Without safety measures, the village would remain largely uninhabitable. So gigantic rockfall drapes were installed on the rock face above the village in 2020/2021. To efficiently secure the large area, many high-tensile Geobrugg mesh rolls were connected at the ground to form giant drapes in an unprecedented procedure. Due to the weight of the drape segments, this required one of the largest transport helicopters - the Kamov KA-32 helicopter.

Malchej Ghat is a mountain pass nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghat range in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. The National Highway 222 is connecting the states of Maharashtra and Telangana passes Malchey Ghat. It is situated in the Pune district, 160 Km from Mumbai and 130 km from Pune.
The area is notorious for landslides during monsoons. Because of frequent rockfalls, the state highway is often closed for several days which severely affects the day-to-day life of the nearby cities. During a rockfall event in 2013, boulders weighing around 5 tons rolled down the slope and damaged vehicles and injured people a the temple area.
