johnmajorjenkinsTo my utter surprise, I discovered in June of 2012 that my pioneering "2012 alignment theory," based largely on the iconography and archaeoastronomy in the Izapa ballcourt, had been adopted for depiction in the futuristic design of the Parque del Chocolate. Construction began in early 2011, and a 1-mile pathway through jungle from the Izapa Group F ballcourt over to the new Monument Park is already planned. I had given presentations at the University in Tapachula in 2007, at the Planetarium in 2008, and met with the mayor of Tuxtla Chico also in 2007. Most recently, I spoke at the first Izapa Round Table conference. It's an honor to know that my work has been embraced in the artistic and architectural work of the people of Chiapas. Check out, in this video, the entrance from the stairs by the river into the park. One can imagine this as a modern expression of Izapa as an initiatory site, and idea I proposed in the mid-1990s, giving people a revelatory experience of the grand alignment of sun and galaxy that the Long Count / 2012 calendar points to with its 13-Baktun period-ending date, December 21, 2012. It's been 22 years since I first passed through Izapa, on my way to do service work in Guatemala in the summer of 1990. It's incredible to contemplate all that's taken place in those 22 years. With the establishment of the "Izapa-2012" Monument Park (the Parque del Chocolate), tourists and pilgrims will receive of striking impression of Izapa's cosmological mysteries for decades to come.

This was recorded in my living room and is unscripted. I hope this gives a clearer picture of how I was drawn into doing this work and what my motivations and goals have been.John Major Jenkins at Izapa explaining the 2012 cosmologyjohnmajorjenkins2012-07-09 | In 2008 I was at Izapa again. At that time, although interest in 2012 was growing exponentially and I'd already been interviewed for many independent and mainstream documentaries on (their idea of) 2012, I was still unable to fund or find investors for a documentary about the importance of Izapa in understanding the origins of the 2012 calendar. And so I held my $75 digital camera at arms length and captured the following assessment while standing in the Izapa ballcourt --- "ground zero" of the ancient Maya's prophetic cosmology for 2012.A walking tour of the Izapa ballcourt with John Major Jenkinsjohnmajorjenkins2012-07-08 | Take a walk through Izapa's Milky Way ballcourt, "ground zero" of the 2012 cosmology & prophecy, with John Major Jenkins.
