Ferry Meadows CAMC, Nene Country Park, and the Nene Valley Railway Caravanning Macs 2022-04-19 | For this video we are at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, which is often used and featured by folks visiting Peterborough, or attending the National Campervan and Motorhome Show at the nearby showground.However, what is rarely shown is the superb variety of attractions and activities which are available right "on the doorstep" of the Ferry Meadows site - within easy walking distance - and are thus ideal for caravanners, campervanners and motorhomers. Theres Good News …… and Bad News ! Caravanning Macs 2022-02-18 | In this vlog we provide an update on several channel aspects - mostly positive and reasons for celebration, but also outlining some disturbing news that might affect our caravanning this year, and so impact on what we can produce for the channel.Positive things to celebrate and be excited about are the first "birthday" of CaravanningMacs, which we launched just a year ago this week. In that time we have seen steady growth in viewer and subscriber numbers, and produced almost 3 vlogs a month.As such we are very grateful to all our loyal subscribers for their support and encouragement, and also fellow YouTubers who have also sent encouraging messages and responded to any questions we asked of them.In the video we also outline some changes to the pattern of our caravan trips for this year, moving from long tours of around a month in length, to six or seven week-long stays at places we haven't been to before, or have not visited in a long time. These, along with weekends away and some shorter trips should give us a more relaxed kind of break with more time to explore each area. We also mention our forthcoming visit to the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC in February, and our plans for that.Finally, we need to pass on some not-so-good news that might limit or stop our caravanning this year, and so affect our video production.Due to an ongoing "situation" involving ourselves, our supplying dealer, and Bailey Caravans, whose responses on this matter over the last 6 weeks have been complacent and evasive to a worrying degree, our caravanning might become affected, and we may have to take particular steps to resolve matters. This could involve our vlogs becoming delayed or irregular, just at a time when we should be looking to celebrate the progress of our first year, and build on it. We are very unhappy at this, particularly as it is none of our fault.So, in this channel update, there's some good news to celebrate, and some developments to be concerned about. Many of us will have had that experience !To help avoid a repeat of that we devised a Loading Checklist to help us make sure that we had everything needed on each trip away.This vlog shows how we set about designing the checklist, and suggests how it might help you devise a checklist of your own, which suits your way of caravanning, or if you already have a list, possibly how it might be "tweaked" if necessary.It's absolutely not a "how-to" video - we all caravan a little differently to each other, and an item that might be essential for one person, could be less important to others. Modern caravan insulation and heating now make that possible.Over winter, rain and wind don't usually cause a problem, but how do you deal with frost and ice ? This is easily attached to the caravan wheel, giving a snug, draught free fit across the wheel arch, and it includes a quick and easy way of securing and tidying the fit of your awning skirt, giving a cosy awning.It is available for both single axle and double axle caravans, and will fit virtually any caravan which has spoked wheels. This vlog provides information on the Dingwall Camping and Caravanning Club site itself, directions on how it can be easily reached, and suggestions for visits and activities in the area, including Inverness and the Black Isle. We certainly enjoyed our visit to Dingwall and think you might too as part of a trip to Scotland. We can't wait to return - hence Dingwall's place in this series.
Tweaking the New Caravan, MacStickers and Going Large on Our Logo ! Caravanning Macs 2021-09-17 | This vlog gives a brief update on our new caravan after 4 months, and more than 45 nights' use, and also shows a number of slight tweaks and additions we have made to make using the caravan even more enjoyable and convenient.In the video we also detail steps we are taking to raise the profile of the CaravanningMacs YouTube channel, including a new, larger and more colourful logo board to be displayed in the front window whilst we are on site, and we will also be giving away stickers featuring the refreshed CaravanningMacs logo to folks who spot us on site, and speak to us or message us afterwards, or view our vlogs on the channel.. Additionally, we are also inviting other YouTubers, whether in caravans, motorhomes or campervans, to exchange their stickers for ours, and if we are lucky enough to get some, we'll use them to decorate a section of wall in the caravan, and brighten it up.We hope that by taking these new steps we can bring CaravanningMacs to the attention of more people, both on YouTube and on-site when we are on trips, and so meet new friends and grow our links with other YouTubers. The other hope from these changes is that with an increased profile the channel will attract and keep a larger number of viewers and subscribers.
Rails, Trails and The Enchanted Wood ! Caravanning Macs 2021-08-26 | For this video we have with us our two grandsons, the Junior CaravanningMacs, who have made quite a significant contribution to the vlog.We take them on holiday each summer, usually to a cottage, as up until April this year, our 2 berth caravan was too small for the four of us. This year's holiday was booked in June 2020, before the arrival of the new caravan, and we picked the accommodation you will see as it is quirky, and because both boys and George are big steam railway fans.For the video we are based at The Old Station, Allerston, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, handy for many attractions including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. In this vlog, George first provides a look at The Old Station and our converted railway carriage accommodation, and then the Junior CaravanningMacs take over and give a flavour of some of our activities out and about during our stay. Anniversary Tour Review Wows, … and Worries ! Caravanning Macs 2021-08-12 | In this vlog we take a look back at our recent 50th Anniversary Tour, highlighting the many plus points from the tour - its length, the variety of sites used, and the performance of our new caravan. As the Tour took place before COVID restrictions were fully lifted, we also highlight worries in respect of shortcomings in the application of COVID precautions on some sites, and how some site users also failed to comply with safety rules or requests, or used site facilities inconsiderately, leaving others to clean up. Additionally, we also invite viewers to think about not only these aspects of site use, but also two other persistent, and growing, problems observed at ALL sites we used, and about which many people we met complained. The first issue we highlight is that of taking short-cuts across people's pitches, showing a lack of respect for their privacy, and the second issue is significant speeding on site by drivers. The aim in mentioning these is not to point blame at any particular group, but to invite viewers to think about all of these issues, and perhaps even to initiate a widespread conversation among all caravanners, motorhomers and campervanners about how we use sites, respect others and show the appropriate example to newcomers and children. The issues we observed appear in danger of becoming a significant trend, and we feel it is important to highlight and think about these before they begin to affect the enjoyment of the hobby for all of us.
