Just the Simple Things side by side comparison SQ 2024-12-17 | I just think side-by-sides are neat.Actual AMV here: youtube.com/watch?v=Dot_tucOmAY!!! FLASHING AND STROBING AT CLIMAX !!!Left side is virtually no effects - it only keeps the base speed ramps (unless they were reversed, then they were played forward for the comparison). The right is the finished version.This vid wasn't that complex. Beyond the 30 second climax, it was a very easy raw edit with only 4 masks. Some stuff I deliberately didn't mask because I was lazy.First note-worthy mask is in the thumbnail and at 0:41 where I simply turned the frown upside down. The 2nd mask is 1:59 - 2:00 where I actually had to redraw quite a bit of her face to hide lip flap due to the way her hair moves, but did kind of a crappy job and decided I didn't care about the sky moving or anything (I also decided I would never do anything like that again because I found it too frustrating). A similar problem occurred at the end of the toilet scene at 2:22 where I didn't mask anything and decided I didn't care enough about the lip flap.But I did take the time to redraw the counter and wall on the left at 2:05 though for the close-up (and thus 3rd mask).The 4th and final real mask is 1:48 so I could let my man take a smoke break while dealing with the lower fps of those 2 annoying buffoons.Anyway, that's just the stuff outside the climax - the climax has a lot of masks and it probably took longer than the rest of the vid. But I'm also not super happy with how it came out despite redoing it twice. So I'd rather not talk about it LOL.This amv in particular I probably could've spent a lot more time cleaning up (even outside the climax), but I was simply tired of it and I thought the effort to make it "perfect" wasn't worth it and it stood out well enough as it currently was.Like my last side-by-side, there's nothing particularly ground-breaking in this vid; I just think side by sides are neat and if they're not super hard to do I'll probably do them for most of my releases in the future.(some effects-heavy vids are very difficult to do comparisons for)If anything, I think this vid is a much better example of just how often editors flip, reverse, and color grade clips. Manually Framing 4k video for 1080p AMVs [Wayward Wayfinder comparison] SQ 2023-04-09 | ⏬This shows what my Wayward Wayfinder GMV would've looked like if I had worked at the same size as (most of) my source footage.Why it may or may not be worth editing with 4k footage for fanvids came up in a conversation recently and someone brought up that time I made a video about how I manually frame scenes with oversized footage.I remarked I love editing with 4k in a 1080p timeline for that reason, and had recently made a vid that did it a lot!So I decided to upload a newer version of "Manually framing scenes" to show all that I have done and hope to give you some ideas of what stuff is possible :)If you plan on doing a lot of zooms, manual composition or framing, and/or match cuts in your vid, it is beneficial to use an oversized source for your composition so you have the freedom to move and zoom them without quality loss.In this case, I used the 4k version of Kingdom Hearts 3 & A Fragmentary Passage, and edited on a 1920x1080 sequence. This is what the AMV would've looked like had I edited it in 4k. You can see a lot to the scenes move all over the place. I matched them up as much as I could, but there are still 3 spots in the comparison where they're noticeably off.
