This is far-and-away my favorite video game track of all time. In the arrangement, I kept trying to add things to it and nothing felt right. It felt like the song was everything it needed to be already. Instead, I just tried to modernize it, add some interesting harmony pieces, make sure the instruments all came through well, and really work on mixing it the best I could. I hope you enjoy our rendition.
Without a doubt, this is my best production quality so far, which is easy when you get excellent contributions from everyone. Slashbib CRUSHED the leads and bass. Allen (GameLark) and PegsterMcdudeson both came through with solid whistling tracks, despite the difficulty and range of the melody. It was a pleasure to work with all of them and they really delivered.
I’m unexplainably proud of this, in particular the outro card, which took embarrassingly long to put together the video and song for. Hopefully, when I look back on this in a few years, I’ll only cringe a little.

Note: Ended up having some background noise in the recording that I didn't notice until editing, so unfortunately had to stitch together a few takes together after the fact, so there's a couple blends instead of a single take.Prelude No. 8 by Manuel Ponce - Classical Guitarzaglamir2025-04-12 | Play through of Prelude No 8 in F#m written by Manuel Ponce, played by ZWMShipwreck found near Naubinway, MIzaglamir2025-02-10 | This is a shipwreck we found about 1/5 mile off the shore near Naubinway, MI (about 10 miles east of Naubinway proper) - in Lake Michigan. It looks to be a wooden schooner, relatively well preserved. Based on the research we've done so far (https://idnc.library.illinois.edu/?a=d&d=TMJ18951003.1.9&e=-------en-20--1--img-txIN---------- being the key find), we believe it to have wrecked in 1895 during a bad storm that also caused many other wrecks in Lakes Michicgan, Superior, and Huron . It is likely either the SS Skylark or the Ida A. Olsen, both ships were sunk on the same night, running aground near Naubinway. Both were owned by Capt. John Freer of Chicago and are the only documented shipwrecks near Naubinway that we can find. We intend to continue researching and submit this to the Michigan Government to add it to the list of known, preserved shipwrecks in Lake Michigan.Beginner Etude for Classical Guitar - Zach Millerzaglamir2025-02-09 | A few years back, I wrote this piece for a friend that was starting to learn guitar. Wanted something that sounded good, but didn't requires lots of different "hand shapes" so this relies on 3 basic shapes moved around on the fretboard.

Attempting to make something pleasant to listen to that has movement, multiple voices, and "ocean" waves as the only thing that has a non-random element, so that it keeps a sense of steady progression. Hopefully anyone that stumbles upon this finds it pleasant to listen to.
Note: this is my first full patch, so if you stumble across this looking for guidance - don't take any of this as right, I literally just messed around until it worked.A Storm Approaching - ZW Miller (2021)zaglamir2021-09-04 | Composed in the Notion App for iPad by ZW Miller in 2021.
This is an attempt at composing a single, symphony style piece in 4 movements, spanning one singular idea across more than 10 minutes of music; as well as writing for a full orchestra.Demystifying Data Science: What the Heck is Machine Learning - Zach Millerzaglamir2018-02-21 | A talk I gave in conjunction with the Chicago Public Library Speaker Series.
Due to technical problems, some extra editing had to be done to stitch together broken video parts. Extra text has been added to make up for the gaps.Fight On! FFVII - Gameboy Soundchip Coverzaglamir2016-08-26 | And now for something completely different. While getting back into the swing of things, I used the Deflemask Tracker to program in this cover using an emulator of the Gameboy soundchip. Enjoy!
Besides that, let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, I had a backup hard drive. It died. Three days later, before getting a new one, my actual hard drive died. I lost many hours worth of work on 3 different covers I was working on as well as all my settings, etc. However, I'm getting back to it, so expect covers and originals soon.Pokemon RBY - Recovery Theme Coverzaglamir2016-03-19 | I wanted a challenge for the upcoming Pokemon Album from the Pixel Mixers (www.reddit.com/r/VGCovers), so I took on a song with only 5 lead notes. It was fun to try to expand the arrangement, and I think it turned out well.
As my attempt to make improvements for this cover, I implemented a green screen. I still need some practice, but for a first go, I'm pretty proud of the result. It will be making more appearances in the future. Enjoy!Challenger Approaching - Zaglamirzaglamir2016-02-25 | A video to introduce my channel to the masses, thanks to GameLark Remixes for this opportunity! Challenger Approaching is a series of videos on the GameLark Remixes channel to introduce smaller Video Game Cover channels to more people. I put the video on my channel, he puts it on his, and everybody wins.
Check out GameLark, the premiere place to go for all your VGM playlist and interview needs.
They submitted killer parts and were a joy to collaborate with. If by some chance you know my channel and not theirs, you owe it to yourself to checkout what they are doing.
I really love this track and wanted to stretch it out and see how we could explore the theme with different approaches... and then I wanted a nice atmospheric intro to build into it. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Lots of "new for 2016" to debut: my new video editing software, which made the 900 picture-in-picture style possible, the new avatar, and the new end-slate. Hopefully you like them as much as I do.
Also, that thumbnail may be the greatest thing I've achieved thus far in my life. That's up for debate.
Major thanks to Swiggles1987 and VinceOnAPlane for advice about mixing. Hopefully I didn't let it go to waste.

