Bugatti Tourbillon: Technical Details. Full Walkaround. Hear The V16! | Autocar

Autocar 2024-06-20 | This is the Bugatti Tourbillon, the 276mph successor to the Bugatti Chiron.

There will be just 250 of these, priced from £3.2m, making it the most expensive car in series production.

Its engine is a massive 8.3-litre V16, naturally aspirated, and producing 986bhp in its own right. You can hear it in this video.

Rather than turbochargers, it's supplemented by three electric motors, two on the front, one at the rear, supplying an additional 789bhp.

The performance figures are startling. The Bugatti Tourbillon will go from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 2.0sec and 0-124mph (0-200kph) in sub 5.0sec.

The Tourbillon's top-speed is preliminarily reported as 276mph, although Bugatti's CEO Mate Rimac says "let's just say this isn't the maximum...".

BMW M4 CS review - BMW aims for perfect 10 rather than turning dial up to 11

Autocar 2024-06-13 | This is the new BMW M4 CS, a more track-focused variant of the BMW M4 Competition. So we took the chance to film it when we had a brief drive at a race track.

Join our Richard Lane as he tries the car, which has the same 542bhp 3.0-litre straight-six cylinder engine as the rather wild M4 CSL, but with sweeter manners and fewer wayward handling impulses.

It also has a fabulous cabin with a pared-back carbon-finished centre console, mighty bucket seats and a new, Alcantara-clad steering wheel.

There is bespoke tune for the damping, springs, stability control, steering and brakes.

The driving experience is pitched squarely between the M4 Competition and the CSL.

To that end, rather than aiming for 11 on the dial, BMW's M Division has aimed for the perfect 10, a real honey. Only 100 will come to the UK, at £117,100 apiece.

NEW Suzuki Swift vs Renault Clio

Autocar 2024-05-15 | Is the small car dead? Some say it's so but tell that to the new Suzuki Swift or Renault Clio, two cars still flying the flag for small motors in the face of increasingly expensive emissions and safety regulations, making them less and less profitable.

To the all-new Swift first, then. This city car/supermini joins us in Mild Hybrid Ultra form which costs £19,799.

It has a 3 cylinder, 1197cc petrol engine, plus a 12V starter-generator. It makes 81bhp at 5700rpm, has a 5-spd manual gearbox, weighs 949kg and will do 0-62mph in 12.5sec. Its economy is 64.2mpg and it emits 99g/km of CO2.

Then there's our supermini class favourite, the latest Renault Clio. This one is a 0.9 TCe Evolution which costs £17,995, has a 3 cyl, 999cc, turbocharged, petrol engine making 89bhp at 5000rpm, driving through a six-speed manual gearbox, which is good for 0-62mph in 12.2sec. It weighs 1103kg, will return 54.3mpg and emits 118g/km of CO2.

Aston Martin Vantage full in-depth review and specs, on track and road | Autocar

Autocar 2024-05-12 | With 656bhp rather than the 503bhp of its predecessor, the latest Aston Martin Vantage has moved on to a new performance plane.

It was a serious sports car before but the comprehensive overhaul has, as with the DB12 we were so impressed by recently, significantly shifted its capabilities. Its price too: this is a £165,000 before options.

Along with 656bhp at 6000rpm it makes 590lb ft at 2000-5000rpm. It drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and weighs (dry) 1605kg.

Performance is strong, with a 0-62mph time of 3.4sec and a top speed of 202mph. It'll return 23.3mpg and emits 274g/km of CO2.

Ferrari SF90 XX Spider | Full Review | Autocar

Autocar 2024-05-10 | This is the Ferrari SF90 XX. The SF90, perhaps the least-loved of modern Ferraris, needed a little shove to stand in the limelight, so Ferrari’s answer has been to go harder and use a formerly very exclusive programme name.
The Ferrari SF90 XX is the first XX car to be road legal. It wasn't in the original production plan for the SF90, which tells you something about its gestation.

It’s a decade since Ferrari’s last extra-special-series XX car, the La Ferrari-based FXX-K, was introduced. It was thought that Maranello had so far either made fewer than a hundred XX-branded cars in total. There’ll be nearly 1400 SF90 XXs, divided between coupes and convertibles.

It’s got some very special design features and specification upgrades: it makes 1016bhp at 7900rpm, can do 0-62mph in 2.3sec and has a 199mph top speed. Lotus Eletre vs Audi SQ8 E-tron | Luxury £100k electric SUV shootout

Autocar 2024-05-01 | Lotus, famous for making great small cars, has made a great big one.

The new Lotus Eletre SUV is a luxury electric SUV that's nothing like any Lotus that has come before it.

In this middle-range form the Lotus Eletre S costs £105,805. It has 603bhp, 524lb ft, a kerbweight of 2540kg, a 0-62mph time of 4.5sec and a top speed of 160mph. It has a 108kWh battery for a range of 304-329 miles at 2.4-2.6mpkWh.