Sutton On Sea by The Junior CaravanningMacs Caravanning Macs 2021-08-10 | In this vlog we feature the first ever trip for our two grandsons in a touring caravan, to the seaside town of Sutton-on-Sea in Lincolnshire. To add to their excitement, they also took over many of the tasks involved in making the short vlog about their trip, including a mini-review of the site and what there is to enjoy in Sutton-on-Sea and surrounding area. They did some camera work, choosing camera positions and appropriate dialogue, and also made decisions about sound-recording and voice-overs for some sequences. The selection of background music was also theirs. So as well having a really good first time caravan break, they learned a lot and used their skills, contributing hugely to the vlog. Hope they don't start their own channel - they're better than us !
8. York Beechwood Grange CAMC. Railway Walk and City Attractions Caravanning Macs 2021-07-23 | This is Video No. 8 in the 50th Anniversary Tour Series, and features the final leg of the tour. In this vlog, having travelled from Troutbeck Head CAMC we are at York Beechwood Grange CAMC for our second stay here on the tour. Featured in this video is a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Grosmont, where we take the train for part of the route, and then walk back from Goathland to Grosmont, on the "Railway Walk" which follows the route of the original line. Additionally on this leg of the tour, we had a visit to York where we toured the Minster, shopped in the Shambles and walked a section of the city walls, but footage of these is not included in this vlog, as it's being saved for inclusion in a future video.NB - This final tour leg vlog will be followed up with a Tour Review video in 1-2 weeks' time, and this will feature not only our thoughts on the vlog, but some concerns about caravanning and caravan site noted during the tour.

Classics, Legends, Secrets and Lakes Caravanning Macs 2021-07-22 | This video is No. 7 in the 50th Anniversary Tour Series, and for this we have travelled from Strathclyde Country Park CAMC to Troutbeck Head CAMC, near Ullswater - a particular favourite of ours. We don't review the site in this vlog, as we've quite recently done a full review video, which can be seen in our "Too Good to Go Just Once" series. In this video visits include the Lakeland Motor Museum, where exotic and familiar classic cars are on show alongside interesting displays of social change influenced by transport. Next to the Museum there is also an impressive exhibition dedicated to the Campbells, Malcolm and Donald, the father and son World Land and Water Speed Records legends. Replica craft and other memorabilia are on show linked to the 21 world records they held between them. We also visit Coniston Water and the Derwent Pencil Museum, featuring the fascinating WW2 Secret Map and Compass Pencil made by the company for Military Intelligence in 1942. Finally there is a visit to the Western Lakes, at Crummock Water and Bassenthwaite Lake, bringing to a close an excellent stay at Troutbeck Head CAMC.
6. Strathclyde Country Park CAMC. Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Caravanning Macs 2021-07-21 | This is Video No. 6 in the 50th Anniversary Tour Series, and the last stay in Scotland on this tour. For this leg we have travelled from Grantown on Spey Caravan Park to Strathclyde Country Park CAMC Site, via an overnight stay at Glencoe. With just 2 days here, and with family still to see, we have just a short time to film, so we head to the beautiful Trossachs National Park, going through Aberfoyle, up over the steeply rising and falling "Duke's Pass", through the Menteith Hills, and pausing at Loch Venachar. A planned stop at Callander proved difficult, before we made our way back to Strathclyde Country Park, bringing to a close the Scottish part of our tour.
5. Grantown on Spey Caravan Pk. Loch Garten, Drumin Castle, Glenlivet Caravanning Macs 2021-07-20 | This is Video 5 in the 50th Anniversary Tour Series, and in this vlog we've travelled from Dingwall CCC to Grantown on Spey Caravan Park. This video includes visits to Loch Garten, Drumin Castle and the Glenlivet area, and also features the Spey Valley and the Culloden Battlefield. Planned visits to the Strathspey Railway and Cawdor Castle, whilst included, were not possible as no service or admission was available during our stay. We did not include a review of the site as this has recently been extensively covered by other YouTube contributors.
4. Dingwall CCC. Avoch, Cromarty and the Black Isle. Caravanning Macs 2021-07-18 | 50th Anniversary Tour Series- This is video 4 in the series. We've travelled 90 miles north from Bunree CAMC to Dingwall CCC, and this vlog includes a brief review of the site, as well as a short tour of the Black Isle with stops at Avoch and Cromarty, via Rosemarkie and Fortrose. A lovely site, within walking distance of the town, with very welcoming staff, excellent facilities and good pitches, set very conveniently for touring a beautiful and interesting area, It's a site that's new to us, is highly recommended and one that's very much a site to come back to.
3. Bunree CAMC. Neptunes Staircase, Commando Memorial and Moidart Caravanning Macs 2021-07-16 | 50th Anniversary Tour - This is the 3rd video of the series. Having moved on from Strathclyde Country Park to Bunree CAMC, this vlog presents a brief site description, and also visits to Neptune's Staircase locks on the Caledonian Canal, a visit to the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge and a day tour in the Moidart area, returning via the Corran Ferry.
