In this vid the rain had just stopped and a dry line was forming. Cars were starting to pick-up the pace as the grip returned. Up ahead are an Exige S260 and Ferrari F430 along with an Audi A4 and track prepared Honda. I ran close with the Exige for a bit then backed off to avoid any potential issues in the braking zones as the pack ahead was getting pretty tight. Lots of fun as always!!

Riding this technical black diamond trail in the Garbanzo Zone to see how challenging—and how tight—it really is.I chose Too Tight to change things up near the end of the day after spending most of my time riding Whistler’s faster flow trails. My Transition Sentinel was still in the shop after developing a leaking fork seal during my previous Whistler trip, so I was riding a rental Transition TR11.Too Tight certainly feels narrow in places, with some tight corners, technical sections and plenty of loose Whistler dust. That said, I found it relatively approachable for a black diamond trail. Whistler Bike Park | B-Line Full Lap | Whistler, BC (2026) Go Yarko Go 2026-06-11 | Whistler Bike Park B-Line progression lap! Riding B-Line Upper and Lower for the first time to see how challenging this iconic Whistler blue flow trail really is.This was my first time riding the park here at Whistler and I was very curious about how challenging the trails might be. B-Line rides fast and flowy, with great berms that allow a lot of grip if you ride them high with speed. Most challenging features can readily be absorbed if you prefer, and a number of offshoots linking to more technical blue trails such as Ninja Cougar and Karate Monkey can be followed to change things up a bit.I found Lower B-Line a bit more fun than upper in the way the corners linked as well as some of the kickers that helped with grabbing air. I was able to quickly build comfort to push on both Lower and Upper with progressive runs.This is a great first Blue Run to try once you've hit your comfort level on Greens and want to progress. Witha tradition dual pass NATO I've often found this watch sits a bit too high off the wrist. Bonus points that the Strap color works well with the tip of the second hand!
Stinger Downhill - Bert Flinn Park - Port Moody, BC Go Yarko Go 2026-04-12 | After a long session mountain biking on Eagle Mountain, I like to finish up with a cool-down through Bert Flinn Park. I was pretty drained at this stage, but still managed to push the pace. Stinger is one of the trails exiting the south end of the park and forks off of Lower Backyard Trail to the right (West). It's more challenging and interesting than LBT, though the latter has an optional exit out Prudent which has some fun jumps. This is some classic Port Moody jank, and a good trail to progress your technical skills on. Drop Practice in Bert Flinn Park Go Yarko Go 2026-03-03 | I've been building up the courage to try larger and more complex drops. Now I'm working on my form (to augment that growing confidence). Here we have a rocky and sloped landing with a bit of a gap as the drop intersects another trail. The lead-up to the drop is narrow single track making it challenging to build much speed. Lower Backyard Trail - Bert Flinn Park - Port Moody, BC Go Yarko Go 2026-01-08 | A pretty spectacular January day for riding! This is one of the benefits of Mountain Biking in BC, that is, when the rain calms down. Lower Backyard Trail is one of the typical exit trails for riders coming down from Bert Flinn Park in Port Moody. It used to extend a fair bit east, but has been cut off by a damaged bridge that's been awaiting repairs for several years now. As you can see here, it's a fairly easy Blue rated trail, perhaps more of a descending XC traverse than a pure downhill ride. A few janky root sections but otherwise pretty smooth sailing. Beautiful in the sun, mystical in the fog. The ascent can get a bit tricky in the wet with rear wheel spin on roots and rocks, but it's low risk with plenty of room to dab a foot.I always find this an enjoyable way to end a session in the park and it's usually devoid of hikers and dog walkers. From here one can branch off to either Prudent or Stinger to reach Ioco Road below, or climb up the Hett Creek trail to rejoin the main section of the park.

