Originally a 3-piece, co-founders Brett Pearl (vocals/guitar) and Matt Cramp (drums) have been flying the Arrowhead flag for over 10 years. The departure of original bass player Dave Lopez in 2015, saw the band recruit their current bass player, Arron Fletcher, previously from The Alohas. In January of 2019 after the completion of the band’s third studio album, Coven of the Snake (due to be released this year) the guys added a second guitarist to add another dimension to the sound. Raff Iacurto has been welcomed into the Arrowhead brotherhood to complete the current line-up. His previous bands’ include legendary stoner rockers Thumlock and more recent outfit The Dirty Earth. The band have developed a cosmic connection and are blending together effortlessly in their pursuit to redefine their sound in today’s musical landscape.
Arrowhead have honed their song writing craft over the last decade and continue to conjure up new and powerful music. Brett Pearl’s creative vision has synthesised their sound with original visual art to create a true expression of their ethos. The band have released a self-titled EP (2009) and two full-length albums, Atomsmasher (2013) and Desert Cult Ritual (2016). Both albums received highly acclaimed local and international exposure, which led to signing with California based record label Ripple Music. Ripple Music have recently released Desert Cult Ritual on vinyl and are preparing to release the band’s third studio album, Coven of the Snake, in 2019.
On the live front, Arrowhead have shared the stage with Monster Magnet, Unida (featuring John Garcia), Earthless, Samsara Blues Experiment, Greenleaf, Acid King, Sasquatch, The Atomic Bitchwax, Dave Tice’s Buffalo Revisited, Kadaver, Cough, Devil Rides Out, Blues Pills, SOTIS and Daredevil, just to name a few. If you love your classic albums and artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Sleep, Clutch, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, and Fu Manchu, you will want to add Arrowhead to your playlist.
Arrowhead stand out amongst the crowd with an ability to craft songs full of infectious grooves, catchy riffs, hard hitting drums and thunderous bass lines, all layered with Brett Pearl’s brutally raw and passionate vocal delivery. Arrowhead are the real deal, modern day rockers with a true passion for great song writing, foot tapping grooves and thick walls of fuzz that will pierce into your core and release your inner animal" - facebook.com/pg/ArrowheadHeavyRock/about

"Consider Natural Facts by Garcia Peoples to be your heady, friendly reminder that it’s alright to let the sunshine in. The second album in less than a year from those lovable New Jersey moptops with the sweet twin guitars, Natural Facts provides a portal to the carefree place that both indie rock and jam bands forgot, and a handy alternative to whatever you may need an alternative from. Bolstering the summer glow of 2018’s Cosmic Cash with flashes of fuzz, teeth, and power, Natural Facts is a natural progression for Garcia Peoples.
The more driving counterpart to its rural predecessor, Danny Arakaki and Tom Malach’s guitars remain at centerstage on machine gun shreds like the album-opening “Feel So Great” and the rolling grooves like “High Noon Violence” (which would fit right in with one of David Crosby’s early ‘70s studio supergroups). Playing cleanly articulated lines that perhaps recall any number of other guitar tandems--Allman/Betts, Verlaine/Lloyd, Jansch/Renbourn--Garcia Peoples’ guitars are most influenced by the sound of two guys hanging out, figuring out how to play guitar together.
With Derek Spaldo (bass) and Cesar Arakaki (drums), the quartet is joined on roughly half the tracks by keyboardist Pat Gubler (PG6, Wet Tuna, Tower Recordings), who--since contributing to Natural Facts--has become a frequent auxiliary Garcia. On the quieter passages of “Patient World,” Gubler’s zones set Tom and Danny’s entwinements into an atmosphere that suggests what the briefly-lived never-recorded Barrett/Gilmour Pink Floyd lineup might have done, given another few years.
Discovering the secret and perhaps even endangered language of riffs, Danny and Tom formed Garcia Peoples in Rutherford, New Jersey in 2011 or 2012, depending when you ask). And over the past year and change, Garcia Peoples have hit launching speed, writing albums’ worth of material too fast to release. While Natural Facts is the perfect introduction to the band’s light-footed cosmic Americana, it’s only one piece of an emerging picture that perhaps Garcia Peoples don’t even quite see yet. The tapers have started showing up for Garcia Peoples, too, keeping track of the evolving song suites. Despite only having one official full-length under their belt, the band barely repeated a song over their four shows during their weekly residency at Brooklyn’s Wonders of Nature. Depending on when you’re reading this, the next Garcia Peoples show will almost certainly contain pieces of album #3 and quite probably #4, too.
It’s been a small, happy wonder to watch Garcia Peoples transmit themselves to the outside world. From up close, they’re almost too omnipresent to keep track of, playing frequently, and out watching shows around Brooklyn on nearly any other given night. Honing their chops first at their respective parents’ places, playing until they had to unplug for the night, Arakaki and Malach would inevitably retire to the 7-11 parking lot. There, they pieced together the emerging jams, fragments, verses, and other stray ideas they had yet to write, until--at least in the Garciaverse--they coalesced into distinct albums. Then they just had to record them. As of this writing, they’re only one album behind. Like a road map with constantly changing coordinates, the Garcias’ master plan is only barely that, but they plunge into the next territory with an infectious enthusiasm.
Tracked in Philadelphia with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, War on Drugs, Mary Lattimore), Natural Facts isn’t a throwback, as much as Garcia Peoples sometimes accidentally sound like a band one might stumble into at New York’s late Wetlands Preserve in the mid-‘90s. Rather, it’s a newly emerging conversation, songs and structures and solos and duos drawing from the latest and most right-on musicians to cross Garcia Peeps’ collective transom.
The classic rock guitarists of yore might be obvious subsequent touchstones, but bend your ear and newer colors emerge, generated from hours and years of talk and music. Listen close. Nothing inorganic here, just pure Natural Facts." by Jesse Jarnow

