This is a power monitoring system that I want to use for learning about our energy consumption habits and improve them. It uses a homemade light sensor and an Arduino uno with a data logging shield. The data can be pulled from the SD-card and visualized in Excel.

What is inside a Woodworking Router? Turns out that at least the main bearing of my AEG MF 1400 Router was worn out. In This video I’ll replace both bearings and learn a couple of things along the way. The AEG MF 1400 KE is basically Identical to the Ridgid R2930 with only minor differences. They likely come out of the same Chinese factory. They Probably just have a slightly modified die for the magnesium body and the top cover. They even come in the same sports bag with identical accessories.

Coming up with a solution for my drill storage problem. I used to keep half of my drills in a plastic bag and the others in an annoying plastic box. Both of those were really slow, frustrating and not very professional solutions. Especially as the drills constantly bumping into each other will eventually get dull. So I came up with a solution that allows for easy access to the drills, visualizes their sizes and forces me to keep everything in order.
In my last video I developed a funnel insert that will make the original Makita dust shroud work really well. But I also wanted to try a more conventional lid insert for the shroud. And basically this works just as well as the funnel. You can even use some packing tape to chieve the same effect.

I really like my little Makita RT0701CX7 router but the dust shroud that Makita offers for their routers simply does not show any sign of function. As is the case with basically all other manufacturers router dust collection. I changed this by adding some simple 3D-Printed parts to completely redesign the airflow and was able to make it catch at least 99% of the dust.

The old fence of my wonderful old Bäuerle Table saw was just too much of a hassle for me.
So I built it a brand new one out of aluminium and plywood tricked-out with modern features like a flip up stop block, a stick on tape measure for easy and accurate cuts and a zero clearance support pad.

This is the predecessor of the Bowden-actuated blast gate system I showed you in last week’s video.
The mechanism is a bit simpler and works more like a classic catch mechanism. The neat thing about it is that it locks solidly into place when the handle is pushed down but then frees itself up as soon as the handle is pulled up. The blast gate on this design is also completely different as the slider pivots around a pin instead of going in a straight line like on a traditional blast gate.

I'm finally setting up a stationary Dust collector with all my woodworking machines permanently connected. This video is about my solution to how to operate the blast gates if they had to be installed out of reach of the machine operator. The solution I came up with is using bowden cables to actuate remote blast gates very comfortably. I show the making of the blast gate itself and the process of making the lever mechanism for opening and closing the blast gate.
Made these four side tables for Christmas 2019.
The table tops of the first two tables were made of stained beech und the later ones out of oak.
The frames were welded from bent pieces of rebar. This gives the frames an interesting look and texture.

Built a new vertical belt sander station with a tilting table. I've had one with a fixed table for a couple of years and it worked great. But now, for some reason, I wanted the tilting table and since I came up with a neat mechanism I built a new one. I built the new one out of scraps that I had floating around in the workshop. It uses a Makita Belt sander. The table can be tilted up and down using circular guide slots. This lets the table tilt around it's front edge which keeps it right at the sand paper when the tables' tilted.

In this video I show you how I made the table top and the table saw fence for my homemade table saw.
The trick is to use your drill press basically like a metal lathe, by chucking up your workpiece in the drill chuck and using the drill press vise like a lathe's tailstock.

I don't get to spend a lot of time in the shop these days so I used this small project for recreation.
It shows me making drawer pulls from some offcut of oak.
This video shows building a adaptor in order to connect steel barrels to my Metabo dust collector. These barrels are much more convenient to use than the issued plastic bags.
I need to cut crosscut some pieces very precisely. To make that possible I made a micro adjustable sto block for my crosscut sled.
It is basically a piece of baltic birch plywood that clamps to the sacrificial fence of my crosscut table using a t-Bolt. The mircro adjustability comes from an allen bolt that screws directly into the birch plywood and serves as a positive stop. The allen bolt can be screwed in and out very precisely, which makes for an extremely accurate cut. If you set it up right.

