These are the official MIDIs of the original full-length versions of "Into the Fortress" and "The Serpent" from Blake Stone: Planet Strike. The MIDIs were downloaded from Bobby Prince's website using the Wayback Machine. "Into the Fortress" was originally written for Aliens of Gold but ended up being used in Planet Strike. According to Bobby's website, memory limitations at the time meant all the songs unfortunately had to be significantly reduced in length in order to be usable in-game. These are so far the only full Blake Stone tracks released by Bobby.
The recordings in this video were made with CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth 2.11.2 and Arachno SoundFont 1.0.
The song titles and copyright notices were found in the MIDIs' metadata.
Blake Stone was developed by JAM Productions and published by Apogee Software.

0:00 - SC-55mkII (official recording by id Software, from Unity re-release)
1:37 - SCVA-55 (SOUND Canvas VA v1.16 [S] with SC-55 map)
3:15 - VSC (Virtual Sound Canvas VST v1.60 from VSC-MP1)
4:53 - VSC, no reverb
6:31 - Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth on Windows 10, gm.dls comments: 960920 ver. 1.00.16
Notes:
* MIDI volume lowered by 23% for VSC and MS Synth recordings to better match SC(VA)-55's output level.
* SCVA does not play cymbal chokes correctly. Note how the cymbals at 1:46 incorrectly ring out.
* MS Synth's Picked Bass samples are from the SC-88 (native map) instead of the SC-55.

VI.ONE v1.1 is a Kontakt sample library workstation containing 2,120 total NKI instruments (including 27 keyswitch versions of the orchestral instruments, 128 General MIDI melodic instruments, and 8 GS drumkits) plus 20 multis. The library is 13.6 GB when lossless NCW compressed, and the uncompressed size is 21.0 GB. The General MIDI samples are 24.4 MB when lossless NCW compressed (the uncompressed size is 31.5 MB), as they only make up a tiny fraction of the workstation's sample data. VI.ONE's price is US $99.95. I do not recommend purchasing VI.ONE solely for obtaining its mere 32 MB worth of GM sounds, as this is a workstation intended for composing original music rather than just General MIDI playback.

Some compromises had to be made as the Game Boy has only 4 channels, whereas the game's original song plays up to 10 notes at once.

Robotnik boss music from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, redone in 8-bit/Game Boy format.
I used more effects than I did in my previous version (which can be heard in this video: youtu.be/AtQRhhmXdhY), but it is still not as good as VinylCheese's cover :) (available here: youtu.be/_NOfex1muME)

All xmi files were played and recorded in real-time with Winamp (which unfortunately produces some audible pops/stutter; I haven't found a good way to record xmis). Gmtheme.mid was played with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.00.
0:00 - scmusic.xmi - From "The Terminator 2029" (1992)
2:29 - intro.xmi - From "The Terminator: Rampage" (1993) (this track is also featured in "The Terminator: Future Shock"/"SkyNET" as title.hmi)
4:10 - win.xmi - From "The Terminator: Rampage"
5:40 - gmtheme.mid - This track appears to be an official MIDI arrangement of the Terminator 2 movie theme, and was apparently converted from an xmi file that was exclusive to the floppy disk version of "The Terminator: Future Shock" (1995)
The Terminator theme was composed by Brad Fiedel
The Terminator MIDIs were sequenced by Bethesda Softworks
All files were played and recorded in real-time with Winamp, using CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth for midiOut. The Terminator 2 movie theme MIDI (from the floppy disk version of The Terminator: Future Shock) has not been included here as it only plays correctly on a Roland Sound Canvas or other GS-compatible device.
0:00 - scmusic.xmi - From "The Terminator 2029" (1992)
2:28 - intro.xmi - From "The Terminator: Rampage" (1993) (this track is also featured in "The Terminator: Future Shock"/"SkyNET" as title.hmi)
4:05 - win.xmi - From "The Terminator: Rampage"
Note: The tracks end abruptly with a "pop" because of how Winamp's MIDI playback/looping works. I could not find a program that could correctly convert the xmis to standard MIDI files for playback in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 (which would fix the popping issue), so I had to use Winamp with its native xmi support for playback.

0:00 - DOOM II Title
0:18 - Map05 "DOOM"
These two tracks demonstrate this card's unique sound. The DOOM II title has a cool synth "growl" effect at the end (Synth Strings 2), and the bass in Map 5 is dark and acidic (Synth Bass 2). Many GM synths and soundfonts do not play those instruments in that style (e.g., most GM banks typically have a "fat" sound for the Synth Bass 2 slot), with the exception of the original Roland SC-55 hardware.

Notice that some of the choir notes in E1M8 are missing completely. The same issue is present on the original hardware, so it is not a fault of the emulation.

The synth voices are a little shrill, but otherwise this is a pretty good GM bank.

This synth does not completely ruin the marching sound (which is simulated by the Gunshot patch), but it sounds a bit like someone hitting a door with a hammer.
DOOM II's music was composed by Bobby Prince.
Reducing the soundfont's volume in CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth does not help much, as distortion/artifacts are present in the samples themselves (CoolSoft's volume was set to 100% for this video, to make it a fair comparison with the other soundfont recordings of this same track. The internal sample clipping is still noticeable even at 50% volume, particularly on the Charang).
Now, I am really not trying to attack this soundfont or its creators. I am simply trying to give fair and honest feedback on how this soundfont sounds in CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth, especially since this is one of the only ones I've tried that has all the issues mentioned above.
Edit: I have uploaded a recording with CoolSoft's soundfont volume set to 20% (the distortion is still there, but it's a little easier on the ears): youtu.be/_7QQ-et4Bvc

I like the Doo Vox here, despite it sounding a little silly and the soundfont having poor balance for its size. However, the Synth Bass sounds too close to a Sawtooth and doesn't really fit General MIDI usage.

Bandstand crashes when trying to record this MIDI file, so I played the track with Winamp.
The drums are excessively weak (and this MIDI's drum channel volume is the max value of 127!). Bandstand's balance is so bad that the MIDI's individual note velocities would have to be modified in a fullblown sequencer to make the drums audible.
That glitch at 1:27 is Bandstand attempting to, and failing to, play a gunshot sound. That happens every time the MIDI is played.