Just from the first track, a strong sense of nothingness blends into a long unsettling travel through a microcosm full of colours while black shapes lead the traveller into a spiral of nihilistic lyrics, title tracks and monolithic riffs all at the same time . A pinch of the 90’s vocals’ legacy Gives to this full lenght The gloominess that crowns a long period of rehearsals playing and jamming over all sorts of musical borders." ridingeasyrecs.com/product/oreyeon-ode-to-oblivion

The track African Day was re-recorded for the European album, and once again featured on side two, but now as separate songs, with This Elephant Must Die thrown in for topicality. This was not part of the original side-long track.
Of the eleven songs which comprised the original South African release of Africa She Too Can Cry, four had to make way, these being The Return, Predictions, My Spear and White Bird Of Peace. That was a sad loss indeed. The remaining tracks were presented in a totally different order, mostly on side one, with one of them being integrated in the epic b-side, as outlined above.
This reviewer is of the opinion that the album was substantially weakened by this apparently arbitrary reshuffling. However it is nevertheless recommended as second-best if an original South African record cannot be found. The inner sleeve depicted hand-drawn images of the elephant hunt with hand-written notes outlining the story. The South African album instead shows a grainy black-and -white photo hinting at the exciting stage presence of Hawk. Indeed this reviewer was mesmerised by the Rhodesian introduction of Africa She Too Can Cry in live concert in the Rhodes Cinema, in Salisbury on 22 July 1972 (seat O-18!). The headline act the Troggs had to take a back seat to the excitement of Hawk." http://www.rock.co.za/files/africa_cry_europe.html Review by Bas Möllenkramer - Soest, the Netherlands

Lionfish are gorgeously proportioned, elaborately decorated beasts, plumed in the manner of Quetzalcoatl with eighteen hypodermic spines, each holding a payload of powerful neurotoxic venom. Making contact at the exact point where man and God fail to touch in Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam", the lionfish injected Gardner in the tip of his right index finger. At that moment, Gardner says, “the spirit of all creation was delivered instantly to the core of my heart.”
Gardner brought back samples of the venom and shared it with the other half of Elkhorn, the twelve-string acoustic guitar-fingerpicking Jesse Sheppard. Raised by a father with a storied career as an expert psycho-pharmacologist, Sheppard had inherited extensive expertise on the preparation and testing of psychoactive drugs. He quickly refined the venom into a powdered form just as potent as the original.
As a band, Elkhorn spent several weeks experimenting with different dosages of the drug, using it to fuel long electric/acoustic guitar improvisations exploring the fabric of the universe from within the intertwining spaces of mind and sound. As they experimented, it soon became clear that Gardner’s right index finger would continue to bear a scar from his encounter with the lionfish, to which he credits a permanent improvement in his guitar tone.
At 11:09PM on the evening of December 2nd, 2017, a day now known as “Lionfish Day,” Gardner and Sheppard each snorted two enormous lines of lionfish powder from the surface of a mirror adorned with the silkscreened image of Bill Kreutzmann’s face. They then proceeded to capture the recording you have in your hands at the band’s Sharktooth studio in New York City.
Each of these two extended improvisations, “Lion” and “Fish,” were timed to correspond with the peak effect of the lionfish venom as it opened and focused their minds, connecting them with the ambiguous beauty, danger and mystery of nature."

