Learn about Public Health Entomology Internships, Fellowships, and Research Positions Entomological Society of America 2022-10-11 | Attendees will learn about the Public Health Entomology for All internships, fellowships, and research positions for 2023 and how they can apply. Successful applicants will work at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Fort Collins, or San Juan. There will be six internships for college students, four one-year fellowships for recent graduates, and four two-year research positions for scientists who will have earned a graduate degree by June 2023. Applicants must have attended a Minority Serving Institution and be interested in public health entomology and equity.

2021 Founders Memorial Award Lecture Entomological Society of America 2022-01-28 | Vernard Lewis, Ph.D., BCE, emeritus cooperative extension specialist at the University of California, Berkeley, delivered the Founders' Memorial Award lecture at Entomology 2021, the Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).The subject of Dr. Lewis' lecture was Margaret Collins, Ph.D. (1922–1996), a legendary Black entomologist and civil rights advocate whose five-decade career earned her the nickname "Termite Lady," for her foundational contributions to scientific understanding of termite desiccation resistance.The Founders' Memorial Award was established in 1958 to honor the memory of scientists who made outstanding contributions to entomology. 2020 Founders Memorial Award Lecture Entomological Society of America 2020-11-25 | Michelle Samuel-Foo, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Alabama State University, delivered the Founders’ Memorial Award lecture at Entomology 2020, the annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).The subject of Dr. Samuel-Foo’s lecture was Ernest J. Harris, Ph.D. (1928-2018), a distinguished entomologist internationally recognized for his work on fruit fly eradication and techniques for mass rearing of insects used for biological control. Dr. Harris’ work with the release of sterile Mediterranean fruit flies in California in the 1970s resulted in effective control of the pest. The technologies he helped develop have been key to eradicating invasive fruit flies in California, Florida, and other U.S. mainland states, as well as internationally. Dr. Harris authored hundreds of papers and was recognized with honors including a place in the USDA-Agricultural Research Service Hall of Fame and the Congressional Gold Medal, one of the highest civilian awards in the United States.The Founders' Memorial Award was established in 1958 to honor the memory of scientists who made outstanding contributions to entomology.