There are plenty of rivals in this sphere but we've picked the Audi SQ8 E-tron Sportback. It's £101,380, has 497bhp, weighs 2650kg, does 0-62 in 4.5sec, and has a 130mph top speed. It has a 106kWh battery for a range of 271-278 miles at 2.3mpkWh.

Toyota Land Cruiser in-depth review .:. Full tech details, on- and off-road first drive

Autocar 2024-04-06 | The Toyota Land Cruiser helped build the Japanese brand’s reputation for solid engineering, and although it has become a bit of a niche thing in Europe, elsewhere it’s still massive.

You can take that literally: in some markets, Land Cruiser is its own model range, including the 4.6-metre-long Land Cruiser 300 Series and the ultra-old-school Land Cruiser 70 Series. That comes with a 4.5-litre V8 diesel and a manual ’box.

In the UK, we get just the 250 Series, also known as Prado, and it’s entering a new generation for 2024. It’s not electric, it’s not even a hybrid (not in Britain, anyway) and the mechanical specification hasn’t radically altered from the old one.

But although the new J250 Land Cruiser isn’t a radical departure from the J150 of before, there’s still plenty to talk about.

Electromod classic Range Rovers: 650bhp EV and 730bhp PHEV JIA Chieftan. How mad? HOW MUCH?

They're both based on classic Range Rovers but they are restorations with a huge twist. The one on the left is a pure electric conversion, with 650bhp. The one on the right is a plug-in electric hybrid, with no less than 730bhp!

Abarth 500E: the return of the hot hatchback? EV rivals rated

Autocar 2024-03-01 | The petrol-powered hot hatchback is an endangered species.

Once, if a manufacturer wanted to make an affordable sporting car, it put a big engine in its family hatchback and stiffened up the suspension.

Ever tightening emissions and fuel consumption limits means that's no longer an option. You can't buy a Ford Fiesta ST, any Peugeot GTI, a Renaultsport Clio or Megane, and even since filming this video Hyundai has stopped production of the i20N and i30N.

And there hasn't been an EV hot hatch to take up the mantle ... until now?

New 2024 Range Rover Sport SV - 626bhp AND mega off-road capability

Autocar 2024-02-16 | The new Range Rover Sport SV is a wild car. It has possibly the broadest range of capabilities of any car on sale. Not only does it have all of the off-road ability that you'd expect from a Range Rover, it's also such a carbon-fibre wheeled, carbon-ceramic braked 626bhp V8-powered monster that Range Rover thinks it can hack it on a race circuit.

So we tried it on both - off-road, on race track, and of course on the road too, which will be the Range Rover Sport SV's more natural habitat.

This test is of the launch version of the car, the Edition 1, a limited-run variant that costs £185,360 before options, and there are a few of those.

New 2024 Porsche Taycan revealed: full tech details AND prototype drive review

Autocar 2024-02-07 | This is the new Porsche Taycan, which has received an extensive upgrade to cement its position as one of the fastest, longest-range and best-handling EVs on sale.

Due on sale in the spring, the new Taycan “excels over its predecessor in every discipline”, according to Porsche, which claims huge improvements in range, acceleration, charging speed, equipment and dynamics.

The Taycan can be specified with a single rear motor from £86,500 or a choice of three twin-motor powertrains: 4S (£95,900), Turbo (£134,100) and Turbo S (£161,400).

While the similarly sized, combustion-powered Panamera dropped its estate body option as it moved into its third generation recently, the Taycan keeps three body variants.

The longest range – 422 miles on the WLTP combined cycle – is claimed by the rear driven, single-motor Taycan equipped with the optional Performance Battery Plus, which at 105kWh is a chunky 12kWh bigger than before.

The Taycan can now top up at speeds of 320kW – 50kW quicker than before – at suitable chargers. In addition, the battery’s fast-charging window has been extended so that it can now accept speeds of more than 300kW for up to five minutes.

Autocar 2024-01-12 | The Toyota GR Yaris has been a smash hit for Toyota. It needed to make 25,000 cars with this body style to homologate it for rallying but has already made 32,000 and counting. Hence there is budget, and opportunity, for a facelift.

Autocar Heroes: Maturo restomod and original Lancia Delta Integrale meet

Autocar 2023-12-15 | Ah, the Lancia Delta Integrale: a rally homologation special and all-weather supercar that is a hero to many of us of a certain age.

We've brought two of them together: first, an original car owned by Autocar's own deputy road test editor Richard Lane. It's a 1990 model with a few personal tweaks that make the car very special to Richard.

The second is a restomod by Maturo cars of the Netherlands. Maturo involves itself heavily in rallying and wanted to make the optimum Integrale for the road. And this is it. They do loads of work to the shell and the body and the engine and the suspension and the brakes and etc etc etc: it's massively re-engineered but fundamentally is still an Integrale.

Join Matt Prior and Richard Lane as they drive the two cars back-to-back and get under the skin of them both.