“Paradisiacal Mind”, the group’s tenth (or possibly twelfth?) full-length since 2008, conjures a floating stellular kraut Americano with quite a lot to pull you in to the mix and then drift you right back out again. Following two simultaneous 2017 releases - on Feeding Tube and Beyond Beyond Is Beyond - that explored out-of-body experience, this latest work turns decidedly inward. Psychic rock that guides your vision to heaven, and heaven is in your mind. When cover artist Kyla Quigley asked the band to draw from the tarot to inform her new work, the card was The Star, a renewal of hope and strength to carry on.
And so it all came together - acute, right and obtuse, all at once. A portion of the record was recorded in Oakland by Zachary Watkins (Black Spirituals), who helped set the atmosphere to capture the festival consciousness vibes. The remainder was realized on Bernal Hill, celebrating the 50+ year tradition of San Francisco psychedelic intensity. Additional players include Laura Naukkarinen (Lau Nau), Taralie Peterson (Spires That In The Sunset Rise) and Michael Whittaker (Jackie-O Motherfucker).
Recommended to the open minds that celebrate such sounds as the punk-hippie crossover scene of mid ‘80s SST records, as well as listeners of Scandinavian/Teutonic communal motorik vibes. And those into spiritual jazz, meditative and primordial minimalism, and scratched Environments LPs from the dollar bin.
For the heads." -- Glen Burnout, September 2018

"LOKOMOTIVE KREUZBERG is a Berlin polit-rock band founded in early 1972. The group performed in various formations touring extensively through Germany until 1977 at the dissolution of the group when finances became an issue.
The group consisted of founding member Andreas Brauer (vocals, keyboards, violin, flute, guitar, percussion), lyricist Kalle Scherfling (vocals), Volker Hiemann (vocals, guitar) and Uwe Holz (drums, vocals, harmonica, percussion). Later they were joined by Uve Müllrich (Guitars, Bass) and he also played bass in EMBRYO, and was founder of the DISSIDENTS. He was replaced from 1973 by Bernhard Potschka, Manfred Praeker and Herwig Mitteregger from 1976. Members later played in the NINA HAGEN BAND and later founded German rockers SPLIFF.
The band released a number of albums; "Kollege Klatt" (1972), "James Blond - Den Lohnräubern Auf Der Spur" (1973), "Fette Jahre" (1975), "Mountain Town" (1977).
LOKOMOTIVE KREUZBERG plays funky krautrock, with some folk rock, sounding similar to GONG and MOTHER GONG. The lyrics are left wing preaching a political message to the proletarian masses. For this reason they were banned from touring the communist countries." - AtomicCrimsonRush (Scott Tuffnell)

