It only needs a working sim card, and it also does not require internet or WIFI to send data to cloud. GSM is also an IOT devices to push data to cloud. TUTORIAL | How to use 12V Sensor with Arduino by using PC817 Optocoupler Isolation module MYBOTIC 2022-01-21 | Hi! In this video, we are going to teach you how to connect 12V or more sensor to Arduino's 5V input/output pins. We are going to use PC817 Optocoupler Module and connect it to the sensor and Arduino so that Arduino can read the data from sensor even though the voltage difference is high. In this example, we are using proximity sensor which use 12V voltage source and the output of the sensor is also 12V, which when we connect it directly to the Arduino's input/output pins, it could damaged our Arduino board. So, to read sensor's data from proximity sensor to Arduino, we are using PC817 Optocoupler module which is a phototransistor. You can read more about this module at the link below. Optocoupler is a great isolator IC to prevent high current application from damaging low current board which it connects to. This phototransistor helped Arduino reads the data from sensor when the phototransistor inside the IC is triggered, then the it drives the output of the IC high on 5V signal. This 5V high data is what Arduino reads. Not the 12V high data from sensor.
