#writing #screenwriting #writingcommunityI’ve Submitted 10 Times To The Nicholl Fellowships, Here’s How I Won - R.J. Daniel HannaFilm Courage2024-06-25 | WATCH 'HARD MILES' TRAILER youtube.com/watch?v=VxwcSaXXAZE
Maybe it was growing up in Arkansas as a Canadian, or the summers in rural Ireland with his grandparents, but Daniel has always been drawn to out-of-place characters, strange environments, and the unique rhythms of how people talk. He just completed post on his horror film “Succubus,” starring Ron Perlman and Rosanna Arquette, to be released in 2024. Crossing over 500 screens in the U.S. and beginning its run in the U.K. is his feature “Hard Miles,” starring Golden Globe-winner Matthew Modine and Oscar-Nominee Sean Astin, which has won multiple awards and screened at prestigious festivals including Chicago International, Heartland Film Festival, and Cinequest. Prior to that, Daniel directed the true-story feature “Miss Virginia,” starring three-time Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba, Oscar-Nominee Aunjanue Ellis, and Vanessa Williams. The film was listed as a New York Times and USA Today Must-See Fall Movie, won the Audience Award at The Naples Film Festival, and received a limited theatrical release, cable premiere on BET, and streaming deal with Netflix.
As a writer, Daniel is a winner of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, as well as the Slamdance, ScriptPipeline, and Screencraft writing awards. He also explores storytelling as an editor, with ten features under his belt, including horror film “What Lies Below,” starring Mena Suvari, which hit #1 on Netflix, and “Supercell” starring Alec Baldwin, Anne Heche, and Skeet Ulrich, which hit #1 on Hulu. Daniel hopes to continue telling cinematic, character-driven stories long past the time any sane person would have retired. He lives on the east-side of L.A. with his excessively-vocal cat “Dottie.”

#filmmaking #writing #animationWhy DIRECTORS Cant Be Afraid Or Intimidated By ACTORS - James Cullen BressackFilm Courage2024-06-17 | SIGN UP FOR THE FILM COURAGE NEWSLETTER filmcourage.substack.com
In this Film Courage video interview, James Cullen Bressack shares thoughts on working with actors on a movie set, developing a trust factor with talent, and approaching artists from a human standpoint rather than fear.
James Cullen Bressack is an American producer, director, and screenwriter. At the age of 18 he received critical attention from audiences and critics alike when he made his debut feature, My Pure Joy.
One to push boundaries, James followed up with the bold and unapologetic Hate Crime which forced audiences along for a brutal home invasion, the first found footage feature ever to be made in the style of having no cuts. The entire film plays out painfully in real time. It was promptly banned in the UK for its fearless story telling, one of three films to be banned in the last 25 years and remains so to this day.
Ahead of his time, he then started the To Jennifer series, the first feature film to be shot entirely on the iPhone 5. He produced the next three instalments.
The prolific filmmaker refused to slow down completing seven more features including Pernicious, 13-13-13, and Blood Lake, starring Shannen Doherty and Christopher Lloyd, which made James the youngest director to ever direct for television.
After writing and directing the haunting Bethany, James shifted his focus to producing. He has now produced forty-eight features including releases for Lionsgate and Cinedigm and is a member of both the PGA and SAG/AFTRA. His impressive body of work has won him numerous Best Picture and Best Director awards on the film festival circuit.
James has achieved all this at the age of 29 and refuses to slow down as he continues to push the envelop and make films no one thought possible. His most recent features include Beyond The Law, starring Steven Seagal and DMX along with Survive The Game and Fortress which star Bruce Willis and Chad Michael Murray. He also just completed photography on the feature Hot Seat starring Mel Gibson, Kevin Dillon, Shannen Doherty and Sam Asghari.

#writing #author #writerThe Writing Process I Use To Discover What A Screenplay Is Really About - R.J. Daniel HannaFilm Courage2024-06-12 | WATCH 'HARD MILES' TRAILER youtube.com/watch?v=VxwcSaXXAZE

#writing #screenwriting #writerHow I Started A Production Company And Made It A Career - Antoine Allen [FULL INTERVIEW]Film Courage2024-05-31 | 0:00 - How An Artist Turns Pain Into Purpose 10:36 - Stop Waiting For Someone Else To Validate Your Career 15:32 - This Is Why The Most Talented Artists Aren't The Most Successful 25:20 - What Tyler Perry Taught Me About The Movie Business 39:00 - This Is How I Made $15,000 From A Short Film 48:34 - This Is How I Made $9000 From A Movie Premiere 58:44 - This Is How I Made $80,000 Off My First Movie 1:11:44 - Investors Don't Care About The Screenplay, Here's What They Really Care About 1:25:34 - I Have A Great Movie Idea But I Don't Want To Write The Screenplay 1:34:56 - Harsh Truths About Selling A Movie 1:45:56 - How To Start A Production Company With No Experience 1:54:43 - Every Artist Is Their Own Worst Enemy
Award-winning filmmaker Antoine Allen had dreams like any other kid growing up, and it was those same dreams that allowed him to break through every obstacle in his path. Despite growing up poor in Jamaica, Queens, Allen was already rich with potential. Refusing to let this define his future, he moved forward with a passion, drive, and tireless dedication that has now become synonymous with the Antoine Allen brand. Allen began his career in the music industry, successfully managing hip-hop artists for many years. During that time, he had several experiences that opened his eyes to the fact that he had more to offer. It was at this time that the phrase “dream big or don’t dream at all” really hit hard. Forgoing the traditional film school route, he began educating himself on all creative, technical, and business aspects of the process and never looked back. Allen transformed himself into a successful writer, director, filmmaker and producer. He sold his first screenplay, No Where Land an animated feature film in 2008. As an award-winning director, Allen has gone on to be involved in a variety of film and music video projects. In the summer of 2010, Allen made his directorial debut with Split Decision a narrative short film exploring love, rejection and motivation, which he also wrote and produced. He took promotions into his own hands, launching a highly successful social media campaign. The trailer alone received over twenty-one thousand views on YouTube and countless ‘Likes’ on Facebook, all culminating in the Split Decision world premiere. The opening screening in New York City sold out. This should have come as no surprise since Allen sold out a premiere to a 3-minute music video that he had previously directed. On a personal level, the film allowed him to draw from his own experiences of beating the odds when life got tough, and was an experience that brought Allen full circle. His most recent project, a full-length feature film Life Is Too Short (2015) premiered to another crop of sold out audiences and has been honored with multiple awards and film festivals selections.

#filmmaking #filmmaker #musicianBiggest Problems With Virtual Production - Keith SutliffFilm Courage2024-05-25 | In this Film Courage video interview, Keith Sutliff shares challenges with making a movie using virtual production technology, including how images look in CGI, making an image environment/background in advance in order to test for glitches, configuring settings, etc.

His award-winning work in film encompasses feature films, episodic narratives, short form content and commercial productions.
