(DVS) Elizabeth & Ciel x It all fell down Harlequinade13 2021-03-19 | My part for the MEP I hosted for DVS. The theme was angst. I used Elizabeth as a main character for this, being upset about her relationship with Ciel crumbling. I am more comfortable with this is a platonic thing, given their blood relation (historical context aside), but the implications of them building a dynasty/empire together with Lizzie as part of the Phantomhive family was really interesting and what made me think of using this in the first place. Lizzie is comforted by her brother and mother here, as she processes losing any relationship and trust she had built with Ciel. I tried some new things with editing this time. She requested this show and this song, and I thought they went perfectly together. I wanted to create something tragic and show a progression toward something big and it naturally ended the way it did. I decided to foreshadow the ending in the beginning clips. I tried to show how Cassandra is willing to do whatever it takes to be number one, and Rapunzel responds in turn. It is a slow and steady build-up, like in the show. In the beginning, it is Cass pushing away Rapunzel’s concern for their friendship and Cass’s injury, (“I’m fine, Rapunzel. Let’s just keep moving.”) And in the end, it is Cass pushing herself to the limit. Ultimately, they will sacrifice anything and everything and if they aren’t careful, they will end up alone. Rapunzel knows this. She has Eugene, her parents, her other friends. Cass needs to hold onto her connections if she will one day end up alone. Cass doesn’t want to push Rapunzel away, but she feels she must in order to win, to come out on top. The voiceovers are a bit iffy, but I tried my best with them. Try to ignore any background music. I also tried to use fonts she likes (mostly) for parts I thought were important or just might look nice. Merry Christmas! And happy New Year! FRUITS BASKET AMV || No one will cry at my funeral” Harlequinade13 2020-01-03 | I actually had this idea back in 2013 when I first heard this song. I rewatched the show again before the 2029 reboot and I had inspiration to make this, but of course I didn’t decide to until I saw the chance in the form of a gift. (Because I tend to make my best edits in the forms of gifts lol) So this was my last video of a decade, but also my first posted video of a new decade, so I’m happy about that despite it being a late gift. With this video, I wanted to focus on the tragedy and trauma in this show, while Tohru and the other characters also appreciate the beauty in their lives. This isn’t meant to romanticize or brush away trauma and loss, of course, but show both sides and show the characters experiencing both tragedy and joy. The section with Akito was what I built up the video to (in addition to the end, with Tohru accepting Kyo’s true form) because Tohru tells Akito “When you die, we’ll be sad.” This statement has an impact on Akito and is a running theme throughout the video. The “no one will cry at my funeral” both refers to the characters feeling alone and unloved or disconnected with others and thus believing no one would cry for them and not wanting anyone to. However, it also shows the surprise they feel when they realize people would miss them, would cry for them. And the moment Tohru cries for Akito is the climax of the video for me. That was also why I had to use the original and not the reboot, though I love both.I didn’t do too much in the way of coloring because I wanted to try to keep the quality since it’s an older show, and keep the iconic look of the show as much as possible. Even the little contrast may have been too much oops. The video is pretty raw which I’m happy with, since the charm behind this song is the emotion and the timing. I’m trying something new with the ‘AMV’ title. Don’t judge me ha ha I just notice people tend to find them more easily if they have AMV in the title? -shrug- I tend to not like it in my titles, but we’ll see.Big thanks to littlemissfiretruckx for betaing and putting up with my late night hours lol! My team got ‘seasons’ as a theme and of course chose this fitting and beautiful song! When I got my parts I knew I wanted to Atsushi and Kyouka with the theme of change and renewal for spring. Of course the entire collab had mostly them lol. It think it still turned out pretty and very emotional. I really enjoy these team contests and doing this reminded me of the tournaments I participated in, and the ABS collab contest a few years ago. (DVS MEP) MABEL x PACIFICA - “They won’t let go” Harlequinade13 2018-10-02 | I made this in May of last year and meant to fix a few things, but I wasn’t able to before losing my files. This was cut from the full MEP. Regardless, I think it looks pretty cute and I’m mostly excited about Mabel’s little tear! I suggested this MEP. I love this song and this pairing. I hope to edit Mabifica again sometime. So just like the lyrics say, they were girlfriends and then they broke up but obviously they still love each other and think about each other constantly. Mabel still has a special scrapbook she made of pictures of them while they were together. Pacifica has several sweaters and some of Mabel’s t-shirts that she wears to bed and can’t bring herself to give back. (DVS MEP) DAZAI OSAMU | “Spirits in my head” [Hiatus] Harlequinade13 2018-09-28 | Hello everyone! It has been a while since my last post. Numerous factors from illness to hard drive failure have kept me away all summer. I am feeling much better and working on getting my footage back with the help of some other kind editors. However, I will be going on another hiatus, though this one of different because it’s official, won’t last as long as the unintentional one I just took, and will include the rest of the MEP parts I hadn’t posted yet as I work on remaking the videos I was