Ever since I started arranging VGM, I've been searching on and off for a video game song that is completely unpitched percussion so I could arrange it for three drum sets. The progressive rock band King Crimson's most recent formation was a massive 7 or 8 piece roster (depending on the year), and that included three drummers that often played different parts at the same time. In addition, the drummers wrote new pieces just for them to play, and listening to these made me stretch my internal concept of "chamber music".And yes, this channel has undergone a rebrand! 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim- Seaside Vacation (for Bassoon Sextet+, ft. friends and family!) Andrew Gossett Music 2024-10-07 | Reminiscing on the warm weather with 5 wonderful collaborators!This is definitely the biggest music project in the history of this channel, and probably the biggest audio project that I've ever done (close to the Virtual Video Game Orchestra mixtape tracks I've arranged); 40 tracks of audio from 22 individual parts. I believe a friend of mine turned me on to this song a couple years back. I just love all of the textures and depth of the original, and I kept as much depth as I could with the instruments I chose to write for.My dad Kevin and sister Athena [@athenajadegossett385] are back on the bass and guitar respectively; ever-present thanks to them for being great collaborators IRL and in recordings!Three more non-family-member collaborators join the fray this time. Mother 3- Flowers (for Bassoon Sextet+, ft. friends and family!) Andrew Gossett Music 2024-08-27 | Frolicking through the sunflowers with the @PixelMixers!The Mother series absolutely has an underrated soundtrack; it has everything from lyrical, heart-wrenching melodies to head-bopping grooves. I knew a few of the songs before track claiming started for PM Rockin', but as I listened through the master licensable-song playlist they curated, this one stood out. I love the "overture-esque" feel of Flowers, partially because it's technically a medley of 3 songs: "Shower Time Ballad" (0:00), "Letter from You, My Sweet" (1:01), and "Mother?!" (1:43). The Mother 3i soundtrack album has multiple medleys like this.This song was a perfect opportunity to utilize many different instruments and sounds; for the first time in one of my covers on this channel, the bassoon takes a back seat for most of the song! I'm fortunate enough to have access to 2 octaves of handbells thanks to the church I go to, and this will definitely not be the last arrangement they'll be used for.The use of phone app instruments is not new on this channel, but it's the first time in video form. GeoShred (made by Wizdom Music, founded by Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater) is a very powerful app, primarily used for synth sounds in my use, although it has some good acoustic sounds in more premium versions. I initially downloaded Keylimba because a D&D character I played at the time had a kalimba built into his shield, but it has multiple other sounds, including a pretty comparable flute sound to the original song.My sister Athena got a Boss SY-1 guitar synthesizer pedal this past Christmas, and it's quite useful for controlling a wide array of sounds, whether you're in a prog rock band from the 80s, or you're simulating bell and string sounds for a VGM arrangement.Despite the wide variety of instruments that my family can play, none of us are very confident keyboard players, which is why I was very glad to have Travis Salim (@TravisSalimVGM) play the electric piano. Since the start of this semester, I started doing some jazz combo jams with these two guys (Harrison on piano, myself, Andrew, on drums, and Leo on bass) in the great outdoors of our college’s campus, and I’ve very much enjoyed them. We mainly have been reading out of the Real Book, but all of us are into VGM, so we decided to make some charts and read them. Chrono Trigger- Secret of the Forest (for Bassoon Sextet+) Andrew Gossett Music 2022-05-31 | I'm back from school for the summer, and that means I have more time for uploads! It also gave me time to learn a new editing software, DaVinci Resolve, which gave me quite the experience, but it should get better as I edit more.I tried to explore a few different styles in this arrangement, including chorale-esque pads, a half time groove, and even a combined "bossa backbeat" in the second half. In addition to playing bassoon and drums, I used MuseScore's "mallet synthesizer" soundfont to add to the vibe. This is my entry for the #SoundoleChillOut2022 competition, and I'm looking forward to hearing the other entries! I plan to release multiple other covers (most are either fully or partially written) in the coming months, so stay tuned.

This time I added some extra synth parts with apps on my iPhone (specifically GarageBand and GeoShred, check them out!) to fill out the higher frequencies of the song. Theme from Exandria Unlimited (for Bassoons and Percussion) Andrew Gossett Music 2021-08-12 | Exandria Unlimited is a summer mini-series of the Dungeons and Dragons Twitch and YouTube channel Critical Role, in which "a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sit around and play Dungeons and Dragons". I started being a Critter (as they call their fans) with ExU, and I've enjoyed it so much that I wanted to make a tribute to it! Composed by Colm R. McGuinness, this opening theme is the first piece originally with classical instrumentation that I've covered on this channel, and narrowing all of the textures in it to six bassoons and various percussion was fairly difficult, but this is what came out of it! This features my sibling on timpani. More to come in the future.
