I happened to stumble over an old pattern/track i played at Fono KL many moons ago. This track actually never made itself all the way of becoming a real tune so i decided.. hey why not just remodel it a little bit, add some 303 squares and saw for taste and jam a bit? Said and done! Starting slowly with this playful and (sort of dubby) minimal tune where the Norand Mono has 11 step pattern and the Avalon Bassline a 9 step pattern. It takes a long time for these two loops to align and play the same thing twice so it helps to create this dynamic movement which i enjoy very much... I am more or less letting the synths play their own stuff and enjoying the ride.This is all connected together with no mixer, Norand and Avalon into L+R in on the analog four, analog four into L+R on the digitakt. The digitakt has some compression on the stereo bus out and recorded directly into a Zoom H5 stereo track. Here is a little video for you all to show some signs of life from the BURG HQ.I bought this cheap little Yamaha Porta sound synth to have in the den, writing songs and capturing ideas... this is one of the first ideas/melodies that came out (prly something i have done before), and i thought, why not just play the melody with the PSS-380 and make a video? It actually sounds pretty good, albeit a bit noisy... but still pretty enjoyable. Since it runs on batteries i can play everywhere in the house so whenever i have an idea i can just turn it on and work on the melodies. Also, it is actually pretty powerful, the FM section has some direct controls to adjust SPECTRUM/MODULATION, which give access to what sounds like the operator order and modulation of the same, pretty cool stuff.What you hear is the PSS-380 through the ms70 CDR zoom FX pedal ( carbon delay, particle reverb ) and the EHX 720 stereo looper for the bass melody. Some new tunes from the BURG :)I am working hard on trying to fight a massive writers block not being able to finish my album.. so i decided to upgrade my AKAI force to the awesome new release 3.1 and run my 100 year old piano through it to see what happens.. said and done..You will most probably hear a lot of noises ( not kidding here ), room ambience, breathing and my chair creaking.. this is because the microphone picks up just about everything in the room, not so much i can do about this. Also to all the piano players out there, please excuse my rusty mediocre playing, Im not really a pianist in any way, just a happy good old synthesist! :) The AKAI force has the new FX granulator which i wanted to try, also some compressor and reverb as inserts on the piano channel, the microphone is connected straight into the force ( how awesome is it that it provides +48V phantom power? ). Second channel is the Avalon Bassline, also with some granulator and reverb. Kick and ARP synth are both from the force triggered as clips.I realised it was extremely hard to mix the piano and also give it the right amount of FX due to overhearing the actual sound and not the FX portion in my headphones. I think that this will have some significant changes for the final version of the track.. and when multitracking it I will most probably change the intro section a bit plus also ensure it builds up in a more cohesive way.AKAI force, as usual is handling the main drums, sequencing the sub37, monologue, ASM hydrasynth and the volca bass. TR 707 adds some simpler hihats, digitakt adds some extra percussion. Digitone, Peak, Analog Four are not in use.The ms-20 starts the track off, paired with a long wobbly delay in the el Capistan. At the 3.30 mark i play the dreadbox erebus from the force pads.. a bit tricky but it worked ok. I have been working a lot lately, spending time away from the studio which just pushed me into a dark hole of musical procrastination. I decided to go back to basics just using a couple of instruments playing a simple melody i have had glued to my brain for some time... and hey it worked, out came this tune :)The melody is probably destined for something a bit bigger so I'll keep this one in my back pocket for now as there are still some unexplored variations to the main theme.A note on the high pitched audible noise from time to time, this is a known problem in my studio setup when i forget to turn off the main studio computer which is connected to the mixer. This is caused by some sort of ground loop or interference, very annoying. When I am lacking inspiration I always try and break things down into lesser components.. like on this jam where i just use the Digitakt and the two volcas.I didn't want to make percussion on the digitakt, the idea on this one is to try and explore how it can be used as a synth while jamming on the volcas. I am playing the bass sound + some simple stabs and sequence style sounds on it. Pretty fun setup, and really nice compact workflow .. eg easy to reach between the volcas and the digitakt controls.Also, there are some errors in the track, but i decided to keep the song as is.. even though i had takes with no errors this one had the best overall feeling to it. Today the Moog Subsequent gets a rundown, a moody laid back tune that that popped up straight off the bat when i turned the sub37 on.All you hear in the track is the subsequent 37, with bass loop from the same pre-recorded into the EHX 720 stereo looper which kicks in halfway through the track. FX on duty is ICE delay algorithm on the timeline, plus a modulated room reverb in the bluesky.The sub37 Filter envelopes are set to looping/latched, so the synth is in latch mode all through the track, forcing me to adapt my playing on the keyboards to ensure proper demarcation of the single and duo mode (set to low note prio) when alternating between one and two keys pressed.This playing technique give a very wide palette with just the one sound, no need to swap patches, just play two notes for more mellow melodies, alternate to one key mono style for that larger 2VCO sound.Gear Used:- Moog Subsequent 37- Strymon Timeline- Strymon Bluesky- Electro Harmonix 720 Stereo LooperAll recorded down on 2 track, Zoom H5#moog #subsequent37 #strymon

