Some kind of much needed updates + Laeken Greenhouse mini vlog Estelle Van de Velde 2024-05-02 | I’m finally taking the time to record a video in which I’m giving some kind of updates. I’ve been struggling with finding the time to do it, between my job search, my portfolio redesign, the course I’m taking on Design Thinking, and my more private life. Recently, my husband and I took a day off to visit the Royal Greenhouse of Laeken in Brussels, Belgium. This was the perfect time to film a little something I’d actually enjoy watching, and you too I hope.On the design side, I realised that my portfolio sucks because it’s the same as everyone else’s. When you complete a bootcamp, you’ve done the same tasks as your classmates. And I want to stand out to be able to land a design job, sounds normal. I’ve already applied to a few junior jobs, which are a bit difficult to dig out. I had my heart broken by companies who are inviting me to do design tests but move forward with other candidates by sending me very typical answers with no feedback. The job market isn’t the easiest but I’m trying not to go back to digital marketing and keep pushing.On the author's side, I’ve got no time to spare. Haven’t done any writing for ages, even though my goal is to release a book this year. The first draft is completed though, I simply need to find the headspace to edit and rewrite it, which will probably be possible once I land a first design job. I’m also keeping up with querying my middle grade novel, even though I only receive negative answers from agents. One good news though, my book – The Londoners – made it to a bookshop. I’ve seen my little one on the shelf with other books, and it’s been sold twice already at the time of recording this video.But yeah, I’m struggling with YouTube lately. Not that I don’t want to release videos, but either I’m not happy with my script, or I’m not happy with the recording. I also figure I’m kind of regretting leaving authortube, because then I knew what kind of videos I could release… I guess I’m questioning myself on who I want to be on this platform. Of course, I want to release design videos, but also author videos and other types of videos. Youtube wants to label me though, and I get it. But I also want to label myself Estelle tube, you know.Anyway, there you go for the updates. No, I’m not dead. I did what?? | Q3 goals for 2023 | AuthorTube Estelle Van de Velde 2023-07-04 | Let’s review the goals from the previous quarter.I set up three goals in April:- Move on to the alpha reader stage with my nonfiction on pregnancy and motherhood.- Prepare the presentations for the three talks I was about to give. - And set up the preorders for SEO for authors. Apparently I did manage to do a ton last quarter, like editing my book and preparing it for release, while also starting a web design bootcamp in May and having little to no time for my author business after that. Needless to say it was quite intense, and I felt overwhelmed more than once.So I did prepare the talks I was booked for, and I gave two of them. The third one is the Virtual Writing Conference on July 30th, and it’s already prepared. Good news is I’ve been booked for a fourth conference in September. I’m really happy people find me through networking and word of mouth. That’s two very powerful channels here.SEO for Authors’ preorders are live officially and I’m about to release the book on July 25th. Not panicking at all… The only thing I did not manage was to move on to the alpha stage with my nonfiction on pregnancy and motherhood. But that was to be expected considering the ton of things I had to juggle. And I actually did mention in my previous goals video that this one was likely to fail. I knew it already.So let’s have a look at those goals for this quarter.- Release SEO for Authors. I mean, it’s in a few days. This one will be easily reachable.- Take some time off for myself. That means a bit more livestreams. That also means a well rested Estelle. It will be after 8pm Belgium time, because I don’t want to miss out on time with my son. But after that, I’m all yours for one evening per week.