The STB Records juggernaut continues with the aforementioned release by Richmond, Virginia grime sludge doomsters new record. It will come as four unique and stunning editions. The “diehard” is limited to 50 copies, comes with custom art from W. Ralph Walters, and bears a unique foil stamp, hand-numbered, clear vinyl with what STB Records describe as their “dopesmoke” green splatter. The “OBI” version does exactly what it say on the tin, it comes with an OBI strip in Japanese and English. Olive green / milky white clear colour vinyl, limited to 90 copies. 3rd version is an exclusive Euro version for sale via Kozmik Artifactz Distro in Germany,Swamp Green with White and black heavy splatter limited to 103 pieces.
STB Records have certainly become the flag bearer when it comes to producing superior quality wax, like a Courvoisier to the connoisseur of cognac or a 15 year old single malt, to the whiskey aficionado. This label produces a highbrow boutique quality blend, and boy do we like to dabble in fine beverages of the wax variety. Simply put, once sampled you become ensnared by its flavourful quality. Therein the quality of this feature presentation is exemplary, therefore it is no surprise that the fourth and final version is a limited pressing of 108 copies, I am aghast to call the last version “standard,” but think the lesser quality single malt is still pretty high quality, you follow. STB dubs it ‘not so standard ed’. Milky white clear with olive green splatter.
The latter, is what I present with this here review for your reading pleasure and featured in the pictures accompanying this review. ‘cause I guess I should really talk about the music, ya dig!
So, what’s the dealio, homies? Well, simply put, Enter Venus is the best dose of grimy filth you’re gonna hear this year (Probably! but Carlsberg this ain’t) and the best musical output from STB Records thus far. Having released their cheerily monikered Motherfucker Rising debut a few years back, these motherfucking motherfuckers (I mean that affectionately) are back, with what invariably is a decidedly blackened doomier version of said lords of drug (see what I did there?). The fact of the matter is, Enter Venus = oppressively bleak. Did I like it? Damn straight, I loved every single moment of Druglord’s spewing rancid ooze.
In short, I am running out of bleak superlatives for this record, yes that seem like a weird juxtaposition, kinda like taking pleasure from eating glass or ingesting bleach. But that is why this record, just plain aces, in that the stuff is tense, dark and visceral but just unashamedly compelling and absorbing. Like your favourite horror movie, Druglord make you sick to your stomach, yet the thrill is in the fear and just like a horror flick, Enter Venus it is ultimately satisfying. Resistance is futile my friends. Undoubtedly, Druglord may not reach the notoriety of Pablo Escobar, but one thing is for sure, this record is more addictive than anything chopped on a mirror."

"In May and into early June, ØSC was on tour with Black Moon Circle for 9 concerts in 9 days in 5 different countries. We had an incredible time and played some amazing inspired shows. The last show on the tour was in Berlin, where we had never played before. We had competition with Roger Waters but still pulled in around 100 people for an amazing end of the tour night. We made a multitrack recording and our guitar/violin player Jonathan mixed this. The entire band was totally on fire with both Vemund (Black Moon Circle) and Jonathan (Camper van Beethoven, Sista Maj) playing amazing guitar solos and Mogens (Univerzals) finally letting it all out with a monster synth solo on the Freaks of Berlin track. Vemund plays a mind blowing guitar solo in the final track to blow everyone’s mind. The groove machine of Tim (Agusa) and Jiri (Sista Maj, Univerzals) are killing in on the drums and bass. Hope you enjoy this little document of what one of our shows was like on the tour. It is the bands 6th official live album and 29th release since 2006." http://oresundspacecollective.com/392-2

Interestingly enough, most gigs took place in front of six to twelve year old kids; one could be forgiven for expecting them being much to young to care for thirty minutes long pieces of rather abstract music, but in fact most of the time these kids were our most appreciating audience. Generally, our performances grew more dense, and, perhaps, more avant-garde, as the age of our spectators rose. Only two shows were played at a regular concert hall, and they soon turned into esoteric midnight rituals. Billed as "The Drone-Ah-Bone Far-Out Show" and "God Is Alive And Well In A Sugarcube" (a third one, "No Bone In The Drone", was unfortunately cancelled), these two happenings both came in at well over two hours of non-stop music.
The piece on this disc Green Morning Baby is not a straight recording of what an actual gig could sound like (to mark the differences we opted for a change of name to The Brotherhood of Eternal Love on this release), instead we took great advantage of the possibilities offered in a studio. Thus there are plenty of overdubs and layers of instruments, but the actual feel of our live performances, especially those of a slightly more eclectic vein, is still very much present. Hopefully it'll be to your liking.
Several kids described their experience with our music as walking under water, meeting dinosaurs, or dancing in the jungle, and that's something we've certainly taken great pleasure in doing while recording Green Morning Baby. " - Jens @ http://www.hawklord.com/music/TSMdisco.htm