making previously. This will include a Soukoku video, my You Pick I Vids, as well as a few more anime tributes. For the rest of the year, I hope to focus mostly on longer videos so I won’t join as many MEPs. I appreciate everyone for sticking with me. I even gained subscribers will I was away and am almost at 1k. I have special videos planned for 700-900 subs I still hope to post.As for this video, the theme was characters with mental illness so I picked Dazai with a focus on suicidal ideation. I actually had a video planned out for September, as it’s Suicide Prevention Month, but this will have to do for this year. I made this part back in March, I think. I’ve looked forward to posting it. The masking was fun and sad and I want to do more effects like that, as I’ve been watching videos with different background colors. I made this for DVS’s Honeythief MEP. youtube.com/watch?v=Y95PmhRzewkThe theme was relationships with a focus on co-dependence which fits these two, though it’s more obvious for Misa. Light is dependent on her as well. The color scheme was supposed to be minimal with some grayscale. I was so happy I finally found a chance to use the paint swatch overlay. This song also reminded me of a darker one-sided Mikasa/Eren but I decided to edit Misa because it’s been forever and she’s still one of my favorite characters. It is very difficult to find Death Note fanart, though. I focused on her relationship with Light, of course, and wavering in that but feeling stronger in the end because of it. She’s dependent on him. She gives up a lot for Light, which is sad, but at the end, she has little bit of agency. Or you could also see it as wanting to be strong for Light, although I thought of her accepting the Shinigami eyes either before or after meeting Light officially. Either way, she’s definitely devoted to him. Especially for the first part.The first one has a bit of Atsushi/Kyouka but it focuses on everything and this sort of hopeful, new beginnings vibe. Dazai and Atsushi are so sweet at the end! And the second part is Atsushi/Lucy, with them relating to each other and her helping him and them fighting their demons (and winning). Because there is like no footage of them if you wanna make full videos. I had to get creative with clips and storyline. And there isn’t as much of a storyline so much as different scenes and them both being angsty when they’re apart. There are POV changes throughout but just pay attention to the 'I' and 'you' pronouns and it should be clear. They get together (after he gives her a fish? That’s how I wanna get a partner for sure) and end up breaking up toward the end thinking it’s for the best and that they’ll somehow be happier without ‘dragging the other down’ but I wanted it to have a happy ending so instead of her dying, I made it so she’s Ophelia because they both struggle with mental health and while they try to support each other, things get difficult. But in the end, they realize they’re both much happier together and Ayano goes up to him at school like nothing ever happened and he falls in love with her all over again. I’d imagine they’d talk it out but they’re definitely staying together in my mind. Phew, it’s done! It’s a little messy, I think, because I wanted to post it now and didn’t have time to get a beta, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. And I don’t think I repeated any clips— there are some that look similar, but I was careful not to use the same exact one twice. I really love songs that take a pretty topic and expose the difficulties or ugliness underneath. This song had a very Marina and the Diamonds feel, in that way, and it definitely reminded me of Christa. I feel like the royalty theme would really suit Christa even if we didn’t know about her history from the manga. In modern times, Christa would be the prom queen with everything and a horrible family and suicidal ideation. I used ‘prom queen’ to emphasize that, as well as a bit sarcastically, like Ymir might. The prom queen is also the Christa that everyone else loves; not the one Ymir loves. But I wanted to show Ymir giving her something to be inspired by. Nothing wrong with being the prom queen but if you’re doing that for other people, it’s a problem. Historia isn’t, and shouldn’t be, someone fake, someone for people to project anything they want onto or the martyr to be loved after death, but she has her own strength and power. Annie’s a more obvious villain and so I had to use her for this MEP. For Dazai, I focused on it from Akutagawa’s POV because the “you said the gun was mine” part reminded me of that clip and I really wanted to edit Dazai in a darker light, both in and away from the mafia. And who’s a bad guy and who isn’t is really all about point of view. So I focused on villains and their victims, basically. I lost the file while editing part two (it mysteriously disappeared) so part one still has some things I wanted to change but I love it too much not to post it. Part 2 came out without any regrets on my part, although SNK is really hard to edit with sound FX because it uses a lot of background music. I had a blast editing with sound FX in the first part and hope to make a full video with BSD soon that incorporates that style more. (It’s basically my normal editing but with like extra things to keep track of and manipulate -sigh-) Everyone should know by now that Annie is one of my favorite characters ever, and now Dazai is up there too. The emotionality of this song was very them so I’m glad I got to edit something a little different, I think. I love how proactive Higuchi is and how she saves him herself. For my parts, I wanted to give my Victor and Yuuri both an ‘I’ll always be there for you’ part and a sexual, mildly possessive part. The ‘who’s gonna love you like me?’ was very Yuuri to me and Victor doesn’t need much help in the being sexy