The Hints of Spring

A Morning In My Life

Finding Balance

I have been working over the last handful of months to find balance in myself and with nature and I believe that I have finally struck it. Settling In to Our New Home

These last few weeks have felt like turning over a new leaf. The longer light of spring and the fresh herbs from the wilds have sparked so much inspiration and creativity - and I have found so much joy in this time.
We have been able to settle in more to our new home and it's been wonderful to have time to reconnect to my passions.

Entering a New Time

There are so many new and exciting changes ahead!

In this video I completed a spell for the new year and checked on my headache oil experiment - so far I'm very pleased and am going to start some further studies with them soon. I also crafted a rosemary hair wash that I've been in love with as of late

I am testing olive oil and jojoba oil to see how they each preform in a medicinal sense with a headache recipe composed of pine and mint

I simply make a very potent rosemary tea and add it to a spray bottle - I spray it on my hair most every day to add strength to it and I keep it in the fridge between uses.

I Gave Up

Annabel Margaret 2021-12-06 | A year ago today I gave up... Then I made a change. I couldn't have imagined that my life would be where it is today but last year this all felt so far away if not entirely impossible.
There's so much power in letting go and looking at things from a different perspective. I know that this is only my experience and it is different for everybody but in truth looking back a year, five years, or even ten to where you are now is such an incredible thing.

Cozying Up as the Wintertide Begins

This past week I decided to take advantage of the rain and slow down - taking the chance to be still again

Simple Bread Recipe:
What you'll Need
2.25 teaspoons yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1.25 cup warm water (100 - 110 F)
1.5 teaspoons salt
2.5 cups bread flour
dutch oven

combine yeast, sugar, and warm water in a mixing bowl and cover with a tea towel for 5 minutes allowing it to proof until the yeast is foamy

once time has passed add in the salt and a bit of flour. Slowly mix together - adding in the flour bit by bit as you go. - you may need to add in more flour/water depending on your climate

Once the mixture is completely combined and smooth (it should be sticky) form it into a ball and lightly coat with flour. Place the dough into an oiled bowl and cover it with a tea towel. Allow it to rise for 1 hour in a warm place or until doubled in size.

Once time has passed gently tip the dough onto a flour surface and begin forming it by folding in the corners until it becomes tight. Place it back into an oiled bowl and allow it to rise for another 30 minutes. Start preheating the oven (with the dutch oven inside) to 460 F now.

Once dough is proofed, coat it with flour and score it if desired. Place the dough into the warmed dutch oven and then bake for 30 minutes with the lid on plus an additional 10 - 20 with the lid off.

Allow to cool and then enjoy!

Pine and Peppermint Headache Oil:
for this recipe I am doing an experiment with both olive oil and jojoba oil. Olive oil has traditionally been my go to for any sort of oil I'm working with medicinally or magickally but I want to start experimenting with a few new ones as well!
To make this I simply took enough pine needles and dried peppermint leaves to fill up my jars and then I coated them with the oil. I have them now setting in a dark place for 6 weeks - shaking them every now and again to keep them infusing and then I will be crafting salves or balms from what results!

A Powerful End to a Terrifying Time | The Cabin is No Longer Haunted

Thank you so much to Olivia - the witch of wonderlust for coming out here and helping me to get rid of the haunting here and saving my beautiful table and the cabin. It's been a long month - I never really expected to buy a haunted antique table but I suppose it comes with the territory and there is certainly something to be said about being apart of the craft and the energy pull that has. But thankfully we got everything figured out and I feel so much more at peace again and it was truly wonderful to get to see a friend again.
I also finalized a goldenrod oil and my plantain oil with only minimal struggle which was lovely and finally ended the vlog out by the water - which made it a bit difficult to hear and I apologize I will keep that in mind for the future

After the Storm

We weathered the bomb cyclone that came through last week - I was initially very concerned about flooding or just the potential for floods and has spent the week prior sandbagging the house in preparation but when the storms came through all ended up being alright. There were a couple of high tides and some exciting winds but all in all it could have been much worse than it ended up being.

Preparing For the Storm

Today started with news of a big storm and so naturally as I always tend to do - I put it off until it started pouring rain and then I had to spring into action to make sure all was good! That's just how life goes I suppose! Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy :)

Facing My Biggest Fear

Annabel Margaret 2021-10-17 | Two years ago, I had my last central line removed.

For years, I had been attached to picc, port, and hickman lines to help manage symptoms and complications caused by my chronic illness (EDS, or Ehlers-Danlos Sydrome with the added complications of POTS and Gastroparesis). Each line was changed or removed after failure or infection, and the lines themselves caused multiple serious complications--two blood infections and a blood clot. I'm not sure what caused the blood infections but they are a common and serious issue that can arise with central lines. The threat of infection makes various precautions necessary, such as following sterile protocol and never submerging the line underwater.

After the last blood infection, my doctors and I decided it was time to try and manage everything through only my feeding tube. It was a terrifying time as I hadn't been functional prior to the lines. Somehow, everything went fine, and I even began to get better. Plus, I was free from all the danger and risks that the central lines carried.

Today, I am healthier than I've been in over a decade. Last year, when my health began to enter an upswing, I decided to grab the opportunity and discover where I could go. I wasn't sure how long it would last--a year later I'm still not sure!

But so far it's been going steady, and I am living the life I had only ever dreamed of!

However, all that time spent dealing with complications and struggling with my health left many scars and ingrained fears that I only truly realized after I began my journey to living life fully again.

My biggest fears pertain mainly to the rules I had to follow to keep myself safe and alive while attached to central lines 24/7. Today I decided it was time to face the greatest fear left over from that time--being fully submerged underwater.

I know it's safe now, and I won't let that fear to hold me back any longer.

This experience was terrifying and thrilling and powerful. I'm ready to face more and enter all the new beginnings that are to come.