There are echoes of previous incarnations such as on "As Long As Sun Shines," with its mystic prayer at the center reminding listeners of the more adventurous moments of the Incredible String Band, while the instrumental "Star Tree & the Death of Flowers" brings listeners the glorious, elongated drone power of acts such as Kawabata Makoto's (of Acid Mothers' Temple) solo projects and the Obscured by Clouds-era Pink Floyd and early Popol Vuh. But it's also different -- this is far more spiritual music that it is drug music; its meditative and expansive qualities come from focused rather than improvised meditations on space and texture. As one moves through the lyrics, it's easy to hear that the brothers Jens and Arne Johanson with Mathias Barder are evoking something other than rock & roll in their musical tomes.
By the time the listener reaches "Remain" on disc two, with its textured sitar and guitar intertwining along with lilting keyboard phrases and organic, rudimentary percussion, the transformation is complete. HRFB have succeeded in taking listeners through the vortex to the place where all extraneous divisions of sound fall away, leaving only the essence of tone and vibration. This is an ambition of so many acts, from Spiritualized to Mercury Rev and the Flaming Lips -- all with far more elaborate production techniques that achieve far less musically, imagistically, and most importantly, emotionally." Like a pulsating beacon of musical promiscuity the opening motorik bars of track one, ‘The Way Out’ ripple outwardly, like some magical pre-ordained mantra, as the piece meanders through throbbing bass lines coupled with hypnotic rhythmic percussive patterns, surging synth swells and a magnificent vocal attack. This is a truly wonderful opening track as it sucks you into the collective mindset of ‘Holy Monitor’ and introduces you to their blissful acid-drenched musical landscape. Up next, we’re treated to a swirling repetitive guitar line intertwined with snaking bass frequencies and another impressive vocal performance. ‘Golden Light’ is full of eastern esoteric influences as its menacing organ swells and stunning reverberation loops and arc’s throughout, painting sonic pictures and instilling shimmering atmosphere.
‘Cacti’ charges into ear shot on a bedrock of pounding drums, swirling guitars and soaring synth swells that are constantly building in tempestuous fashion and continuously circumnavigating that fragile vocal track. It builds from the off adding layer after layer of stunning instrumentation as it deftly skips along its chosen sonic path. Up next, ‘Bend In The Trees’ gracefully glides in on a droning synth progression and a highly addictive guitar line. This track bathes in swathes of stunning reverb as its hushed vocalisations take centre stage continuously urging the instrumentation to keep up with the pace. A brilliantly executed track and possibly my favourite on this entire release. Track five, ‘White Sands’ slows proceedings down a tad initially as a golden cascading organ progression enters audible range. A steady beat is added to the maelstrom before the hypnotically charged vocal arrives and we’re treated to a masterclass of neo-psychedelic discovery.
The EP’s closing track is a thing of beauty. ‘Winterlong’ growls as its supercharged guitar lines expertly protect the immense vocal. Wurlitzing organ progressions swirl as throbbing bass lines add weight to the metronomic swing of the entire track leaving the listener wanting more.
A fitting finale to a stunning release!"

The Cosmic Factory is the brainchild of Rhode Island based guitarist Lee McAdams, who in 2008 began a two-year hunt for like-minded musicians to round out his vision for a funky, “trippy” hard-rocking trio. Though he would perform with several musicians before settling in on just the right combination, McAdams eventually enlisted the rhythm section of former schoolmates Mike Baker on bass and vocals, and Dewey Raposo on drums.
Although they have their own side-projects in which members often intermingle, The Cosmic Factory remains the band of priority for these three local rockers. After spending much time honing their collective skills by performing high-energy shows at venerable venues such as The Met, Providence’s The Spot, and Lupo’s, they have emerged with a nine song debut disc, Welcome To The Cosmic Factory.
Right from the opening moments of the disc’s first track, “Show You,” it’s clear that these guys have some chops. Rather than barreling in with an over-the-top knockout punch, the band eases the listener into the album, with a slithering groove laid down by some syncopated rhythms courtesy of Raposo, and Baker’s velvety approach to vocals in lines like: “I’d love to be the man to take you back to Heaven…”And holding all components together is the schooled guitar playing of McAdams, who with each unfolding section seems to channel another legendary guitarist, shifting from Junior Marvin to Jeff Beck to Jimmy Page, without as much as a hiccup.
Though the band culls much of its sound from classic artists, these guys are most certainly a modern outfit. The track “Stick Fishin’” is almost too catchy to be branded alternative, but nonetheless holds the earmarks of today’s 2013 rock sound. With its heavy driving rhythm and equally heavy grunge guitar tone, the song pulses along in shades of Alice In Chains but far more potent. I personally enjoyed the homage to The Beatles following the guitar solo, with the lines “Can you take me back where I came from. Brother can you take me back....” Nice White Album reference, boys!
The entire disc encapsulates some of the strongest instrumentation I’ve heard from a local band in some time. In fact, the only fault I can find with Welcome to The Cosmic Factory lies in the track. “Good Vibrations.” There’s nothing wrong with the song itself mind you. To the contrary, it has an infectious ska/reggae beat with some great use of wah-guitar by Lee McAdams. That said, using the title of arguably the most celebrated and renowned studio recording of the 20th century is to say the least, ill-advised. I didn’t like it when Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch did it in 1991, and I don’t like it any more now!
But taken in total, that’s small criticism compared to the overall quality and talent The Cosmic Factory possesses. And if their quickly expanding fanbase serves as any indication, this trio is not merely running the maze in vain, but rather has a legitimate shot of making a real mark on the entire scene before long. I can’t wait to see what product comes out of the Factory next..." http://motifri.com/cd-review-welcome-to-the-cosmic-factory

