Marina Allen, the Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter, shares a new single/video, 'Swinging Doors' from her upcoming third studio album, 'Eight Pointed Star', out June 7th on Fire Records. Following the “truly divine” (PAPER) lead single 'Red Cloud' , 'Swinging Doors' celebrates entering a new chapter in your life and the excitement when the new chapter feels right – “like the butterflies you get in the line at Six Flags or in the car on a first date. It’s an ode to risk equally as it’s an ode to trust," says Allen.

You can hear contentment radiating from the music, with Chris Cohen’s (Weyes Blood, Le Ren) production offering a full-band affair. The instrumentation is rich and bursting with brightness, as slide guitar drifts over acoustic thrums. With an affection for singers such as The Roches, Karen Dalton, Joanna Newsom and Meredith Monk, Allen’s voice stands up to the canon - never sounding more resolute than it does here.

firerecords 2024-04-05 | Recalibrating her singular journey in the British musical landscape with her most open-hearted, direct and intimate collection of material yet. Love In Constant Spectacle evokes spectacular imagery and distills the artists’ vision in its purest form, elevating her inimitable sound and poetic vision to new heights.

Recapturing the melancholy of her early work whilst propelling it forward, she sketches scenes as we watch new colours, shapes and languages emerge and fill the frame. Love In Constant Spectacle sees her take measured steps towards a vivid, dreamlike record, that offers resolve in the face of life’s inevitability.

The foundations of Weaver’s sound are still evident – lush motorik drums, pulsating bass, custom modded synths and exotic fuzz pedals – but the stream is awash with scrabble piece poetry and Letraset lullabies leading to lush escapism, the free abandon that you’d associate with free jazz and the avant-garde. But, as determined and visionary as Weaver might be, Love In Constant Spectacle wasn’t executed without assistance. Here we find a long mooted unison with Jane’s first ever producer, John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding), who has shared Weaver’s process in the surrounds of Rockfield Studios and Geoff Barrow’s Invada studio.

Love In Constant Spectacle is otherworldly, it is both intimate yet distant, a surrealist interpretation of the foundations that make us human – the stories and landscapes it paints are habitats of their own. A voyage into undisclosed pastures, it’s a heartfelt manifesto from an artist that continues to boundlessly evolve with each chapter in her career.

Following the magnificent ‘Tangled Love’, Ella releases a third slice of perfect pensive pop with a provocative love song set on a deserted beach as the lights fail. ‘All In’ is heavy on the reverb as Ella’s woozy recollections roll out.

It’s a road movie set in Antalya, meandering along the coastline, before the chorus indulges this love, never wanting it to finish. Powered by 50s guitars, it’s a love song for modern times filled with a yearning for the past and how it unfolded.

Ella Raphael is blessed with an amazing voice; a woozy, bluesy, euphoric sound that’s filled with warmth and emotion; it’s engaging, like an old friend telling tales and spinning stories. Brought up on Elvis and Ella Fitzgerald, with her travels adding The Shirelles, Serge Gainsbourg and Karen Dalton (to whom her lilting vocal occasionally recalls).

“It was inspired by many greats such as Joe Meek, Charlie Megira, Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and Julee Cruise; with a type of romantic darkness and melancholy brooding within the melody, knowing that this feeling will come to an end, but almost afraid to say it in words.” Adds Ella. In the video, directed by Ella and Aviya Wyse, “the lamp is the lover with their longing for closeness; it’s a dance of intimacy. The outdoor scenes are a mystical dreamworld, a fantasy of desire, fascination, enticement, foolishness and madness, all of the elements that come together when falling in love.”

Yosa Peit spawns fleshy sonic escapades on her second album ‘Gut Buster’ where she grapples with the destructive force of modern consumption. Peit’s new album is an anti-capitalist statement that synthesizes intimacy and hostility; a surrealist-punk affirmation and a testament to Peit’s singular vision and unique approach.

“I hear people mention the gut all the time, it’s super present in our language, what’s your gut say, you got guts… We forget what a crazy fascinating organ the gut is, bearing a universe. The way we consume food equals how carelessly we consume earth, knowingly and repeatedly. We make changes only when something is right in front of your door.”

‘Gut Buster’ carries all the nutrients we need. Yosa brings us provisions by way of an eclectic creative process, interweaving sound through free experimentation and collaboration. Her unique approach to songwriting and production, which past collaborator Holly Herndon calls “super fresh”, has now garnered a cult following.

Vanishing Twin - The Age Of Immunology (Teal & Pink Editions Trailer)

Establishing the band as innovators in their field, the record was declared “a masterpiece” by The Line Of Best Fit, while The Quietus asserted Vanishing Twin as “one of the most original and exciting acts of the moment”.

This was the group’s first LP for Fire Records, at the time of recording the band’s evolving lineup consisted of songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas, drummer Valentina Magaletti, bassist Susumu Mukai, synth/guitar player Phil MFU and visual artist/film maker Elliott Arndt on flute and percussion.

The album was produced by Lucas in a number of non-standard, non-studio settings. ‘KRK (At Home In Strange Places)’ summons up the spirit of Sun Ra’s 'Lanquidity' and 'Broadcast And The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults Of The Radio' and was simply recorded on an iPhone during a live set which crackled with psychic connectivity on the Croatian island of Krk. The magical Morricone-esque lounge of ‘You Are Not an Island’, the blissed-out Jean-Claude Vannier style arrangement of ‘Invisible World’ and burbling sci fi funk ode to a 1972 cult French animation, ‘Planète Sauvage’, were all recorded in night-time sessions in an abandoned mill in Sudbury.