Nicoles Trail - Burnaby Mountain - Burnaby, BC Go Yarko Go 2025-10-11 | This was my first mountain bike ride down Nicole's trail on Burnaby Mountain. I watched a couple of videos on Trailforks the day before to get a sense for what I'd encounter. As always, video masks how steep the steep parts are! That said, this was fun and rides more like a blue than a black diamond trail. Crash on Grand Wazoo - Whistler, BC - Lost Lake Trails Go Yarko Go 2025-10-05 | My first day mountain biking in the Lost Lake area of Whistler, BC came with a bit of a surprise and a lesson. I chose this area to ride during a family long-weekend trip because I knew I could get some new laps done in the short spaces of time I could find between family activities. I didn't have any friends to ride with on this trip so figured it was prudent to aim for some "easier" trails. Using Trailforks I saw a lot of greens and blues at Lost Lake and figured it was intermediate friendly for solo riding.It had rained the evening before -for the first time in a while- and as it turns out that can lead to some very slick wooden Technical Trail Features. Part way through this trail I come across someone who found out the hard way what that can lead to. A rider had slid off on the last turn of a ladder bridge and went down, twisting his knee. Luckily he had three friends with him to help him up, and eventually out. I stopped and helped move their bikes across the bridge while they tended to their injured friend.I treated the ladder bridges with a lot more respect after that! Drawing on some lessons learned from a past adventure motorcycling course, I used pedal weighting and focused on bike-body separation more than the bars to navigate winding slick sections of bridge. All that said, Grand Wazoo (and other nearby trails) is a great ride and I'd happily do them again. "Why Johnny Can't Read" is a Blue trail located on the East side of Lost Lake, easily accessed from Whistler Village. While this trail system is mostly blues and greens, there are some challenging trails here for novice and intermediate rider that will test technical ability and climbing prowess. Jo Jo Finns - Bert Flinn Park - Port Moody, BC Go Yarko Go 2025-09-27 | Bert Flinn Park is a great area for beginner and intermediate mountain bike riders, who can enjoy the variety of some simple loops to practice their skills and exercise. It's generally very quiet aside from the occasional hiker and dog. Easily accessible from most of Port Moody by bike (if you don't mind some climbing). Jo Jo Finn is an easy blue for those looking to step up from green routes. Thanks to the TORCA volunteers for building and maintaining these amazing trails! I recently came back to mountain biking after a (multi decade) hiatus, and it shows! I seem to be late initiating turns, probably not looking far enough ahead.
Knox Mountain HillClimb 2014 - King of the Hill - Yarko Petriw Go Yarko Go 2014-05-20 | Yarko Petriw wins the 2014 Knox Mountain HillClimb in the Petrel Data Systems Swift DB1 Formula Ford. His nearest competitor, Michael Marich, was just .367 seconds behind in the same car, taking second place. Yarko's time of 1:51.710 was just .07 seconds behind the FF1600 class record he set back in 2012. With variable weather conditions experienced throughout the weekend, Yarko pushed hard the moment the sun came out to take advantage of the grip the warming road surface afforded. A slight miscalculation in fuel load caused a slight dip in power down the straight between turns 6 and 7, which thankfully only cost a slight bit of time. This was the Petrel Data Team's third time competing at Knox Mountain race, and they look forward to returning once again in 2015 to defend their new title. http://www.petreldata.com
Knox Mountain Hill Climb 2012 - New FF1600 Record set by Yarko Petriw Go Yarko Go 2012-05-21 | Petrel Data's SoloStorm application helps us set another record! Ride along with me as I break the FF1600 record at the 2012 Knox Mountain HillClimb! Terrific weekend driving the Petrel Data Swift DB1. Mike Marich was hot on my heels the entire weekend and we finished only .2sec apart when all was said and won! I'm very proud to finish 2nd overall and 1st in class at a competition with such rich history and fierce competitors. Kudos to the organizers and volunteers that made this event happen once again and worked hard to keep us safe throughout the race
Knox Mountain Hill Climb 2011 - Yarko Petriw FF1600 Record Breaking run Go Yarko Go 2011-05-25 | This was my second run on day two of the amazing 2011 Knox Mountain Hillclimb. The car is a Swift DB1 FF1600 (formula ford). Very proud to finish 1st in class, 3rd overall out of 83 competitors and to break the class record which has stood since the mid 90's. (by over a second!). There's definitely more time in the car (as evidenced by my missed shift in turn 6 for starters) and we look forward to correcting mistakes and trying to best our times again next year.This was my first time competing in this event and we will certainly be back for more. The Knox Mountain Hillclimb is the oldest paved hillclimb in North America having just finished it's 54th year of competition. It takes place every Victoria Day long weekend in Kelowna BC Canada.
Datsun 260Z Autocross Go Yarko Go 2011-02-28 | A friend of mine needed a subject for a school video project. I had just started autocrossing that year in my '74 260Z. Car was still stock back then except for a front sway-bar I think. (This was maybe my 4th or 5th event? Definitely my rookie year!) These shots were taken at the old Boundary Bay facility during a novice series event. This is ca. ~1997 *music was part of the project! haha
Il Palio Di Siena July 2 2010 HD Go Yarko Go 2010-07-24 | Our first time at the Palio! What an amazing event. We were in the Piazza Del Campo from 1pm until after the race and it was incredible the vibe from all the people as the town centre slowly filled up. This race has been run for hundreds of years and is definitely a bucket-list item. Easy to get to from Florence by bus or car. A true italian classic.