The marvelous city of Vienna has seen legions of talented musicians. Unfortunately, it has never been regarded as a rock'n'roll city. Eventually, a change is gonna come as THE WEIGHT indeed seem to have arisen from a distant place and a different time. Consequently, their first full length and self-entitled debut album shows little respect but a whole lotta love for all the legendary predecessors. But whereas other bands struggle to maintain originality and imagination THE WEIGHT provide us a surprisingly solid and convincing collection of well carved and beautiful songs. Whoever has the pleasure of immersing into the sound of THE WEIGHT either gets hooked on a driving and seductive groove machine or placed in a rather gentle and meditative mood. While the band introduces their music as HEAVY RHYTHM AND ROLL we definitely call it rock’n’roll in its finest and purest form.
Having played over 150 shows during the last two years the band put much of the experience they had gained by a life on the road into their album. THE WEIGHT's music embodies lust, life and happiness as well as a good amount of struggle, heartache and pain. One can truly feel how four young men have paid their dues and fortunately they seem to just have embarked on a daring endeavour, leaving us a stunning first glance of a promising future.
The album itself was produced during an adventurous two-phase undertaking. While all basic tracks were recorded in a bright and light-flooded studio in the middle of the placid landscape of Lake Constance the band ultimately underwent a radical “back to the roots” treatment by returning to their dark and dusky rehearsing room in the city of Vienna. Thus, the musicians felt able to finally capture the sound and the creativity they had initially been craving for. THE WEIGHT completed all the missing parts on their own adding plenty of guitars, pianos, organs, vocals, percussion and some vicious sound effects in a remarkable and convincing manner.
German multi-platinum producer Oliver Zuelch (Die Ärzte, Sportfreunde Stiller, etc.) became aware of the band and was instantly enthused by the idea of mixing the whole album giving the songs their vivid, warm and punchy sound.

Whether it’s the proto-thrash of “Looking Out” or the expansive grandiosity of the 7:44 “Deadline,” the bassline of which seems to directly wink at Black Sabbath‘s “Heaven and Hell” in the verses en route to yet another hook in an apparently Hypnos Set Fire to the Skyongoing series thereof. The rush of “Caught in the Night” would seem to be in conversation with opener “Get Out,” and between those two and the uptempo pacing of the aforementioned “Ain’t No Fool,” the sense of urgency is palpable from front to back. One could argue even the title Set Fire to the Sky speaks to a kind of intensity with which the record brims even unto the more comfortably-swinging title-track with its effective backing vocals and Scorpions-style groove. The outliers, then, are “Time is Running Out,” which despite its title working on the theme departs the NWOBHM shove in favor of a mellow and atmospheric rock with shades of Morricone in the lead guitar and layers of acoustic behind, and closer “Slutet,” which sure enough translates to “end” and tops seven minutes with a build into the grand finale that starts out no less mellow than “Time is Running Out” earlier.
Not that one shouldn’t consider those songs as part of the overarching impression Set Fire to the Sky makes — they’re essential in adding depth to the atmosphere and to expanding the general character of the band — but the primary personality Hypnos have on display is still a classic metal party. If you could put stone-washed denim on a turntable and have it make a sound, it would start playing “Get Out.” All told, the nine-track/44-minute is stunningly coherent in its aesthetic choices, but that doesn’t come at the sacrifice of songwriting either. Hypnos have always been able to work with classic structures and classic styles alike, and whether it’s “Caught in the Night” — there are few things that could be more natural than this band writing songs about “the night” — “Tell Me Goodbye” or the reaches of “Slutet,” Set Fire to the Sky is nothing if it isn’t the furthest point yet on their progressive forward line. You can call it rock, or you can call it metal. Neither is wrong and I honestly doubt the band cares much either way, but what matters more is that Set Fire to the Sky finds Hypnos further refining their place in the sphere of heavy, standing apart from both the most modern of practitioners and those who’ve sworn fealty solely to the tenets of ’70s boogie." http://theobelisk.net/obelisk/2018/08/30/hypnos-set-fire-to-the-sky-caught-in-the-night-premiere

