Microsoft Photo Story 3 is a product which came packed in with PC CD-ROM releases of RCT3 Gold (possibly others, that's the one I had), that makes slideshows out of users' photos. Which includes snapshots from the game via this Photo Spot piece of scenery, and a picture camera piece of track (have not tried that one out, actually). I figured that Frontier would have taken its logo and trademark off of the Photo Spot but they left it in for whatever reason. I don't figure Microsoft out there really cares about what that wordmark shows up in, so.....
I just got the game on sale (it's $7.50 on the eShop right now) so I don't know that much about its development (can totally believe it being based on the same codebase as the 2004 original) but this is a fun reference to see in my playing around with it lol

It totaled around an hour, and I was a bit sleepy throughout the process, so I thought it would be more fun to speed it up, set it to some nice music and let you see my general process for such things, mistakes and all. Apologies if the mouse tracking is a bit too quick to watch comfortably.

I have been able to inject the full song, and I was able to get the original score file into Reaper to make edits and change the BPM. I haven't gotten into actual charting or tempo mapping, at least not yet. There are spots in the replaced song ("Predictable")'s chart that actually match up pretty well, and that's funny.
Recorded on my desktop, so it's less of a stutter-fest.Donkey Konga 2 custom audio testdotcomboom2020-08-20 | IT WORKS kinda
(note that the stuttering is from the recording and was not noticeable ingame)
process right now: - export standard mono l/r dsp with audacity fork[1] (has to be cut short enough so it isn't too large to inject over an existing track) - use dkdsp 0.4 (available in mariocube) to weave them into a stereo cStr dsp: i.e. dkdsp.exe "01 parrrtialL.dsp" -s "01 parrrtialR.dsp" 01newpartial.dsp (xmplay was used to compare it with dsp files the game came with) - replace like the first five dsp files in stream/score/ because i dunno which ones get mapped to which songs in game yet - ??? - profit
next steps, get the track in longer, see if i can change song titles[2], also plain midi files are used for scores so that'd need to be a thing

Gource: gource.io Git: git-scm.com AutoSite: github.com/dotcomboom/AutoSiteLooking back on MyGameBuilder (v1, 2008-2013)dotcomboom2020-05-01 | I don't know if many other people grew up with this site, but it was magical to me back in the day. The servers were shut down relatively recently (I'm guessing 2019, after people had a chance to move their stuff to v2), so all that I am looking at here is just in the MGB.swf file that's still up on the site. I remember making short "platformer" games on it back then that I'd show off to my elementary school computer class. These were still technically just top-down RPGs, all MGB games were, just with several blocks that would push you down if you went up to simulate gravity.
They have indeed since relaunched the site at v2.mygamebuilder.com, and while I did have a peek at the ported over actor-based system early in v2's ongoing public beta (which was incredibly well done; notable older games were brought over pretty much perfectly, like the classic Ice Penguinz here: v2.mygamebuilder.com/u/dgolds/play/X8P7sLMovtS9uLafE) that has since been deprecated and you can't easily use it anymore. The focus instead of v2 is, well, introducing kids to JS game engines like Phaser with tutorials and whatnot. While that's well and good, I miss the idea of being able to make your own game using basic yet capable tools. A lot of really neat things were made with MGB, and yet I never hear anything about it.DirectMusic Producer - Toots2dotcomboom2020-04-29 | Demo segment from Microsoft DirectMusic Producer.

