles to this video, in support of Russia's LGBTQ community. I believe it's extremely important for those of us who have freedom and equality to speak up for those who are having theirs taken away and who are being silenced every day. I wrote "Testament" as both a protest song against 'The Establishment', -- against out-dated rules, tradition and the old-fashioned notion of what it is to be 'normal' -- and also as a celebration of sexuality, freedom and personal liberation. The song is about challenging the system and choosing the path that is right for us, despite the obstacles that may have been put in our way. Sadly, our Russian brothers and sisters are having these choices taken away from them and it somehow felt right to translate the song into Russian. Hopefully this small gesture can help show young gay and LGBT Russians that they are not alone during this crazy time. Let's keep signing the petitions, protesting these draconian new laws and calling for action in every way we can. In solidarity...
TESTAMENT LYRICS [Russian] (Thanks to Martyn for the translation!)
LYRICS: Sick and tired of stupid people trying to get one over on me I have heard it all before "Times", we say, "they are a changing, everybody's getting better" So what's this guy cringing for?
He says: "What you do behind closed doors Doesn't really bother me at all"
I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home As long as it's not in front of me I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home As long as I don't have to see
He says: "Please don't say that I'm closed-minded Some of my best friends are like you And I don't really give a damn"
He says: "I am happy that you're happy You don't have to prove it to me" And then he turns and kisses the girl on his arm, and says:
"What you do behind closed doors Doesn't really bother me at all"
I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home As long as it's not in front of me I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home As long as I don't have to see
We came here for a quiet drink We're not trying to prove a point about anything And we don't thrive on shoving it in your faces Shoving it in your faces all the time
What you do behind closed doors Doesn't really bother me at all
I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home As long as it's not in front of me I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home (I don't wanna hear it anymore) As long as I don't have to see As long as I don't have to see
