It's the piece that keeps the wheel rolling straight and true while bolted to the suspension, but they do have a service interval. Replacing your wheel bearing is a job you'll eventually need to do as a long-time owner, but it's simple enough to tackle in your driveway. A wheel bearing will tell you when it goes bad. You'll hear a whirring or humming from the affected bearing before feeling it through the wheel at speed. Mercedes E63 AMG Differential Fluid Service DIY(Mercedes W211 E55 AMG, W209 C63 AMG, C219 CLS63 AMG) FCP Euro 2022-10-27 | ►If your Mercedes was fitted from the factory with option 471, it has a limited-slip differential. Like a standard differential, you'll need to change the differential fluid now and then to keep the differential working at full health. Failing to replace the fluid can result in damaged internal components that are very expensive to fix. Replacing the diff fluid is easily done at home with a few tools and the guidance of this video, though you'll need the right fluid. Differential fluid is typically like that of manual transmission fluid but not those made for limited-slip differentials. The clutch packs inside the differential tend to bind when warm and going through tight corners, causing a clunking sound and hopping feeling from the rear end. LSD fluid contains a special additive that makes the clutch plates quieter and softer at those low speeds to keep the mechanical noises and feeling away from the driver. BMW E46 M3 Differential Seal Replacement DIY (BMW E90 M3, E60 M5, E63 M6) FCP Euro 2022-10-22 | ►The differential pinion seal is a notorious leaker in the BMW E46 M3 and on other M-cars with limited slip differentials. A leaking seal, other than causing a mess, will drain your differential of its lubricating oil. Replacing the pinion seal is the only way to fix the leak and ensure the health of your M differential. The original pinion seal was poorly designed, so the engineers over at Corteco have redesigned it to fix all of its shortcomings. Fitting the improved seal will take a decent amount of tools, including a few specialties, but replacement can be done in a DIY setting with enough patience. The AMG M156 V8 is one of the last great normally-aspirated V8s, relying solely on the air it can pull in to make its horsepower. Replacing its dirty air filter and US-spec airbox with clean and freer-flowing pieces will improve performance as well as engine health. Mercedes E63 AMG Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement DIY (Mercedes W211 E55 AMG, W204 C63 AMG) FCP Euro 2022-10-15 | ►Modern engines like the AMG M156 use specific housings to contain the oil filter on the engine. The housings are sealed to the block via rubber gaskets, allowing oil and coolant to pass through the gaps without leaking. However, the gaskets are not the most durable and are known to dry up significantly over time, losing their effectiveness. Replacing the oil filter housing gaskets is the only way to prevent a high-pressure oil leak from the oil filter housing. Replacing the oil filter housing gaskets is an involved job but not one that requires any major skill. Both the oil and coolant system will be exposed and lose some of their fluids, so they'll need to be topped up and bled. Beyond that, you'll need some hand tools, the right parts, and patience. BMW E46 M3 Clutch Replacement DIY (2001-2006 BMW M3) FCP Euro 2022-10-01 | ►The clutch on any car is a critically important piece that can cripple a vehicle's ability to drive instantly. High-performance cars are especially susceptible to clutch wear, thanks to overzealous drivers and their high-strung nature. Replacing the clutch in your BMW E46 M3 is challenging but not impossible in a DIY setting. You'll need a large selection of tools, a good jack or two, an extra pair of hands, and plenty of patience, but we're here to show you that it can be done. The clutch is responsible for transferring engine torque to the transmission and beyond. It's a fibrous material designed to wear slowly and allow smooth transitions from a stop and between gears. Hard launches and aggressive shifting will significantly shorten the clutch disc's life. The other components in the clutch system are the pressure plate and flywheel. They can also be damaged with the clutch disc, though many clutch kits will include one or both items. Both the SMG and manual transmission use a clutch and the same transmission. However, this video won't have the extra steps associated with the SMG transmission removal and installation. Their turbocharged S55 engine is capable of extreme horsepower with some choice upgrades and special care. Upgrading your intercooler's radiator with the aluminum CSF radiator will deliver consistently cooler charge air temperatures. A colder charge air temp means cooler, denser air in the intake for stronger combustion. It'll also help the S55 stay cool while working hard at the track, allowing you to focus on other areas for longevity. Running Out Of Time On Our 190E DTM Tribute - Widebody, Cage, & Throwback Livery | Golden Era Ep.4 FCP Euro 2022-09-08 | ► A race car’s wild flares, wings, and splitters are just as memorable as the sounds they make and how they drive. Our Golden Era Project needed to emulate those late-90s DTM cars as best as possible, and there was no better way to do that than with a period-correct widebody kit replicating the original championship-winning Mercedes 190E. However, a three-month-long ordeal bringing over the body kit from Europe has put the team on the back foot as they scramble to get the 190E 2.0-16 ready for Gridlife Circuit Legends. While waiting for the EVO II body kit to arrive from Germany, the 190E has been down at JPC Fabrication getting its roll cage installed along with various other supports and braces fabbed up for final assembly. We Build A BETTER Mercedes 190e Using BMW, Volvo, & Modern AMG Parts | Golden Era Ep.3 FCP Euro 2022-09-01 | ►A turbocharged engine is all well and good, but no race car is ever complete without a bespoke set of suspension. Decades-old dampers with squishy springs and blown-out bushings mean nothing but sloppy handling, so the Golden Era Project needs a handful of new and custom parts to bring its road control into this decade. Luckily, FCP Euro’s W204 C300 race car has plenty of parts to donate to the cause as the team mocks up the new setup with a “greatest hits” of modern AMG components. Once the suspension design is ironed out, Nate and Danny turn their attention to the rest of the drivetrain. The 716.6 manual transmission fits in the W201 chassis, but a custom driveshaft is needed to bolt it up to the W203 rear end featuring a brand new limited-slip differential. As if that weren’t already enough, the entire car also needs its custom wiring harness designed from the ground up. Squeezing A Turbocharged 2.0L AMG Engine Into A Mercedes 190E - Golden Era Ep.2 FCP Euro 2022-08-25 | ► DTM’s “Golden Era” was filled with shrieking, 10,00RPM+ monsters and over-boosted beasts that regularly pushed the envelope of what was capable from a four-cylinder engine. Thirty years later, AMG has built the M133, a fire-spitting, turbocharged animal that has wiped the floor with everything in its class. The 190E’s original engine was never going to cut it in the DTM tribute, but a modified, modern equivalent of the race engine sure will. With the blue interior and sound deadening gone, the 190E shell is finally ready for some clever engineering. The Merc's original steering, suspension, and braking components just aren’t going to be up to the task, so it’s up to Nate and Danny to figure out where they can update the tired Mercedes with modern AMG parts, including that engine. Slapped into a caged and stripped chassis with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, the M133 should feel right at home, though not without some modifications first.