"Since 2003, La Otracina has been hell-bent on creating highly visionary music that melds sonic ideas from the outer reaches of heavy and weird. The Brooklyn group has released three full-length albums and twelve mini-albums, along with a slew of splits and compilation trackss on labels including Holy Mountain and band founder Adam Kriney's own Colour Sounds Recordings. They have completed eight US tours and one Italian tour, in addition to countless shows in their hometown. Their tireless work ethic and far-reaching musical abilities have earned them a devoted cult following in the underground psychedelic / heavy music world, and their live shows leave fans screaming and fist-pumping in ecstatic awe.
La Otracina's new double-album is the first to feature drummer Kriney as lead vocalist, which catapults the trio into their most cohesive and focused release to date. Reality Has Got to Die showcases the band's mind-blowing ability to evoke the timeless space-rock magic of Hawkwind, the prog-improv wizardry of King Crimson, the fuck-yeah of early Metallica, and the synthesizer mind-warp of Tangerine Dream, all fused in a Krautrock state of mind. This musical journey through deep and heavy sound worlds envokes images of the emerald beyond and the darkest future alien universe, while also staying rooted in the tradition of rock 'n' roll's ever-winding history. But don't confuse this for faux-New-Age blabber--this is street-wise and from the gut, straight from the minds of three men living their art, sacrificing everything and manifesting a boundless sphere of music, ideas, and imagery.
Reality Has Got to Die is a visionary work of sound and concept, steeped in experimentation and creativity, blazing forth with the power of a million minds exploding!" - Holy Mountain Records (http://holymountain.com/la-otracina)

"Tigris & Euphrates, the long awaited second album by the italian band Sherpa, is an album born as a concept around the evolution on human being. All songs are focused on the evolution of human language through the eras and how language has deeply changed the relationship between people, for better or for worst. It’s a dark album, slow and crude, but at the same time this album let light and hope come in; it’s a winter path, with low lights and soft volumes." sherpaita.bandcamp.com/album/tigris-euphrates

What is Melting Hand? Supergroup? Side project? Hominid Sounds’ house band? Bizarre Voodoo curse? The core trio of Mike ‘all the bands’ Vest, Gordon ‘all the other bands’ Watson and Tom ‘no slouch either’ Fug are joined this time out by Wayne ‘many bands, much production’ Adams on synth and Marion ‘The Wharves/Underground Railroad’ Andrau on guitar. It appears the second track here ‘Earth’ provides the album’s guiding inspiration. It’s a version of a Joe Henderson / Alice Coltrane piece of 70’s cosmic jazz. Mmmn-hmmn. Now, when a bunch of hairy psych-rock troublemakers get it into their pointy little heads to fool around with jazz it just naturally sets the alarm bells ringing, I hear it too, but hold your nerve, approach with caution, and you’ll be just fine. Their reading is actually reasonably faithful, the first five or so minutes of Vest’s wailing guitar anchored by the steady rhythm section. The chanting “children of the soil rejoice” vocal part is handled by Lower Slaughter’s Sinead Young who brings an unsettling acid edge to it dispelling any tie-dye-earth-mother dribble. You can picture her in a cowl among the standing stones, arms raised, overseeing some ungodly rite/ psych jazz jam. Once the sacrifice is done the full band returns in looser, wilder mood.
Originally ‘Earth’ was one of four tracks on a conceptual jazz album called The Elements, alongside a track a piece for Air, Fire and Water. Melting Hand have opted to just dig into the earth for all five of theirs and calling it the ‘concept’ might be a bit grand. So as much as Henderson may have been an inspiration here, his influence seems harder to spot elsewhere. Jazz hour is over, ‘Terra’ absolutely rips, it’s like the Butthole Surfers in 5th gear, crashing along dementedly, a total psych-punk joy. ‘Gaia’ starts out on a more meditative groove but builds steadily in pace and intensity until a signal cry from Watson’s bass tips them all into heads down freak out mode. The final tune ‘Dirt’ is perhaps the Cheesecake blow out you might have been expecting right back at the start. It pounds gloriously along to begin, cools to a simmer for a while before they crank up the heat and it boils over like the proverbial madwoman’s custard. Messy and delicious."

