Fractured kneecaps, donuts, burgers and ice cream. Update on my mother. Traveling Tramps 2024-03-28 | An update on my mothers fall and a visit to Thomas, Donut's and Snack Shop in Panama City Beach! Great burgers, ice cream and donuts! Recently, my mother took a fall here in Tucson Arizona. Thanks so much for all the love, compassion and support that we've been receiving. We love you all! Sadly, she has fractured her Patella. (knee cap bone) This usually does not require surgery, but the recovery time can be 6-12 weeks. At her age, I believe it will be more towards the longer end.She has a splint to immobilize the knee and is walking with a "walker" to keep her weight (mostly) off the knee. After the first few days, the pain has lessened dramatically. She has another follow-up appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon this coming Friday, March 29th. We took an AirBnb here in Tucson until at least April 1st. At that time, it's my hope to head back to Wisconsin to finish the recovery period. We would head directly back home and all our sightseeing plans have been cancelled. It's currently owned by Kenny Mathews who's an absolutely wonderful man who's doing so much to help preserve local history. There's many gorgeous murals in the north side of the building.“With the help of Idaho Art Lab volunteers, Daniel Hidalgo, the main artist, and Kenny Matthews the building owner, we’ve been able to get it to come together. Traveling Tramps 2023-09-23 | @TravelingTrampsToday we're wandering through Route 66 history visiting the Hackberry General Store!The Hackberry General Store is one of three real-life roadside gift shops along Route 66 (the other two being Jack Rabbit Trading Post and Sandhills Curiosity Shop) that inspired the design of the Radiator Springs Curios shop, as seen in Pixar’s Cars franchise. A recreation of it is at Disneyland in California. We also visited the other two. It was however closed for 14 years.Generously described as "ramshackle," Hackberry General Store has enthralled Route 66 pilgrims since Bob Waldmire reopened it in 1992 (Bob was a legendary Route 66er whose father invented the hot-dog-on-a-stick). The store, built in 1934, had been abandoned for 14 years, and Bob kept it looking that way. Several months ago we went though the Black Hills area and visited the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota. We had the opportunity to see a presentation by Brave Star Woman, (Lakota) Starr Chief Eagle (English) of the Lakota Nation.Starr Chief Eagle is an enrolled member of the Sicangu (Rosebud) Lakota Sioux Tribe. She was born with the Lakota name Wichahpi Tokahe (First Star) and was later given the Lakota name Wichahpi Ohitika Winyan (Brave Star Woman) as she entered into adulthood. She grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota including Rapid City and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and started hoop dancing before she could walk. Since then, she has been practicing every year to perfect her techniques and skills. This is an absolutely wonderful Memorial filled with the history of the Indigenous People of America's past and present! As we entered the Memorial I had filmed a rather ugly intro and my opinion of Mr. Custer ( a man who doesn't deserve being called General and he really wasn't other than a temporary Civil War designation) and Crazy Horse. It didn't fit with the Memorial's Celebration of Peace, Hope and Love!Crazy Horse Memorial: crazyhorsememorial.orgThe memorial has turned down Federal Funding multiple times and includes the finest Indigenous Museum (Indian Museum of North America) we've ever had the privilege of visiting. It includes artifacts and history of most North American Nations.We spent a full day and loved it.
