Not far from USC Williams-Brice Stadium sits this caboose that was once used for the Illinois Central Railroad. This caboose, along with over 20 others, was purchased by Columbia businessman Ed Robinson for the purpose of tailgating for USC games. These cabooses were renovated and fixed up to host tailgating events, were repainted, and appropriately renamed South Carolina Cockaboose Railroad. These cockaboose were named this because of the USC Gamecocks. All of the other cabooses are still in use and are in great shape right near the stadium. This one sits alone further away from the stadium and continues to get taken over by mother nature and hit by squatters/vandals. During an evening spent sitting along the Allegheny River near Etna, I had seen there was a clear signal for an eastbound train on Main 1 on the Conemaugh Line. While I waited, I continued to relax by the river bank. After quite some time, I went back to check the signal to discover an approach signal on Main 2 along with the clear signal on Main 1. I had never seen 2 signals, here, ready for trains to pass at the same time before. And it struck me as odd considering shortly up the line, the tracks go to a single track.The second signal to change saw the first train come by on Main 2. A manifest would be slow to go by and as it was slowing down to a stop, a coal train on Main 1 came flying by. The manifest stopped beyond the signal tower and waited for the coal train to pass. We caught Amtrak heading toward Altoona as well as a few white ninjas, foreign power, and a train going into emergency right in front of us. The rear helpers would stop right in front of us when that train abruptly came to a stop. An airline disconnection was the cause of the problem.