'The Age Of Immunology' is out 3rd May. Available in LTD edition pressing on None ‘Pink’ and Sine ‘Teal’ vinyl, limited to 500 units each and paired with matching sleeve art.

Accompanied by a fantasy inspired, hazy romantic new music video, it sees a couple transported to another dimension where they are challenged in an otherworldly universe to use their character skills in order to escape.

New single ‘Romantic Worlds’ is an elaborate love song where exuberant synths explore brief encounters and our perceptions of modern romance.

“I wanted to write a really over the top love song, it’s kind of tongue in cheek and about romance and brief encounters with a wonky synth. It’s based on a ‘real life’ date after meeting online, how this changes from generation to generation and how romance is perceived now.”

Accompanied by a fantasy inspired, hazy romantic new music video, it sees a couple transported to another dimension where they are challenged in an otherworldly universe to use their character skills in order to escape.

“Growing up watching the 80s Dungeons and Dragons, I was endlessly frustrated by the number of times the group nearly escaped back to the 'real world', only to be denied by that stupid unicorn. This video presented an opportunity to finally let the characters make their getaway. The 'realm' was one of my first forays into the world of AI. I was really happy with how it interpreted the footage and threw up some weird and wonderful results.” adds Director, Nick Farrimond

I wanted to shoot the video on a Ferris Wheel as it felt like life going full circle. Looking back and accepting everything that happened, not regretting a thing because it all made sense in the end. Realizing that the world is always in motion, no matter what we do."

Conjuring a mysterious brew of folk, psychedelia, world music, and progressive rock, Immaterial Possession are a group from Athens, Georgia whose music takes listeners into a world all their own. Their sound is exotic without being forbidding, created within the framework of pop music while embracing a mindset that falls outside its boundaries, and generating a sense of joy even when it slips into a shadowy mood. Introducing themselves with their self-titled debut album in 2020, and 2023’s 'Mercy of the Crane Folk' fleshed out their ideas with greater skill and assurance.

Immaterial Possession embark on their first UK tour this Spring and to celebrate they return with new music. New single ‘Sugar in a Memory’ takes you through day-dreamy, intimate musings of desperation, longing and dealing with loss. A song written by Madeline during the formative days of the band it carries with it the personal and nostalgic feeling of romance, seasonal change, and the exploration through poetry of nature herself. ‘Sugar in Memory’ is a song of hopefulness that summons the Spring – a time for new beginnings, rebirth and growth.

Peit’s new album is an anti-capitalist statement that synthesizes intimacy and hostility; a surrealist-punk affirmation and a testament to Peit’s singular vision and unique approach.

“I hear people mention the gut all the time, it’s super present in our language, what’s your gut say, you got guts… We forget what a crazy fascinating organ the gut is, bearing a universe. The way we consume food equals how carelessly we consume earth, knowingly and repeatedly. We make changes only when something is right in front of your door.”

‘Gut Buster’ carries all the nutrients we need. Yosa brings us provisions by way of an eclectic creative process, interweaving sound through free experimentation and collaboration. Her unique approach to songwriting and production, which past collaborator Holly Herndon calls “super fresh”, has now garnered a cult following.

Recalibrating her singular journey in the British musical landscape with her most open-hearted, direct and intimate collection of material yet. Love In Constant Spectacle evokes spectacular imagery and distils the artists’ vision in its purest form, elevating her inimitable sound and poetic vision to new heights.

Recapturing the melancholy of her early work whilst propelling it forward, she sketches scenes as we watch new colours, shapes and languages emerge and fill the frame. Love In Constant Spectacle sees her take measured steps towards a vivid, dreamlike record, that offers resolve in the face of life’s inevitability.

The foundations of Weaver’s sound are still evident – lush motorik drums, pulsating bass, custom modded synths and exotic fuzz pedals - but the stream is awash with scrabble piece poetry and Letraset lullabies leading to lush escapism, the free abandon that you’d associate with free jazz and the avant-garde. But, as determined and visionary as Weaver might be, Love In Constant Spectacle wasn’t executed without assistance. Here we find a long mooted unison with Jane’s first ever producer, John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding), who has shared Weaver’s process in the surrounds of Rockfield Studios and Geoff Barrow’s Invada studio.

'Love In Constant Spectacle' is otherworldly, it is both intimate yet distant, a surrealist interpretation of the foundations that make us human – the stories and landscapes it paints are habitats of their own. A voyage into undisclosed pastures, it’s a heartfelt manifesto from an artist that continues to boundlessly evolve with each chapter in her career.

Heady with hooks and unforgettable melodies, gliding on deeply danceable grooves, Air Waves’ innate compassion, concision and uncanny pop continues to shine. Nico Schneit revisits their acclaimed 2022 album ‘The Dance’ by way of a new remix from Canadian, electronic duo Blue Hawaii.

Blue Hawaii’s ‘Not My Boss’ and ‘I Felt Love’ from their 2020 album ‘Under 1 House’ lifted Nico when a relationship came to an end. Inviting Blue Hawaii to rework endearing album opener, ‘The Roof’, the single is transformed into a techno inspired euphoric track that evokes those fun and loose nights out clubbing.

“It’s about feeling good about yourself no matter if you’re alone or with someone else and also learning to walk away when something feels bad.” explains Nico “I think of people dancing to techno alone, in the dark, foggy clubs where nothing matters and there’s no judgement just music to lose yourself to.”

This energetic new collaboration ‘The Roof (Blue Hawaii Upside Down Remix)’ continues to build themes of strength and solidarity explored on 'The Dance’.