department. I loved the ‘I don’t want to hurt you but you live for the pain’ line because I wanted to show their shifting power dynamics on ice and Victor’s more submissive side (or rather, wanting to be submissive to a dominant Yuuri where he hasn’t been able to before). Their power dynamics really don’t have to be a sexual thing and I think they mostly show on the ice with Victor and Yuuri letting to ‘power’ flow between them. It’s an interesting dynamic and I wanted to hint a little at it here.Overall, I love this collab! Angsty Victuuri is love! And I adore SailorPika’s editing style so it’s an honor to work with her, not to mention she’s super sweet and fun to talk to. And her effects/typography is gorgeous omg!Anyway, I really hope you all enjoy this! SOUSUKE x HARU - “I want to keep burning” [For Littlemissfiretruckx!] Harlequinade13 2017-01-14 | Merry Christmas and happy New Year to my friend, littlemissfiretruckx!Sub her!!youtube.com/user/littlemissfiretruckxI’m sorry this took so long. I had trouble figuring out the story at first but I had a lot of fun editing this despite its challenges. xD It’s the day of competitions! Sousuke is having troubles with his shoulder and dealing with a lot of physical and emotional pain. Meanwhile, Haru tries to compete and feels something weighing him down. He misses Sousuke despite their constant fighting and otherwise exhausting interactions. He cannot be free when he feels like this. He feels so bad he doesn’t even hide his desperation and misses Sousuke fiercely. Unbeknownst to Haru, Sousuke did go to watch his swim and leaves disappointed in both of them. Rewind to earlier— their first meeting since competing as children. It awakens the competitive drive in both of them but this is not a friendly rivalry. Sousuke is eager to crush Haru again and confronts him about it, along with stuff about Rin, implying that Haru is holding everyone back including himself and Sousuke is disgusted by it. Despite his annoyance with Sousuke for bothering him before their swim, Haru is more interested in Sousuke than he was before, maybe feels a spark of romantic or sexual interest alongside his dislike for his rival. This isn’t like Rin with all the self-loathing and hurt that came with their rivalry— this is something almost devoid of personal attatchment and Haru reaches for it despite knowing he shouldn’t. They swim in the relay. Sousuke has a flashback of seeing him swim the relay with Rin and feels jealous and lost and inspired all at once. He wants what Haru and Rin have. He wants the opportunity to swim again like he knows he can’t. He’s angry that Haru gets to have all this and doesn’t appreciate it. Haru wins. Over time, Sousuke and Haru keep thinking about each other, both good and bad thoughts. Their feelings of attraction and rivalry grow. They enter into a tremulous relationship which either of them refuses to name and which mostly involves arguing and physical stuff. Sousuke keeps swimming, keeps pushing himself beyond the limits his injury places on him. Sousuke shows up to walk Haru home from school and the atmosphere is tense. Haru was not expecting Sousuke. Sousuke yells at him, blaming him for his shoulder, for his anger, for being a distraction during competition season— for everything. And we see what happened the night before the competition. Haru and Sousuke had sex at the hotel the night before and Sousuke, feeling tired and agitated despite a release they both probably needed, breaks it off with Haru in the elevator. They should not have done stuff like that before a big competition. They should never have even gotten together in the first place. In the present, Sousuke not only leaves Haru once again, but tells him to quit swimming. Haru is devastated but doesn’t have it in him to argue with Sousuke at this point. Time passes and Sousuke realizes he has to give up swimming permanently. He can barely do it anymore and it’s painful and disappointing when he does. He misses Haru. He calls him and tells him to meet up the school. He wants to talk and something in his voice makes Haru want to listen to him. He goes without hesitation. They meet up and Sousuke announces that he’s quitting swimming. He says he wants to be with Haru again, starts to apologize when he says, “Race me in free.” If Sousuke wins, Haru will hear him out and maybe think about trying to date again, implying that things will be different between them this time. But if Haru wins, Sousuke has to continue swimming and being his rival. Maybe they’ll go out on a date after regionals. Sousuke, determined, agrees. And there’s rivalry still, but it’s lighter and charged with an excitement and awareness of the other that neither of them have felt before. They race. I didn’t realize how hard this song would be to edit until I started but the lyrics were so perfect for them. I have enjoyed our present exchange for the last few years. LELOUCH x C.C | “I’m begging you to stay” [HBD SILENCE!] Harlequinade13 2016-10-01 | A late b-day present for Silence! Basically, Lelouch and C.C argue and she decides to leave (or she leaves to protect Lelouch) despite his many attempts to convince her otherwise. They sleep together, or try to, but it only leaves them feeling more distant because they are better at the physical stuff and terrible at emotions. So C.C leaves and confronts Mao, who attacks her. Lelouch saves her and they make peace with each other. C.C promises to be more open with him if he’ll do the same and he agrees. Whether or not they can keep this up is up to viewer interpretation. I somehow always end up making videos for you with this fandom. One day I’ll edit something different! Maybe. xD I’ve actually been wanting to edit this song with these two for a while but it was always too intimidating for me but I decided it was pretty and I could tackle it for your birthday.
