Rachmaninoffs Prelude in E flat Minor warm up before showtime! Jeffrey Biegel 2024-02-03 | The sound in the concert hall is much warmer, and there are so many more colors and dynamics than what the cellphone can reflect. The longer I live with this piece, it becomes less and less an etude, or study for the Right Hand, and more about the beautiful writing in the Left Hand. I used to play it much faster, but so much music and beauty is lost at such fast speeds. The tonality of E flat Minor already gives us an idea of the mood. It can certainly be played faster, but the spacing between the notes in the Left Hand are so exotic and beautiful, and can get lost in speed.

This etude is, for me, a study in perpetual motion, but room to make music too. Yes, I can play it faster, which exists in a past YouTube video, but I think it works well slightly slower as well. Nobody should feel the need to play it so fast to make it sound good