Main sounds are, bass from the KORG volca bass + the Avalon Bassline driving the tune with percussion from the digitakt and modular + some hihats and snare from the TR-8s. When I started writing the new album in 2018, it slowly turned into an imaginary soundtrack that began telling the tales of a silent earth, long lost friends and family, and a planet scorched deeply by the chaos it has been subjected to. The album is heavily influenced by early 70's and 80's sci-fi movies, from back in the day when the stories were slower and took longer time to tell because they were important to the director, and set the foundation and style of the genre.One of the missing pieces when the album got close to completion was the last track, the one that plays at the end of the movie while the end credits are rolling, the track that gives the listener a slight feeling of hope from all the despair.I paired up with I Speak Machine for a collaboration over at their Patreon, Tara Busch lending her unique voice and aesthetics to the title track. The eurorack takes care of some advanced percussion, noise tools (white noise hhs), plonk for toms, BIA for some metal style percussion. Braids and Rings does some random sequences with washes of clouds and shimmer reverbs.. small textures to help fill the small gaps inbetween the beats.TR-8S does 707 kick and snare plus some simpler hihats, bass from the volca bass sequenced from digitone. While programming it, I was like.. what the heck, let's record something. :)The KORG grandstage has a decent string machine emulation / sample which i use on the intro. Also from the grandstage but recorded in the 720 stereo looper is a Rhodes piano loop.NLA1 does bass pads + a loop I recorded into the ditto, a rotary/tremolo and LFO modulated slow arpeggio thing. They both pass through the empress reverb which uses the Ghost algorithm, heavy on modulation.The peak does 8 note sequence programmed using the Keystep. Some internal minor modulation on filters, with an LFO plus Envelopes. Internal peak FX are only used on this sound.Sub 37 does the most complex things on this one, 3 distinct variations on one and the same patch. The first one is vanilla lead with some filter drive, with no modulation 2VCO + very little sub. Second part is that I also do a super fast arpeggio which i turn on just to add some extra spice toward mid track, using the same sound.Lastly, I turn up the EG on the filter on which I have set the filter envelope looping so i can adjust the speed of the loops with the attack knob to create a pingpong effect you hear at the end. While playing with the attack turned up in the beginning it sort of sounds like a normal LFO. I wanted to make a little bit bigger session to balance the #BURG1K session i have been doing for the past few weeks. :)Track started out experimenting with the uO_C, using it in harrington 1200 with the 3x A111-3 VCOs from doepfer. Very fun to finally be able to make some chords in the modular, this is one of the reasons I wanted to get a bigger case.Also, the BIA is doing percussion, Rings is doing.. well what rings does plus the MI tides (with sheep fw) doing some wavetable action. Great fun patch, with a lot of modulation going on.Also new is the digitone, but it is not really doing much .. just sequencing the vBass (low end) plus some FX processing for the korg vKeys.Tricking out the monologues as a 2xVCO main lead sound on this one BURG style, as you can hear the filter is not really ms-20.. but it is close enough. Paired with the strymon el capistan it gets that nice tape style vibe.TR8s on 707 drums + some extra percussion from the digitakt, and the avalon bassline, well, does a bassline :)I hope you will enjoy this one! Also, letting the volca bass show its low end capabilities.. oh my does it rumble. You have to (with very big emphasis) listen to the track in proper headphones or speakers, else you will miss out on lots of the bass information.The LFO is working the filter in the vBass, and also with the attack it bubbles pretty wildly, so there is a fair bit of envelope clicks here and there in the volca when notes come in, this is expected.I have two patches stored in the monologue, standard vanilla 2x sawtooth + LFO on pitch to give it a slight vibrato. I wanted to showcase how a looper can be used by just creating a little simple loop to glue together the spaces and silence in a more ambient track.The looper has a really short simple three note melody structure recorded with the vBass.The Volca Bass (and the looper) has in the ms70 a fifth / ICE delay algorithm which i think is based on one of the strymon timeline sounds. It is excellent for cheating a bit, e.g creating chord like structures with single note melodies.Volca Keys does two parts, intro solo sounds plus a sequence in the second half of the track synched with the vBass.The signal is a little hot at times, still mixing in the headphones so apologies for that :) BoOoM! I wanted to break out from using four on the floor patterns and do something a bit slower, but still with some groove.The drumbrute has just a little bit of swing/shuffle.. to give that moving feeling and to make sure it does not become too static.On the volca bass, i have several patterns i switch between that has the second VCO recorded with different notes, and by switching the patterns i can sort of play a pre defined melody. :) This helps with variation in the song.I still have not decided how to expand the setup with fully.