This is finally part two of my series on how to build my compact table saw.
In this one I explain how the blade tilt mechanism of my homemade table saw works and explain all the steps that it took to implement the trunnion blade tilt mechanism in my table saw.
The trunnions were machined from pieces of baltic birch plywood using a homemade router compass. They then were screwed onto the housing of the table saw and the motor mount. To make the motor mount tilt I installed a piece of threaded rod as a crank shaft that connects to the motor mount using a custom linear nut that I made from two hex nuts and some plywood. The threaded rod connects to the housing of the saw via a pillow bearing that allows for some tilting of crank shaft and contributes to the super smooth operation of the entire mechanism. When the crank shaft is turned the the entire motor unit tilts.
With trunnions in a table saw like this you can use one zero clearance insert for all angles and you can still count on the scale on your fence system even if the blade is tilted.
I've been toying with the idea of making a router bit out of the carbide teeth of old saw blades for some time. Then a couple of weeks ago I dropped my drill with a circle cutter in in onto the top of my new router table. Aside from damaging the new router table that also bent over one of the inserts of the circle cutter. I took that as a chance of recycling those into a T-Slot router bit that I would need anyway to finish the router table.
Undoing the star knobs that attach my crosscut fence to the crosscut table used to be a pain because they would always bind and there is no space for the fingers there anyways. So My solution was to build a pin wrench that engages those knobs. The wrench consists of the main part that was cut out of a piece of sheet metal and the two steel pins that were welded ito place. I even give it knive like handle scales out of oak that were attached using epoxy and threaded rod pins. These hold onto these scales very securely. I even took the time to add a lanyard hole, which I'm not going to use for a lanyard of course but for hanging the wrench on a screw.
The top of this table was made from some leftovers of one of my dining table builds. I milled the individual pieces on the jointer planer combination machine and then glued them together using my homemade bar clamps. After the glue had dried I roughed out the round blank on the band saw and then perfected the round shape by rotating the top around a pin against the spinning blade of my big Bäuerle table saw. For a finish I used counter top oil, which I applied very generously.
The legs were bent from pieces of 10mm rebar and then welded togehter. Underneath the top they are connected by a sort of a Y shaped piece, that also keeps the top from warping.
I also added some stretchers that brace the legs against each other, which makes the entire assembly extremely strong. To keep the table from sinking in soft soils I welded on a disc at the end of each leg.

I used to hand sharpen my chisels on a water stone.

I needed something for supporting long stock on my machines.
I seriously considered just buying some cheapo roller stands but that would be boring. Also I wanted the roller stands to be able to tilt sideways because of my uneven shopfloor. So I decided to make them myself and make them an accessory for my existing sawhorses. They would clamp onto the top beam of the sawhorses using bar clamps. This way the side tilting funktionality wuould be included, so to speak. I made the roller out of a piece of sturdy PVC pipe and the frame from some cheap spruce plywood. This is a very simple project that anyone with the bare minimum of tools can make.

I needed a longer wrench for undoing the arbor nut of the big Bäuerle table saw. This saw has a high starting torque and the big blades apply even more torque to the arbor when cutting, which makes the arbor nut become tighter and tighter. So what I did is to cut a standard double ended spanner into two and weld on a new handle piece to each of the ends. This left me with two much longer spanners which allow me to apply a multiple of the original torque to the arbor nut and to undo it with ease.

I have been wanting to build a box joint jig for woodworking joinery for a long time. In this video I show off my homemade arduino-controlled box joint jig for the table saw.
The structural parts of this jig consist of wood whereas the motion is controlled and executed by cheap electronic components like the ones used for hobby CNC-machines. The brain of this finger joint jig is an arduino nano, which controlles a big stepper motor via a cheap stepper motor driver. The turning motion of the stepper motor is translated ito linear motion using a ball screw. This definitely makes this a screw-advanced box joint jig. The ball screw could be substituted using a piece of threaded rod or allthread for a more economic approach.
This box joint jig features a clever little detail which makes the joints produced come out always perfect.

We had this really small and ugly kitchen table for quite a long time and after I had finished my degree in autuum of 2016 I had a bit of free time to build a couple of things for our place. This table was one of these things. It combines a welded steel frame with a solid oak table top. The short sides of the table top are heavily beveled and just like the trapeze shape legs they give the table somewhat of an elegant look. Welding up the 2mm wall thickness pipe with the stick welder was a challenge, but as some of you might know I really have it with welding even tiny things using my trusty stick machine so that wasn't a real problem. The wood for the top underwent the standard milling routine of jointing, edge jointing, planing and sawing with a few other nifty steps that are not shown in this version of this video. After gluing up the pieces I filled all the defects with a black filler paste, added a bow tie spline to a crack to keep it drom widening, and finished the table top using four coats of counter top oil. At last we assembled the table in our kitchen.

This week I built a set of six long bar clamps. I bought a couple meters of flat steel, cut it into pieces and welded everything back together in the shape of a clamp. Simple! For the spindles I used pieces of M16 threaded rod. Talking about machinery, all you really need for making a set of these clamps is a grinder, a drill and a welder. However, a chop saw is very convenient and of course I just had to show off my new homemade belt grinder.

Just a quick overfiew of my miter saw station. It is a box made from 18 mm spruce plywood. The wings are foldable, so that the space behind the station isn't completely lost. The back panel sits in the same plane as the wing-supports, which makes the entire station incredibly stiff and rigid.
The saw is a Metabo KGS 254 PLUS. It is a good saw but just like with most miter saws, dust collection is not very good.
It bounced a lot in the slow motion clips because I had to operate it quickly. My camera can only record three seconds in slow motion... Also I couldn't brace myself because I had to hit the record button and cut at the same time.
