Making new stamps and ink pads for old mechanical stamps Crafts With Ellen 2023-02-15 | I fixed up some old mechanical stamps by replacing the stamp itself and refurbishing the ink pad. So much fun!The stamps were made by hand carving from a pink carving block with a lino cutter and by laser cutting a rubber sheet specifically made for the laser.For the ink pads, I removed the old interior and used double sided tape to stick some felt in there. This one was particularly difficult though, and the image is from one of my favorite painters, so I decided to hang it on the wall.I've seen people frame puzzles or glue them onto a backer board, but I really wanted to see if I could glue just the pieces together. That way it's really just a puzzle that's hanging on the wall. So I made a design, bought a sheet of 18 mm birch plywood and made all the pieces fit onto that single sheet. This was my first time working with plywood, and I really enjoyed it. It's so even and stable, without any internal tension or other issues. It was also the first time I used sanding sealer, stain and water based lacquer. And the birth of a baby is definitely special. So when some close friends had their first baby, I surprised them with a handmade banner with his name on it. They loved it, so of course I made another one when they recently had their second baby.What you'll need:- Woven fabric for the flags in one or more colors. The amount depends on how long the name is that you will be putting on, but in general 1,5 meters of fabric should be plenty.- Woven fabric for the letters in a contrasting color. Turning a better handle for my seam ripper Crafts With Ellen 2018-08-09 | For some reason, the handles on seam rippers are tiny. I've come across a few that were bigger, but still not great. So one of the first things I did when I got a wood lathe was to turn a new handle for my teeny tiny seam ripper. It's a small project with a big impact on usability.