"Cosmic Cash" effortlessly heaves joy. The low-key vocal hooks and melodies snag you quickly and don’t let go, not unlike mid-period NRBQ but loaded up on youthful longing and hallucinogens rather than RC Cola and Moon Pies.
And then there are the jams, oh the jams! More reined in than recent live action, "Cosmic Cash" delivers sparkling twin leads, barreling keys and bubbling rhythms recalling the Dead’s tightest, most simple studio work, the Allmans’ most radio-friendly moments and the Band’s early 70s output." - Jeff Conklin (WFMU)

Opener “The Marksman” hits the target right away as heavily effected guitars and synthesizers (courtesy of contributor Steve Clements [Six Parts Seven, Royal Bangs]) howl atop a blown-out riff before the band drops the hammer on a swaggering riff met with Scott’s airy vocals.
With its bludgeoning tritone guitar line, “Crystal Garden” finds Relaxer at their most concise, striking a delicate balance between bouncy indie rock, progressive instrumental flourishes, and punishing stoner rock.
Album closer “Window/Path” has it all: an odd-metered progressive boogie riff to rival Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein,” shouted vocals reminiscent of a fire breathing Jim James (My Morning Jacket), thoughtful piano overdubs, heavily processed background vocals, and a coda with a fadeout like the sun setting between the smokestacks and industrial remnants of the band’s Northeast Ohio home. “La chingaaaaa!”
We’ll spare any sensitive unilingual anglophones the meaning; what matters is that Spackler’s dream of a hard rock power trio built on erogenous funkadelic rhythms and a devotion to life’s more sublime pleasures—chief among them: tequila—was now embodied inside a beautifully obscene two-word incantation.
Drummer/vocalist Jay Solyom and guitarist/vocalist Ben Yardley—also a noted professor of theremin—were conscripted shortly after, both veterans of Vancouver’s notoriously dead-end music scene, both beautifully obscene in their own right. La Chinga’s self-titled debut record was rushed out of a makeshift studio in 2013 on nothing but fumes and the liberating force of not giving a shit, landing like a hairball crossed with a stink bomb inside a world of yoga pant commerce, condo developments, and Macbook “musicians.”
This was a revolutionary act—or maybe a devolutionary one, at least.
Meanwhile Spackler was busying pouring all off his demented ‘70s obsessions into wild three-minute homemade music videos, finding the visual language of fuzz itself inside shitty horror films as he furnished the great infernal drive-in of his mind. Somehow, miraculously, this charming brew conspired to make La Chinga the hottest bunch of stoned ape groovers to hot wheel out of the Pacific Northwest since forever.
Freewheelin’ followed in 2016 on Detroit’s Small Stone Records, and so did unhinged tours of Europe, more year-end accolades, festival slots (420 Fest, Sasquatch), and Spackler’s continuing evolution as the Orson Welles of retard-o-tronic found footage scuzz. And then things got serious: in late 2017, La Chinga entered Vancouver’s fabled Warehouse studio with no-less-fabled producer Jamey Koch (DOA, Copyright, Tragically Hip). The result? Beyond the Sky, available September 7th, 2018.
Opening track “Nothin’ That I Can’t Do” sets the agenda for the album’s 45-minutes of sublimely confident freedom rock, sometimes meaty and beaty (“Mama Boogie”, “Death Rider”), sometimes glam-handed (“Killer Wizard”), and occasionally even dirtbag pretty (“Keep on Rollin’). When it all melts into a puddle of phased goo in the final bars of “Warlords”, the listener has been rolled, boogied, and otherwise supernaturally conveyed well beyond the sky, maybe even beyond ridiculous. This is how it feels to get chinga’d, amigos. Surf’s up."
