Aluminum Standoffs Machined in the CNC Lathe Abom79 2024-03-30 | I machined a small batch of aluminum parts using our @MilltronicsUSAInc ML16 cnc lathe. Hardtail Vise Ep. 22: Internal Shaping to Fit Dynamic Jaw Abom79 2024-03-16 | As we get to the final machining needed for our Hardtail vise, we'll get the inside area of the fixed jaw body machined to fit the dynamic jaw. For this I will be using the G&E shaper and a 12" long bar I made to cut the four corners that hold the dynamic jaw in the center. This was no simple task by any means but it was a great challenge to work on and I am excited to share this with everyone. We'll first have to modify our shaper fixture plate to hold the vise for machining. Once we get that done we'll get the vise setup, indicated and start working on machining the chin section of the static jaw body. Machine Sump Cleaning & Coolant Filtering Using a CECOR Sump Shark Abom79 2024-02-27 | Paul from CECOR came by the shop to give me some helpful tip and tricks on how to use their Sump Shark for cleaning out and maintaining machine coolant sumps. This coolant filtration machine makes the mundane tasks of extracting coolant, oils, sludge and chips from sumps a much easier task to handle and also serves as a filtration unit as well. Paul goes over some of the basic functions of the machine, how it works, and tips on it's use including the cleanup of the tank. It was some valuable information to learn. Hardtail Vise Build Ep.19: Tail Housing Op.1 Abom79 2024-02-17 | The next component part in line to be machined is the "Hardtail", the part in which the vise was named after. The housing gets bolted onto the back of the vise and holds the nut in place. This will be tackled in two separate setups. First setup we'll get the outboard end machines where the nut slide though. Once that is finished we'll flip it 180 and finish the inboard side with the flange. This was another CNC learning job for me. Hardtail Vise Build Ep.18: Swivel Base Counterbore Abom79 2024-02-13 | The final machined surface for the swivel base I wanted to pull off on the cnc mill. With Fusion 360 I used a 2D Bore cycle to quickly and easily milled the angular wall of the counterbore and cleaned up the bottom face to the spec needed. With the bottom face machined the base now has the proper clearance to pivot on the swivel bolt. Steel Flanges Drilled & Tapped Abom79 2024-01-20 | I received a small batch of 6 steel flanges that needed two sets of bolt hole patterns drilled and drilled & tapped. This was a great opportunity to continue learning how to use Fusion 360 to create a CAM program to machine these parts. This was a good practice job for me while I study Fusion 360 and using my @MilltronicsUSAInc cnc machines. In this video I'll share the turning work using the Milltronics ML16 cnc lathe. Pinion Shafts Milled in the CNC Abom79 2023-11-14 | We continue our first job using Fusion 360 for CAD & Cam and successfully machine two 5mm keyways in the pinion shafts in our Milltronics cnc mill. Pinion Shafts Turned in the CNC Lathe Abom79 2023-11-11 | I have recently gotten back into training with Fusion 360 and this job is the first project that I have successfully drawn up using the Fusion CAD and CAM. These parts are pinion shafts for cnc routers that are no longer available from the manufacturer and my customer wanted a batch of 8 to have as spares. It took some trial and errors but after getting the program adjusted I was able to knock out 8 shafts that were dead on accurate in a very short amount of time. Tool Tuesday Ep.8: Installing New 6 Jaw TMX Set-True Chuck on Milltronics CNC Lathe Abom79 2023-11-07 | I am upgrading the chuck on the Milltronics cnc lathe from an 8" 3 jaw to a 10" 6 jaw set-true chuck made by Toolmex. TMX chucks are high quality, made in Europe and have proven to be dependable and true. The ability to adjust the chuck to near zero runout and have half a thou repeatability is definitly an improvement that really helps when chucking up parts that are already finished on one side.