More covers are in the pipeline, but I wanted to mess with Open-G, so this is the result.Video Game Challenge - An Original Albumzaglamir2015-10-17 | I decided to challenge myself to create music for a hypothetical video game (thus the title). I used MuseScore and whatever soundfonts I could cobble together for free from the internet. I'm not apologizing for the product, but my experience has definitely taught me that I could have chosen a better software, which would avoid some of the audio glitches and "cheesy MIDI" sounds. Live and learn. Still, I felt it an accomplishment, so I'm sharing it anyway. The tracks are listed below:

This is my second submission for the GameTabs FFVIII Tribute Album.
Drifting is actually a somewhat boring piece... it suits its scene very well, but for being on an album... listening to just a few chords for 3 minutes is not a great plan. I added what I could to make it more interesting, and wanted to go for a post-rock vibe. First time mixing vocals/being a choir. Definitely a fun experience. Might continue to use choral techniques in future videos.
(Any sync issues are due to crappy video editing software. I've exported this thing seven times now, and I'm done messing with it).

This is my entry for the Gametabs.net Final Fantasy VIII Tribute album. This track is Garden Master Norg's theme and plays for about 20 seconds in the game. This was definitely not my style, but I wanted to challenge myself to make it into something similar to the original, but with more layers. Hopefully at least someone will enjoy it. No video recorded for this one, as my keyboard skills aren't high enough and I would have had to record 20 hours worth of takes for 2 minutes of video. Hopefully this in-game footage will stand in admirably. Cheers!
DAW and VSTs: Studio One Artist 3 Piano: Williams Overture 88Forest Maze - Super Mario RPG Coverzaglamir2015-07-04 | This track is quite nostalgic for me, but I always felt like it needed to be a bit slower and heavier. The juxtaposition of "happy" music with a maze full of enemies always seemed weird to me, so I decided to see what I could do in terms of making it sound different. I also wanted to end in a way that made it feel unresolved and uncomfortable, since the track is really just a 20 second loop.
Unfortunately, the video was shot after the recording as I didn't realize I had turned off the auto-focus while recording the first time and almost all of the shots were blurry, so there are some minor sync issues.
This is my first track since the Level-Up Challenge, and I feel like it shows now that I've seen all the tutorials and this has a much better sound. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Next step is to figure out mastering.

Really, this is my first time doing any recording of my music. I did a video for a Mad World cover, but all I did there was record the sound and adjust volume levels, so this is my first time through a real mixing and mastering process. Mad World was also recorded at roughly the same time as this.
Unfortunately, I'm moving so I can't wait for the last sections of Swiggles1987 Tutorial before uploading. Thus, my first attempts at a) mixing/mastering and b) using compression are blind attempts. This is also my first time programming drums, so feedback there would be great. I look forward to everyone telling me how to make it sound better in future attempts!

As it turns out, it's also really fun to play. Thought it might be fun to give it a little more of blues feel before getting into the standard "rock" version. I wanted there to be a bit of a breakdown, and thought, "hey, why not mandolin?" Thus, this version of the track.
Mixing feels a bit stronger in this one, though mixing the distorted guitars prove to be a bit of a challenge. Also, lighting was a bit better for the video, so that seemed to turn out nicer.Mad World - Instrumental Coverzaglamir2014-12-21 | Cover of Gary Jules (Michael Andrews) arrangement of "Mad World," originally by Tears for Fears.