Dialing.MID is a weird MIDI file in the set. In every other program I threw it in, it was interpreted as a single 16 second long track (where I presume all of the instruments played at once), but with the BeatnikX player it played properly, with the progress bar being for each 16 second stanza. I had thought this MIDI was just for a certain segment of the song, but turns out that wasn't the case.
Matt Man's WebTV server emulator video: youtube.com/watch?v=Wdb14M1jMX0 His site has a modded WebTV Viewer available for download that does have all of the ROM's MIDIs and RMF files extracted, as well as being able to connect to the emulator.
zefie's BeatnikX Player: github.com/zefie/BeatnikProject2019 As well as playing this MIDI properly (with the exact soundfont as well) it's one of the very few programs to play RMFs, at least on modern systems. I'd highly recommend giving WebTV's RMF files a listen as some of them sound real dang good.Introducing Windows NT - Windows NT 3.51 Serverdotcomboom2019-08-21 | A fresh recording of the Introducing Windows NT tour included in NT 3.51. My other GopherVR video, on macOS Mojave: youtube.com/watch?v=mljHFaNHzhcSongbird Gopher demodotcomboom2019-06-22 | This is a little demo of an intriguing media player application that happened to use an older version of Gecko with Gopher support. And yes, that means you can stream music over Gopher, although you can't skim through it on the fly. Songbird does let you download files right to your library which is pretty neat.
As it's based on Gecko (the core of Mozilla/Firefox) there isn't necessarily any special integration with Gopher. Which is a shame, because it'd be cool to queue up and batch download tracks using it. (I've tried dragging the links onto the queue on the right, it unfortunately doesn't work.) Also of note is how clicking on a media link pops up with an error message but it still works anyways, which is odd.
Songbird is overall a neat looking application and it's a shame that it's been discontinued with the services running it being down as well.Pro Tools 5 SoundCheck Demo Trackdotcomboom2019-02-26 | The demo track included with distributions of Pro Tools 5 Free.A variety of Gopher clients on Windows 2000dotcomboom2019-02-01 | A showcase of a bunch of Gopher clients, in mostly chronological order (with the exception of Blue Skies which belongs in the WSGopher family but didn't open so I had to record it later umu).
Timestamps: 0:00 BCGopher (1993) 4:20 HGopher (1993) 8:20 WSGopher 1.2 (1994) 10:43 WSGopher 2.0 (1994) 13:22 Not Blue Skies (umu) 13:25 WGopher (1994) 16:34 Digger Dwarf (2010) 18:20 Gopherus (2013) 20:00 Little Gopher Client (2016) 21:10 Gopher Browser for Windows (2016) 23:15 Blue Skies (1995)
Blue Skies is based on WSGopher 1.2; it uses the same help file (not pictured) and keeps most of its features, but lacks the directory tree feature that WSGopher 2.0 has. It intrigues me mainly because of its general purpose of connecting to servers with weather forecasts.
Directory trees are a novel concept for a Gopher client to have, and I hope to see it used more in the future; it offers a quick way to navigate through a Gopher server. WSGopher 2.0 and Little Gopher Client have realized this. WSGopher 2.0 for some reason removes directory selectors from the menu view, and the implementation is a little buggy, causing some menus to not function properly. Little Gopher Client is the better implementation, but I think backlinks should be hidden since they're already in the tree anyway. Netscape 6 implements it too, and while its implementation is actually very good, they make the mistake of using it as the only way to view the menu, without any information selectors. It's a shame, because it's excellent otherwise.
A number of these earlier clients (HGopher, WSGopher/Blue Skies) do support Gopher+. I've never seen it in action as of yet (if you know a server that uses it, leave a comment) and I'm not entirely sure how it works.
The older clients are 16-bit executables and will not run on 64-bit Windows. I did run this in a virtual machine: if you found the two--wait, no, three--times in the video where I accidentally broke the immersion, both congratulations and my sincerest apologies. If you did notice, yeah pEPsi is a great album.GopherVR in actiondotcomboom2018-12-25 | Cameron Kaiser's build of GopherVR running on macOS Mojave (10.14). To get this to work, I needed to use the MacPorts version of X11-server instead of XQuartz. Ultimately I just ran the GopherVR executable through xterm, since otherwise the application would try to launch under XQuartz. I don't really know why XQuartz didn't work, but the MacPorts version did so whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
